I meant in terms of language. There is conflict definatly around it, and it has been essentially since the tagline “Orcs vs Humans”.
But they still leave it at things like that, or if more heavily, calling the enemy filth, stinky, or that they need to be killed.
But there isnt for example, an extensivly raciology studies about how the diffrent species are in varying degrees lower intelligence etc, or more gutpunching insults.
Even talks about how the Horde/forsaken/Alliance etc needs to be wiped out, is left at a fairly simplistic talk/wording. Not an overt lengthy detail about the extermination etc.
Yes, but this bit of lore isn’t the sole possible explanation - the connection of magical knowledge and its dangers alone are a sufficient reason: the idea that arcane can lead to dangerous results that will culminate into a massive disaster: “arcane magic will burn the untrained”. Or political reasons (as I speculated above): some priests of the holy light might have temporal interests other than ascetic ones, and the mages might be potential rivals that use a form magic which doesn’t promote the virtues of the Light. Or again, regardless of the magical chart, there is a strong correlation among those who study arcane and those who will become warlocks and necromancers. There are atleast three explanations that still work regardless of the lore around magic.
The absence of the Church of the Holy Light in Dalaran and its surroundings.
But how do they contradict the short stories? They just don’t - there are religions that preach something but still have elements that contradict such words of tolerance. Preaching tolerance and compassion doesn’t invalidate the fact that they still share prejudice. The fact that this form of morality has to be preached, if anything, is proof that tolerance and compassion has to be learned (therefore, lack of tolerance and compassion can still be a thing).
Not really. Paladins have always been depicted as being honorable in combat, and that usually encompasses the idea of respecting your enemy. That’s not a new thing.
Because not everyone adheres one hundred percent to their theoretical philosophy. Despite having good principles they can also have negative, regressive elements.
It’s not that all paladins must become perfect lawful good boy-scouts because you’ve read that respect is one of the virtues they preach.
Because there can be multiple voices in the same order? There can be people with prejudice and people who don’t have it and still work together in the same Church?
These are two different things - I already mentioned this form of prejudice is likely gone now as strong changes transformed the society of old. The Church and the wizards have likely lost a huge amount of influence these days and the king has allowed several disliked classes (warlocks, death knights, demon hunters) into the kingdom.
They are.
You argue that the catholic church hasn’t criticized today’s rationality / modern values?
It’s really a bit of a non-point, really. Modera confirms the prejudice and mentions conflicts between mages and priests. The Paladin in day of the dragon reinforces the idea, that he is a bad person and a Paladin just reinforces the idea that the Church is far from perfect and has several flaws when it comes to its morals (kinda my point).
Wow how this turned out to be a debate of a thread.
I think if people would simply stay in “WoW focused rp” things like this wouldn’t even happen unless you have to put it into the extreme.
Since WoW has to follow his own rules too in someway.
I also belong in that LBTQ+ stuff when it comes to Description but I don’t see myself like I just joined a Club. Certainly didn’t do it’s just what People thought off as description.
Though I don’t belong to this kind of group I don’t mind them as long as they won’t force it upon me.
I guess it’s too easy for some fellows to missuse the RP for their hate.
Like telling a horrible not funny joke and then just wish it away with a unhearthful “soory” and scrub it off.
It should be clear for the involved that it’s only RP and even then don’t make it too extreme. Since you usually have others watching and eventually joining or reporting your RP.
There are lines which shouldn’t be crossed in certain Therms.
Since LBTQ+ are also a highly risk of suicid and high depressions because of many society reasons.
A simple “OK” Thumbs Up, fixing the way to address or speaking to them and everything is fine. Ah… and in some cases also your behaviour.
I think Forum User Emberblast means situations where people will just take posts word for word from political forums and replace 1 word with “void elf” and then copy paste that into /yell which I agree is not very good story telling
It’s good to RP hating void elves / calling dark iron troghead slimeballs or w/e but if you also begin yelling about “making stormwind great again” or w/e then that is instantly a lower order of roleplay
Maybe they didn’t mean that though but that’s what I think anyway please like my post if you agree and leave your comment below
This fits in quite well with what I meant, along with my explaination above as well! In regards to the whole thing with void elves in particular, I think it was interesting/nice rp when people where showcasing obvious distrust and fear, and the big Visions of N’zoth patch rally of you guys hosted for the server was also well done and inline with the old god content as well.
But then you had other some people doing exactly the Trump meme things or talking like they were K-K-K members wanting to do some “good ol’ lynchings” with some really 4chan/historical undertones that rubbed me the wrong way.
And the whole “Lumen Vult” yells memes. But unironically. And in roleplay.
I don’t think it’s a strong enough parallel of modern rationality to Dalaran and arcane magic - there is that air of rationality and scientific method around it, yeah, but arcane magic is ancient and in no way either new or intruding on church’s turf.
Church of the Holy Light is parallel to the catholic church in aesthetics only, and even then vaguely. They’re not imported meme crusaders, and not a political player with ulterior motives. They’re a high fantasy standard Good Church, if you want Bad Church, there’s Scarlets.
p.s.: I dance from what is present in game and common warcraft lore, I haven’t read the novels because my attention span doesn’t allow for hundreds of pages of fantasy fiction so if I’m wrong here I regret nothing
From my own language+some basic understanding of german & some other languages in that same tree(like dutch), it looks/sounds like it basically would mean “everything is busted/broken”
Honestly, it’s low effort even for them. Even that shoddily shamble of a mess they did against the Assemblage by placing a bunch of their own alts on another server atop/inside of eachother in a gigantic lump, had more effort to it.
