[Guide] Metals and Minerals

So not specifically a mineral thing, but seeing as the target demographic seems to be dwarven smiths, I’ll offer you this nugget of related lore:

According to Warcraft Legends: Vol. 1 and the Ashbringer comics, it’s said that master dwarf smiths can impart their very emotions into their craft, creating the weapons of legend that they’re famed for. Magni imparted his rage, fury, and desire for vengeance after he heard of Muradin’s alleged death in Northrend to create the Ashbringer and Nori Blackfinger imparted his sadness, love, and fury for the loss of his son to create a sword that could cleave through an anvil in a single strike, and sunder armour with every strike.

A question to my readers. What projects have you used this resource as a guide for in RP? I know it’s popular among smithers to the point I’ve had people link it back to me as a source, not knowing I wrote the guide.

I’m interested to hear about your RP projects!

Oh shoot, erh - I have and keep using this resource here for my crafting ic. As I run and operate a contract based service for creation of stuff, I sometimes need to remind myself about what and how things work. ( got a poster gif it but can’t link, not ranked enough here haha) So all my products - have had the privilege to use this resource! :volcano::fire::hammer_and_pick:

Recently though I held a lecture in northrend, at the tourney. Was less to do with metallurgy and the materials and more to do with post-smith treatments :volcano::beers:

I only hope it’s quality work, always fun if it feels immersive :fire::volcano:

God knows how many times I’ve had to cite this to Duskwood DKs. It’s the best.

Bump to not let this one get forgotten!

I’m still waiting for obsidian to be added to the list.

Yes, I will die on this hill.

@Telaryn!! Add it in already!

The reason why I didn’t add Obsidian is because there’s no quest texts to draw any official conclusions from. All you have are 4 pieces of equipment from Vanilla made using Obsidian which had anti-magic set effects.

I added it to the guide due to your popular demand with a disclaimer that this isn’t confirmed lore. Draw conclusions from any speculation at your own discretion.

Also according to the blacksmithing tooltip on Folded Obsidium, it’s a somewhat brittle metal but CAN be forged into extremely durable armour and weapons.

Digging this up again since it was the first thing I saw when opening this thread.
One somewhat interesting thing about shadowlands ores is that stone isn’t found naturally in Ardenweald, and Phaedrum ore somehow grows inside what looks like tree roots.
And all the Laestrite deposite there are not canon I guess.

This guide helped me to settle a little head cannon within my guild.

What material are Stormhammers made from?

I’ve never been able to find a Blizzard source but I settled on Thorium. Seemed like a sound enough answer, for it’s weight and durability. The latter especially when it’s enchanted!

So thanks again!
