Having played private servers for many years I must say I did not expect this boosting meta in Classic. I kinda expected the bots, but not this boosting thing.
Why isn’t Blizzard doing anything about it?
It ruins the leveling experience and are promoting RMT. I think it’s totally reasonable to make minor tweaks to broken systems that is being exploited in an unintended and unique way in Classic that have a large impact on the game experience for players not even participating in that activity.
The problem isn’t the boosting pre se, it’s that fact that these boosters usually exploit pathing and that it’s 4-5 times faster than to do quests, grind mobs or do the dungeons as intended, aka playing the game.
The rules are irrelevant in this context. I’m talking about united exploits that have a game breaking result unique for Classic that could easily be tweaked.
But it is actually against the rules if you read how they define a cheat: " cheats; i.e. methods not expressly authorized by Blizzard, influencing and/or facilitating the gameplay, including exploits of any in-game bugs, and thereby granting you and/or any other user an advantage over other players not using such methods;" And I’m talking about resetting mobs and exploiting pathing in this context not the boosting per se. But as I said, this is not a topic about the rules. It’s an topic about a broken XP system that could easily be tweaked.
This is clearly not intended. And Blizzard have opened that door to fix unintended exploits, like for example the backdoors in AV that was closed after Blizzard deemed them to be unintended, after 14 years.
The main issue is that this affect people NOT abusing the system.
If They fix the mob pathing nothing will change at all skilled mages can do CoC kite them outside of leeway without any pathing required. Unskilled mages will simply bring a 2nd mage and they can blizzard kite just as they can two man strathome and they will simply charge more.paladins can boost most dungeons upto sm without any pathing.
The only thing that will stop the boosting meta is more people being pro active in making groups and more people rolling tanks and healers as there is a shortage the players paying for boosts are not the players who will run dungeons. Don’t like them don’t pay for it it’s that simple.
The only measure you can do to stop it completely is remove slows from blizzard and cone of cold which is a terrible idea or limit aoe to 10 targets which they done on tbc which is a nerf to the mage class as a whole and not in line with vanilla.
how would you go and fix pathing in the first place make invisible walls everywhere because most of the 1 pulls are simply jumping off the edge to make space and kiting them around
Fixing the broken XP system that is being exploited in an unintended and game breaking way on a scale that is unique in Classic. Fixing this is easy by drastically lowers the XP gain when a high lvl character kills mobs for you. This is no mystery you know. It is being done everywhere else.
Mages can AOE farm dungeons as much as they want and bring lowlvls for boost for a reasonable xp gain. The ISSUE is when it’s 5 times faster to get boosted compared to playing the game.
as others have said - lower the xp, done. No game breaking changes, no removal of slows et, just a fix to russian/greek/romanian guys earning a LIVING by boosting people in WoW, making the game feel like retail.
Ive quit classic twice due to this rubbish, and my game currently consists of a stream of teldrassil/mulgore runs on lowbies for the feels. A shame.
I dont see the problem,people wanted vanilla and this is how vanilla was.
2005 pathing was bad and they know it,makes me pissed when my pet cant walljump after other players.
Then they will simply just bring a lower lvled mage alt to boost and gather mobs on a 60 tank or low level tank and kill them on the mage until lvl 42 then you can solo boost the same as a level 60 can on dungeons like zf,mara,st ,diremaul and zg without even being level 60.
lower xp will not fix it as the exp gained is already much lower per mob already and any dungeon above zf the mobs are green to a lvl 60 as well as you do not even need to be level 60 to boost.
if you lower exp more on green mobs then Your punishing players leveling legitimately as warriors for example prefer to level up in zones where mobs are green.
Not to mention dungeon services are not the only way to boost you can simply sell services where you wait outside a party on the person paying for boost to tag all the mobs and you kill them gives you alot more exp than if you are in the party and you will kill the mobs alot faster and they can quest in the meantime.
There is nothing you can do that will 100% stop boosting services.
Example of how a lvl 44 mage can solo boost lvl 44 elite mobs in zf without the use of pathing which you can path if you choose to.
At this stage of the game blizzard may as well add a dungeon finder not x-realm because classic is community driven if nobody can use the LFG channel provided to find a group but most players would think this is against the spirit of classic I however would not mind it as I feel for players coming late to the party. The boosted players will simply not lvl alts at all if you somehow found a way to 100% stop them as they are just lvling that way because of the afk nature of it and fixing it won’t magically make tons of dungeon groups
P.s I’m not a fan of boosting services and do not use them and wouldn’t mind them stopped I am just being realistic
Well, you don’t have to be a meta sheep as well. You are free to level up your char however you like it. Getting boosted is pretty boring anyway and one will miss out the real game experience.
If you think you can’t level up your char however you like it because others get boosted then you should think again. Either you have chosen a bad server or play at weird times. It was never a problem for me to find leveling buddies and do dungeons with them…
You’re playing on the wrong realms then. I (RP-Realm) see around one boosting advertisement per 2-3 days. I’ve gone entire weeks without a single one in LFG chat.
You don’t see a problem when it’s literally 5 times faster to stand afk in a dungeon when a professional mage booster who does that for a living boost players and sell the gold making it almost impossible for people to do normal dungeons and find players out in the world?
We wanted vanilla but unintended exploits that are game breaking on huge scale are totally reasonable to fix. All that is needed is a minor tweak to xp gained in dungeons when a high lvl character are in the grp.
Mages can still aoe farm and people can still get boosted, but they would get ~90% less xp compared to now so it would be slower than playing the game.
As I have said many times now. The issue is not mage aoe farming or boosting, The issue is that it’s MUCH faster to get boosting while standing AFK compared to playing the game. If it was at a slower speed it wouldn’t be an issue.
