Otherwise how can you explain ridiculous price for character copy which is a cost of standalone brand new game.
So if they are not happy why they going for it anyway.
Well, portion of players, probably up to 30% of current base would like to stay on Classic and keep enjoying it. And biggest issue will be justifying to keep all those servers on even for 1 player on dead realms if he choses to keep on going in Classic. At the same time Blizz dont want to cause uproar and force everyone to either play TBC or wave goodbye to WoW Classic.
It crossed my mind to leave maybe 1 or 2 characters if the price was like 1/3 at most of what was announced. Hell, on a good day I pledged to spend even 1/2 of the cost, but in the end its just dont make any sense to me.
This is partly why I leveled alts over the last year or so. The one of the un-geared alts is going to be my TBC main while my geared main stays on classic. I just hope enough people stay on classic (or return after the initial TBC hype) to make it viable.
I wanted to play both, but there is no way on Earth I’m paying £35. I think it’s so high because they regretted not monetising classic from the start, especially with how boosting and gold buying turned out. Can’t help but feel that the players have contributed to these “added features” coming in with TBC and blizzard just wanna make a quick buck instead of fixing the issues.
I cancelled my sub and it runs out tomorrow anyway. I will come back when they release fresh classic servers or I’m bored of the 10 other games I’m bouncing between.
I think the price is this high because mainly they want to separate the playerbase.
Classic Era servers and their communities will face a series of unique challenges. With most of the population going to TBC, the communities who remain will need to coalesce to keep playing and raiding. Classic Era will surely die if people can’t manage to pull off complete raiding teams, nobody wants that sour feeling of going 27 people in a 40-man raid and getting wipe after wipe after wipe because there just isn’t enough juice in the box. People who will also be playing TBC will most probably get more invested in TBC as time goes by, and a lot of them will consider TBC raiding as priority, so what Classic Era communities get with free clones are a boatload of flaky, unreliable sleeper chars. The price sends a clear message: you commit to either of them, if you want to keep a character just for the sake of having it on display, that’s a luxury that also loads up the database and interferes with metrics so pay up.
That’s another paygate that will have to be overcome. There might be a server “merge” like in Brazil (I’m guessing this is why we see our server tags now) however that’s just speculation. It is a bit of extra extortion however it also has the positive side of further dividing the playerbase, I’ve heard a lot of people say “well, regarding my five chars, I want two in TBC and three in Classic Era” and that’s somehow circling back to the same issue of having flaky chars in Classic Era, but if you have to pay for each of those characters all of a sudden triaging what you’re gonna play with sounds like a better idea.
I will probably only go back to classic era if there is new server , or they get reset. And they really need to do something about the bots and the exployting.
I think the same , they thought classic would flop and it didn’t it was more succesful than they originally thought. Bet someone at Bli$$ard was like we missed out on millions here.
Eventually there will be fresh classic realms. I don’t have much interest in the ones that have already been played through completely. Probably there is more people like me out there.
Well they are substantially increasing the number of servers which costs money. And we are paying the same subscription for like forever. Its obvious they want some of these money back. They can either get these money from people who want to play both TBC and Classic OR increase subscription which would hurt people who play only 1 version.
Btw you can leave some of your characters in Classic and move some to TBC and it costs nothing.
It seems obvious to me from business point of view. They will have bigger expenses and they need to compensate these expenses. I don´t know how else to do that, any ideas?
good point, personally i would have preferred if they finance the new TBC servers by selling the game TBC Classic for $$ but you can imagine the sh1tstorm when peeps who bought TBC back then need to buy it again now so from a business perspective the way they chose is better. But I wonder if they really need more servers or if on avg the amount of classic players stays the same and is just split between TBC and Classic.
The price per se isn’t an issue, I just refuse to pay more than the Original TBC for a feature that should have been free for your main character, the pay wall is just a way to drain as much money as they can, not like gold sellers can’t afford full accounts copies.
Staying in an old expansion. This chance was never here, not even is original Vanilla – TBC transition. You want something which was never here for free. What you say is “Blizzard should spend more money on servers to allow us play both Classic Vanilla and Classic TBC with our main character”.
Freely staying in the old expansion is what WoW Classic is all about to begin with. We are not paying to access new things like whatever the shizzle theyy’ll throw after Shadowlands, this is a game they already had us pay for and no resource was involved if not for the servers (which we pay with our subs) and some unrusting of the code, there is litterally less than 10 ppl working on Classic wow and it’s all maintenance.
You guys are becoming fat whales without even realizing it.
You have no clue how expensive servers are do you ?
You can freely stay in Classic Vanilla forever without paying anything. You can also freely proceed to TBC without paying anything. If you want to play 1 character in both versions separately you can for a fee. Easy as that. Noone forces you. As I said, you can play whatever you want for free with your character - TBC or Vanilla.
You leveled up 1 character. No reason to have another character (its copy) for free, don´t be so entitled. Blizzard will have to pay for Vanilla servers because of those people who want to play both TBC and Classic.
