Never understood that. Can someone explain please?
One of the best in PvP? Well maybe because theres only 9 classes in total:p
We’re a great class overall. Decent in early raids, good enough in later raids and with plenty of PvP potential. Fine CC options, best at kiting for sure, etc.
Because PvP isn’t about best DPS. It’s about CC, stuns, slows, escapes, self healing etc
Shadow priests are god mode PvPers with mediocre at best DPS. They have tons of utility, self heals, absorbs, escaoe mechanics which make them gods.
Hunters are the same, they can slow people and kite for days. Very strong vs melee, and strong vs casters too. All a round a top PvP class. Most classes have a mega weak counters. Wars get wrecked by mage, priest, warlock, hunter. But do very well vs the rest for example. Hunters don’t really have a weak class, played well they can 1vs1 anyone and have a a good chance to win.
every class has it’s place in a pvp environment, i don’t think there’s really a “best”.
I’ve been speaking with one guy and he told me that when people say hunter don’t scale well in late game they do not separet consistent damage vs burst damage.
Consistent DPS doesn’t scale well, that’'s why in raid they’re not top DPS, still, burst manage is still strong (reason why they can one-shot casters). Raids are about consistent, not burst, since mobs in raid have much large amount of HP than players.
Is that true?
It would atleast be partially true. But if you look at this speedkill of Gothik the Harvester in 21 seconds, Hunter was 23rd in dps and they only took one.

(edit2:edited to say there was actually 2, but was misreading. Only one hunter in that kill)
sorry what’s your point?
20 seconds is burst damage
well, are you saying hunters doesn’t have good burst dps? i don’t think that taking one example would explain that.
They dont have the best burst compared to other classes and they scale well with Naxx gear due to the ammount of Agi on T3, so you can take advantage of Lighting Reflexes in Surv tree.
Because PvP never was and never will be about DPS.
Hunters can reset fights as much as they want, they can kite melee classes infinitely, both from melee and from range. They can shoot up clothies before the clothies have a chance to fight back. They have a huge variety of pets, each of which is good for specific situations.
Also, hunters have always been great flag-carrier killers and great damage-dealers in BGs throughout all expansions due to them not needing to stop and cast or to get close - they just target you and pew-pew away. Vanilla being as sluggish as it is, hunters make the most of it by being able to hit-and-run.
Also - the two most feared classes in vanilla are warrior and rogue: hunters can fool them around like a grown man fools a baby around with a popsicle.
add a pocket healer and you have a nuclear bomb
Keep in mind, I’m not glorifying hunters. I absolutely hate hunters in BGs and how easily they top the charts, but you just can’t deny how good they are in guerrilla warfare, far better than rogues can ever dream of being.
Hunter only good for annoying casters with viper sting. Annoying enemy players is way better.
“Because PvP never was and never will be about DPS.”
I guess that one example of this are Warriors.
Even in 60 with gear and their huge amount of DPS, they suck in PvP without a healer on his back.
This is due to their mobility issue.
Warriors are the worst and situational best in PvP ( with added pocket healer )
Hunters are good in pvp.
In order them to be great in PVP - FD must be fixed.
Hunter’s scale pretty well with gear but not with world buffs. Hunters are one of the 3 ranged dps, all 3 are pretty similar, Warlock ends up being the best, then mage/hunter is disputed or depends on the raid.
yeah but we’re talking about pvp, no pve.
Regarding PvE, main issues seems to be mana in longer fights in later content, the fact that pets dont scale with your gear, and that gear upgrades from BWL onward are underwhelming.
