Maybe just ban and remove the gear of this people who so obviously abused the system very well knowing it was an exploit.
Nah. There’s just a crowd of people around here that have a thing for pretending to not know about something and will refuse to acknowledge it, even when you provide evidence they have some bs excuse to defend it when already proven wrong.
You guys do know people have been banned for this now, right? with gear / wealth taken away and a month suspension. right? Ah, we are ignoring this and crying on? I see.
10 exploits required to post
I’m going to enjoy classic regardless, but I do see why people are mad, so they ban a few people but still thousands of gold will still have been exsploited into the game. Hopefully they really crack down on it.
You, precisely. Why do you ask for evidence from random players when there are blue posts about it everywhere?
No actually we don’t know that because that info hasn’t been released yet.
he’s likely referring to this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/comments/d56l1c/bans_for_layering_exploits_are_beginning_to_go_out/
since when have blizz made posts about actions taken? they give posts about actions about too be taken. and that they have told you.
I take it you didn’t read the blue post then as layering DID NOT AFFECT the raid.
Blizzard confirmed that they spoke to the raid group and told them yo carry on .
Someone mentioned Esfand’s random MC reset in this thread, which is a pretty clean example of the other end of the spectrum. In that case, they just turned up to raid and the instance had been reset. They didn’t do anything intentional to cause it or go looking for reproduction steps so they could abuse it - in fact, they reported it to us and didn’t continue until they got confirmation that it was out of their control (and that we wouldn’t consider it an exploit if they cleared).
So might want to remove that vid link before accusing them of exploiting .
You kinda have to take what they say officially with a grain of salt, since they too can use any kind of scapegoat to gloss over the problem. And they do have a very clear incentive to drive away bad perceptions of the layering technology, since they’re likely to use it for the next expansion (no source, just makes sense since sharding is already overloaded with negative PR).
As for exploit or not, they gained a competitive advantage through a glitch. Literally the definition of it in their own ToS. The GM is at fault for approving it.
Keep in mind, Blizzard hasn’t upheld rules for a very long time. They’ve followed the marketing approach to make it seem like action is taken, yet you keep seeing the same problem coming back. It has been their MO for a very long time now.
Or in other words, they’re not obligated to tell you the truth, if anything at all. It’s all about pros and cons with companies in situations such as these, and what carries the most pros.
The thing is with this streamer why go back to a cleared raid already or were they only partial way in ?
Does it matter? Should only the ones who finds it accidentally be allowed to take advantage of it? No, that isn’t how exploitation works. While if they were intending to continue the raid from wherever they left off if that was the case, then the moral high ground would’ve been to deal with the bosses (although the GM should’ve killed them on his own and then delete the loot), and not loot the bosses they had already cleared.
That would’ve been the only way to steer clear of gaining an advantage through a glitch. (Still likely due to layering, given how frequent it is now while it wasn’t frequent at all or if it even happened in vanilla to begin with.)
They used to have it in their ToS that you had an obligation to avoid gaining an advantage through a glitch regardless if it was intended or not, in the past. But these last few years they’ve “updated” both the forum ToS and the game’s ToS quite heavily, so that might be gone. (I cba to check rn, it’s 4:30 am for crying out loud.)
MC/Onyxia should have been closed for a few months after release.
inb4 anyone refers to the linked thread with Lore’s blue post, about people saying it “did happen in vanilla”, keep in mind this was way over a decade ago. Without forum logs from back then or screenshots to back it up, it’s just not believable considering the frequency of it now with the layering and the resemblance it carries to the layer hopping.
Because it falls under the same logic people used when they were dismissing anything claimed about vanilla by true vanilla players, that they “remembered it wrong”.
There is also the condition known as mythomania (you never truly know in short interactions on the interwebs who’s got it and who doesn’t when it’s between strangers), and memory can get manipulated with psychological tricks.
For example, if you show an all-yellow item as you talk about dresses several times in a day with a friend or family member, then eventually asks about the dress worn during the summer 15 years ago which the other person just so happens to only remember in a very fragmented state, then the person is likely to say it was a yellow dress as they act like it clicked for them.
It’s subliminal messaging. Some are more easily affected by it than others.
In other words, by having Lore say it, there are the compulsive liars who will feel the need to follow that lie (whether or not it is a lie is irrelevant in this paragraph, because it’s such an uncertain thing to claim and so hard to prove, it’s easily perceived as a lie even by a mythomaniac), and there are those who did play back then but with the memory so fragmented it just “made sense” in their subconscious so it filled a gap, even though it might not be true.
The brain can be funny that way.
Why should I have to restart? I didn’t abuse anything.
Oh, You are esfand, it’s okay go get some extra gear from extra Bosses we’ll call It “Happy litlle accident” have fun
No, it’s a hoax literally no one got hit
I cannot echo this sentiment enough!
Though it’s possible blizzard actually knew they would be bringing down rag 1 week into the game
That’s not what I said at all.
I overlooked the issue of 1.12 mechanics alongside this phase progression system. I was wrong to do that, it’s a shame it happened.
That and exploits aside the game is still a blast
