Is retail worth coming back to?

Might be a weird edit cause this work PCs browser is…weird.
Anyway:

Only problem is. There is NOTHING to discuss with these preachers. All they see is “doom and gloom”. I can say to them a good morning and they will complain that the “morning is not good enough for them”. I can give them a free gold bar and they will claim that its not shinny and pretty enough.

So if you think there is something to discuss with them. By all means. The only discussion topic I see with them is…which brand of antidepressants are their favourite.

I think it’s unreasonable, but not unfair, to judge people based on their writing. Because that is what’s being judged. I can present the “WoW is dying”-sentiment with far more eloquence than most, and in far better writing than many, and with more arrogance than all. But that doesn’t make it more true. It just makes me better at writing posts on a video game forum.

My point was not that any such posts have discussion value, but that they have merit.

Well I dont know much about forums obviously but the last time I checked it was a video game discussion forum. Not a personal Facebook blog to cry out your feelings?

What’s the difference in merit between the fanboy who shares his excitement and awe for the game, and the doomsayer who professes his misery and dismay with it?

As a WoW player, I didn’t feel like FF was worth playing. :woman_shrugging:t2:
If that doesn’t tell you enough; then here’s the obvious version -
Only you will know.

First I never supported mindless fanboying either. But at least I can see a sense of logic there. You use a product which you like…er adore?

While using a product which you detest to prove…how miserable you are? Like whats the point, wheres the logic in it? Its like me for example I really detest 1 local brand of cake which I tried. Just a small bite literally provoked a vomit in me due to its taste being simply beyond disquieting. Even now, looking at the package alone upsets my stomach. But if I was the doomer&gloomer here on the forums. I should buy said cake, eat it and get sick to my stomach to “prove” to somebody …how miserable I am? Any bystander would just call me a fool “why buy something which you hate” at best and at worst would ask if I got some masochism spectrum mental disorder?

Well, just to take this thread first, then there’s an OP who basically asks if Retail is any good.
And the forum, at its core, is a large stadium filled with people who either say “Yay!” or “Boo!” on any given topic.
And so the posts in this thread are just people chipping in with their personal Yay! or Boo!
But then some people would like to say that some of the Boo! doesn’t count, because it’s presented in a manner that disqualifies it. I simply object to that, because the manner in which the Boo! is presented is the same as the Yay! – it’s just personal feeling and conviction, expressed in english writing at varying levels of quality.
And that’s all of equal merit.

Now, hence so far as the doomsayers being miserable for being the self-consumers of their own woes, well to what end? He who was a doomsayer back in TBC, is he still here? Or those who proclaimed WoW dying back in Cataclysm or Shadowlands, are they still here?
It appears to me, to be a means to an end.

Feels like its the same torch. Different carrier. You could take a doomsayer post from say…2010s and todays and fundamentally nothing will change. Maybe just cosmetic changes such as “if in 2010 people said. Raids are dead. Then now they would say raids and m+ are dead cause obviously m+ didnt exist back in 2010”.
So if you are asking me if the torch carrier from Cata is still around. No idea. I don’t pay attention to it but the torch will remain and we will get a new carrier…be it next week, perhaps next month or maybe next year? Next season…the possibilities are endless!

OK. So what does that prove for anyone who DOESN’T have your friend list? Your friend list only applies to you. It doesn’t apply to me, Santa Claus and especially not the OP.

That was a silly example.

But I’ll bite as to your “only one friend list”…

Shouldn’t you be doing all you can to get people to play WoW so they can maybe join your friend list?

Did that never occur to you while you were writing your “meh, wow is dead, you’re all in denial…”

They use it because it’s perfectly true. There’s at least 5 people in this thread doing exactly that, telling the OP not to bother because the game is “dead”.

You’re one of them.

The same reality that was in Cata?
MoP?
WoD?
Legion?
BfA?
Shadowlands?
Dragonflight?

