I don’t want to guess whether I’m in rank 1 range or not, why not just give us live cutoffs like we had in Legion and before? Was there anything wrong with it?
Was it wrong letting players know what they’re playing for, and if they will get a reward from it?
I just casually play 3v3 no voice but it’d still be nice to know if it’s worth trying for Rank 1 and I really don’t see any downside of a live-cutoff system that appeared either on the official ladder or on the arenamate.net page.
Uuuhm that only became a thing at the end of Legion. What was it, the end of fierce? Dominant? Or did they implement it back in demonic? Anyways, there haven’t been any “live” cutoffs before that. Only 3rd party sources tracked it with incomplete sources from the website’s API, because the API has never shown all of the factors that calculates the cutoffs.
1st: arenamate.net has always been a 3rd party actor. It has no connection to Blizzard whatsoever, and never had.
2nd: Just because you don’t see a downside, it doesn’t mean there isn’t one. Technically speaking, there are downsides. It’d fall on deaf ears if I’d explain the possible downsides, so I won’t bother. But the upsides to implementing it is obvious, and of course the players wants to know, even those not in range of it because then it’d be possible to know the size of the ladder and provide better basis for complaints instead of having this vague image quickly forgotten of how many players actually did participate in a season. It’s called influencing the customers the way the company wants people to act and to focus on. (If you haven’t noticed, not providing the full details has provided what’s called ‘plausible deniability’.)
Personally speaking, I’m all for showing cutoffs. Don’t get that part wrong. But just because I’m for it, it doesn’t mean there aren’t possible downsides.
Anyways, easy reasoning dictates either the coding of it or the effects of showing the “live” cutoffs near the end of Legion did cause problems, so they likely scrapped it for one of these two reasons. (The “live” cutoffs on the leaderboards of the wow website didn’t exactly update in real-time, it was more like once a week or something like that.)
Yes, of course… The multi-billion dollar company group developing games day in and day out, and does live service maintenance, doesn’t implement a function because of “laziness”. Kappa
Thing is, manipulating customers is part of the norm for companies. Some does it better than others. Educated and experienced telemarketers are really good at it (to everyone’s dismay though). But the point is, laziness has nothing to do with it for companies on that level.
I mean there are several factors that indicate that the company has become much more lazy than they used to be. Most likely due to cutting jobs and costs.
I get your argument with manipulating customers but if their strategies actually worked the game would still have players and not be in the all time worst in terms of the game itself and playerbase.
As much as I agree I must admit it’s funny this is coming from a 25x nonglad just because the game has been simplified to a new level of stupor and his class is overpowered.
As for showing cutoffs, it promotes camping too much. Last season it was basically impossible to get to r1 rating after the december patch because nobody played anymore. I remember helping some friends try and get gladiator in season 7 on the last day since they were like 2400 (cutoff was 2573). To go from 2500 to 2530, we literally met the same team 5x in a row and NOTHING else, giving around 6-7 rating a game. They logged over and whispered one of my friends that they’d keep queueing if he paid. He refused, we got a 40 minute queue, met a team that gave 1 rating and gave up.
Maybe because I’ve never tried for gladiator before and this is my second 3v3 season as druid? You can tell from my achievements that I’ve barely touched 3v3 before BfA (no titles etc.)
Well camping has always been there, tbh the whole system would need an overhaul because the only relevant point of a season to push for titles is the end. My suggestion would be making the ranks % based again, therefore you enter the gladiator rank at 0.5% of the players and then you have to do X wins to get the title. Same would go for r1 etc.
This part reminds me of all the randoms that was asking for a copy of LoL’s ranking system with instant gratification, back during Legion. Then Blizzard announced that they’ll actually use LoL’s ranking system in BfA, and those randoms were overjoyed. (Blizzard even announced it doing literal comparisons to LoL’s system in the announcement itself.)
The nay-sayers kept saying it’d dilute the reward scheme. Now look at where we are. I just find it a tad ironic.
You seem to be conflating laziness with corporate metrics like cost and earning projections. xD
Btw check out https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-02-08/activision-is-said-to-plan-job-cuts-as-sales-of-key-games-stall so don’t expect much for the future, considering what has happened already since Blizzcon (been one heck of a rollercoaster).
(It’s not just Activision btw, it’s Blizzard too. They’re part of the same corporate group, after all.)
plsss stop spamming topics about r1 cutoffs when it’s 2 weeks into the season, rdruids will eventually get fixed and you’ll finish rank 700 anyway. even if they don’t miraculously get fixed, everyone will actually start pushing at some point. literally anyone can get top 50/100 first few weeks of season, it’s just about queuing more than everyone else, not being better
Funny how people that haven’t touched the game since 8.0 try to make my points invalid just because my class got buffed recently.
As it would change anything if I posted this suggestion at the end of a season or now. The current system is obviously not working well based on what we’ve seen last season. Glad was completely free and Rank 1 was given to 90% of those that played fotm at the start of the season and some people that still managed to push shortly before the season ended.
They could atleast give us live title cutoffs or introduce a better system for it
I’m not saying your idea is bad, it’s a decent idea. I’m just saying that you were nowhere to be seen posting this idea at the end of last season when rank 1 cutoffs were irrelevant to you, and that being rank 40 ladder two weeks into a season means literally nothing as 90% of players who normally take up r1 slots haven’t played enough to catch their cr up to their mmr, or just don’t care about tryharding and play random stuff for fun after tryharding the end of last season
Gladiator should go back to being 0.5% and there should be an in-game tracker to see what % you are at currently (next to where you can see your rank if you’re 2.4k+). You should also be able to get it after winning 50 games above 0.5% instead of having to wait for the end of the season.
Additionally, the rating required to start counting “gladiator wins” has to be the highest of 2400 and 0.5% so you can’t cheese gladiator in the first two days of the season when 0.5% is literally 1300 rating.
Lastly, no - gladiator should not be re-added to 2s.
