Homophobia in rp needs to cease

A lot of people who join this server or return are thrown into this us vs them struggle of rumours and hearsay, heck there’s quite a lot of PCU people who were told it was a bad place, and that the people in it should be avoided, before finding out this wasn’t the case and its actually one of the most friendly communities on AD.

There’s a lot of strength in coming out and admitting fault, and that can only be respected. I don’t think anyone will choose to blacklist you, and I think people would be happy to roleplay with you.

It’s never a good thing to paint an entire community with a single brush stroke because you don’t like a few people within it.

I have no feelings for the PCU either way, they provide a great deal of RP for the server, but I just never find the time to take part in it, much to my own sadness, but I also know they’ll uphold the right rules for the server, so they’re all kings too.

After a bit of a chat, I will heavily moderate my take on the PCU.
There are certain members who I will absolutely not tolerate nor interact with, but I will not hold the community responsible for them.

But as a whole, I am reconsidering my overall opinion both on the PCU and Perroy.
I also wish to put forth an apology to Perroy for certain notions I have had about him, ideas that turned out to be a fluke of memory and likely reinforced by hearsay.

Time for me to be a hypocrite and add to the PCU talk to the thread despite trying to divert it earlier. I think it’s probably a little too late to change the course of this thread at this stage anyway and probably was back when I posted before.

Anyway, the thing I will say about the PCU that I think needs to be understood is the sheer scale and prominence of it is honestly quite intimidating. Even now, knowing that the members of the guilds aren’t homophobic - at least not currently and at least not publicly - I still feel a little bit spooked about saying anything bad simply because of how many people I could potentially wind up offending, and while yeah it shouldn’t matter that much, anxiety is a bugger and’ll make you catastrophise everything to a grotesque and melodramatic standpoint that somebody not liking one thing you say = somebody wishing to drive you out of house and home and barbeque your firstborn child.

Insecurities aside though, I do still have my odd hangup and grumble. I’m not a big fan of the whole ‘marketing’ of the PCU, and at points I’ve found some of the recruitment to be a little forceful for my likings, and I don’t think I’m necessarily alone in that opinion or that it’s an inherently problematic opinion to have, but overall? I think you guys have been miscategorized by many.

Now I will see you all on COAD when Annlively, Sainur, Zebanji and myself are portrayed as actors and plants who’s only purpose posting on the forums is to fake credibility for the PCU because nobody outside those guilds could ever come to these conclusions by ourselves.

Who do I talk to about getting paid for the acting job?

I applied for an internship at my local theatre now that the lockdown’s easing down (public locations like theatres were among the last ones to open) for a production thing involving set design and writing assistance.

Gonna write a comedy inspired by the many clowns involved with COAD and these past two threads

Yeah homophobia in rp is boring and not cool. I also feel bad for not being able to comit myself to a PCU guild properly, life is way to busy. Big sorry to Sokronal and Husseth for it. Maybe one day :frowning:

On another note I really would implore anyone who has gripes with the PCU to just reach out and talk with Perroy, he’s just a guy who enjoys RP, not the antichrist of argent dawn

No that’s you with your missing e. (and the lack of post editing)

Or some claim that you were all somehow brainwashed, or they’ll say you were forced to type out those posts under great duress and threat to yourselves.

Either way, let’s all look forward to your feature!

Speaking of confirming things in WoW, I just noticed this interview from Eurogamer RE the trans character in Shadowlands: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-07-09-world-of-warcraft-will-drop-the-fee-for-changing-gender-in-shadowlands

The relevant quote here:

“Aspirants are able to choose a physical form that represents their true self. Pelagos, who presented as a woman in his mortal life, chose to be a man in the Shadowlands.”

It’s the first time I can remember Blizzard publicly talking about a trans character, but according to John Hight, this doesn’t necessarily mean Pelagos is the first in the game.

“WoW is a game that doesn’t try to emphasise sexual relationships so in that regard, we don’t necessarily tell that part of the story other than to hint around it,” he said. "But we certainly have characters [that have] - or we’ve always thought of characters as having - different gender identities in the game.

“We don’t try to put a big focus on it and make it a big deal, we just try to make the game feel comfortable, friendly and approachable for everybody in the game, regardless of where they come from.”

Does this mean there were already trans characters in the game? “Knowing some of our designers and having conversations with them, I’m sure that was the intent,” Hight said. “But we like to keep things subtle.”

Unfortunately he wasn’t able to tell me any of the characters’ names.

I will call BS on this to some degree. Granted it’s good to have confirmation that Pelagos is not the first nor only canonical trans character within Warctaft, but given the inability to give names out, and the claim that it’s done “subtley”, I do feel that Blizzard have never actually shown a trans character in-game before.

Maybe I’m being a little too harsh towards John Hight’s comments, but it does feel like a bit of a cop-out explanation.

Then again, I doubt we’d ever hear Blizzard say “We didn’t feel it appropriate to implement a trans character into WoW” so maybe this is the best we get on that front.

You anarchist fetishist you!

Oh Christ, do the people who write COAD actually believe the bile they put out?

one day they’ll figure out my identity.

It’s more about them not focusing on sexuality too much regardless, since it’s not important. And not because it doesn’t matter, but because it is normalized in-universe.

I think you might be. Subtlety is good.

Exactly.