And here we are, in TWW with a game that just celebrated it’s 20 anniversary and it’s been dead since

Have you just worked this out??? This has ALWAYS been the business model with ANY videogame, especially the MMO. Are you really so naive that you think it is only WoW that pumps out FOMO content to entice customers back again? If you do I have moon diamonds to sell you.

No really! WoW news flash!

20 year old game has changed and adapted to suit changing attitudes to videogame.

I prostrate myself at your stunning insight into videogaming. No one apparently ever thought of that…

Then why are you still here? Oh let me guess. You have already cancelled your sub and you’re letting it run out.

The only reality is that fools like you will carry on loudly telling anyone bored enough to listen that they’re playing a dead videogame, loudly telling everyone that still plays that they’re in denial about “dying” videogame, but sadly for you and all the other doomsayers, here’s the reality.

The only people in denial are you, because you want everyone to see that WoW is dead but ignore the fact that you’re all still playing, you’re all still doing the FOMO content, and most deliciously ironic of all.

No matter what way you do to keep your sub going, be it direct sub, or buying tokens, or buying with gold, every single one of you, are handing over your money to Blizzard to play a videogame you can’t stop playing so you go into denial of reality mode and tell yourself it’s dying, and hope others believe you.

Blizzard thanks you for your money.

if you think the game is that dead. Stop. Giving. Them. Your. Money.

To cut a long story short. Yeah, sub is cancelled. Why would I try everything I can for people to come back? Wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone in its current state.

Kinda reminds me of a political term - Useful fools. (probably with less flattering words but this one is the forum friendly one I can think off.)

Isn’t that which you claim not to pay attention to, the perceived reality the doomsayer is lamenting? The torch passes carrier, again and again and again…

The game is dying…

I dont pay attention to the face who said it but the message itself is pretty copy-pasta at this point.

Kinda want to joke sometimes if the Doomsayer brotherhood has a monthly schedule on who preaches when cause the texts feels like pretty much exact copies.

I don’t really care what they do with their sub. its their money. What annoys me is the rank hypocisy of telling someone who asked if it’'s worth coming back and their reaction is “Nope. Dead game” and recycling the same tired very easilly busted reasons, and then to cap it all off they think “ive already cancelled my sub” is some kind of killer retort. It isn’t.

It never was.

it never will be.

because until they day that they are paying my sub for me, what they do with their sub is of absolutely no consequence to anyone except them.

But to complain that they only have one friend in their friend list and then actively tell someone NOT to play the game is not so much shooting yourself in the foot but more like wearing steel toe capped boots and jumping up and down in a minefield.

I am quite endeared to it. I think it conveys a lot of feeling and conviction in very little writing.

Its not that deep. Population is low. If you want to deny that. Thats fine. You are wrong though. I havent logged in since November (except christmas to pick up the gifts)

My sub is running out as we speak and in the meantime I am allowed to express my opinion. Not sure why you are getting so triggered for either.

Feels like parroting around some trendy buzzwords without even the smallest sense of originality to me but I suppose we will have to agree to disagree at this point…

Ofc you are allowed to express your opinion, even if it’s clearly wrong. Just don’t pretend to be right.

At NO point did i say the population was high.

Until I say either the population is high or low I can’t be wrong. I have no idea what the official number of subs are. For all I know it could be as high as they were in WotLK. They could be as high as they were last week. Neither do you.

You’re guessing based on your perception. So you, are more likely to be wrong than I am. But do carry on.

Not my concern. Yours.

Again. At no point did I suggest you were not allowed to? I am merely showing you the hypocrisy of someone who is NOT playing, telling someone who may be about to play, NOT to play because YOU think they shouldn’t because you don’t play anymore.

Do you get it yet?

Eurgh… “triggered”… Haha… hoho… “triggered snowflake…” ha ha… hee hee…

Yawn. It would have been so much easier and you would have saved so much egg from being thrown in your face if you had simply said “yea… I guess you are right in a way Soul” instead of backing yourself into a corner and resorting to “triggered”

Like those who parrot Blizzard’s talking point about “high retention”?

Again, it’s being judgemental of the manner of the writing rather than the sentiment behind it.
I’m not sure how far one gets with that here.
