I still can't believe 99% of people still bind keys in this wrong way

You gain 1 key from moving to ESDF (A) but it also puts CTRL out of the way. Losing one modifier is equal to losing like 15 keys. With your method, you gain IJN, and the rest is relegated to the pinky. Not really good considering how much you lose. With WASD, all the keyboard until the UJM keys is comfortably usable, especially in a game with a GCD like WoW.

Did you know I don’t use macros? It’s an old adage from my Lineage 2 days: “don’t use macros cuz it makes you lazy”. The only ones I use are @cursor macros for aoe spells.

I don’t know why you’re looking for affirmation for your wrong keyboard setup, but it’s really quite sad.

Not sure if you have a conventional keyboard, because enter for example is miles away from there here and I can’t even reach it. This is mainly a setup for alt, 6.7.8(maybe 9),o,p,l,F5,F6,etc.

But even if I did have more space and could just move the whole keyboard 20 cm’s to the left, that would make typing less comfortable.

As i said, if you like your button config, good for you, but I have my own equally valid reasons why I prefer ASDW, and it’s not just “that’s what’s the default and nobody thinks”.

I didn’t even think of that but it is true - the spacebar is either relegated to the pinky (which is already handling a lot), or to the thumb, by putting the thumb kind of under your palm to press it. What the hell XD

I can refute your “pinky is too hard to control and press keys with” fairly easily:

I mean I just keep moving it. It’s not like it’s bolted on the desk. I wonder if you’re a little ocd (not literally) about it being on the same spot 100% of the time.

I bind as many keys as I can reach from WASD (IJKL for this example) so there is that potential for me to hit enter by mistake. That might just be me though.

Its control isn’t the main problem in that area of the keyboard. It doesn’t even rest on a modifier on the resting position. So when you actually have to hit shift then the entire hand moves to awkward positions (and some people even use ctrl making it way worse).

My pinky rests on shift naturally when using WASD, and still would using ESDF. Going to the control key only means pulling it a bit inwards. There is zero awkward hand movement when I play. It’s mostly finger movement and slight wrist movement.

“EVERYONE IS WRONG BAR ME”

said every idiot in history

All that is wishful thinking. If you just drop a “dead” hand there then the pinky will be around caps lock or between caps lock and shift and it’s a finger with less decisive control than all others.
I can see people wanting at least 2 modifiers requiring the left side of the keyboard but I haven’t seen a reason 2 modifiers are required.

it is quite easy to hit ctrl :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’m not arguing doability here. That setup isn’t completely terrible (some still use the arrows for example). But I find it naive that the thumb which is probably the most controllable finger in the entire body is doing only 1 or max 3 keys when it could have control of at least a modifier plus 1 to 3 keys.

To make my pinky rest naturally on caps locks (not between, dead on), I have to move my hand forward and at that point, the tip of my middle finger is right on top of the 3 key.

And as for modifiers, I only use shift.

The advantage of alt thumb compared to yours, is that if you press the modifier then the other fingers can move around in a very comfy manner while if the pinky tries to take control it hinders the other 3 fingers next to it.
I suspect it’s because the thumb has evolved to be an extremely powerful finger compared to non-ape animals and can leave the rest doing their thing more easily (it’s practically separated from the others).

u guys say u still set keyboard bindings manualy in wow now days ? ur tec is so outdated …

Aren’t people using ALT, and at least C and V with the thumb? I am myself not really a fan of the shift-modifier.

None of my other fingers have their movement impaired whatsoever when I use my pinky. Not to mention you’re contradicting yourself, because only a few posts above you said it’s not about control. Go back to the video I linked and tell me the guitarist using his pinky to press the string is impairing the rest of his hand. Pressing a fairly huge keyboard key with your pinky is nothing compared to the precision and strength it takes to press guitar strings properly.

Yeah but it’s on the left of it so it has to move which is less comfy, and it has to be the asdw keys and not sdfe which makes the whole thing worse because then there are no much keys on the left of the keyboard in general.
The entire thing is a relic from FPS games that had very few keys so the asdw area in general is problematic for MMOs of 999 binds.

u dont need keybinds when we will have mind controlled computers in 2030
