I just want another iteration of TBC and WotLK. This time without ruining the realms with paid transfers.
Well, the main reason was that some zones that I loved just the way they were (e.g. Barrens, 1K needles) were changed to be very different. I also didn’t like Orgrimmar (and I confirmed my dislike when I tried Retail some time back) - whilst it looked more like an actual city, it lost that ramshackle Horde charm it had, and additionally felt too visually busy.
Also, I really disliked the window-dressing mobs that were endlessly hitting each other in a number of zones. It looks great when you’re just passing through, but if you sit there for more than a few seconds you can tell that it’s just fake. It takes away from the organic feel of the world.
I’d say that on a whole, the world felt a bit over-designed to me from Cata onward. Less than an actual world and more like a game world.
That’s not to say that the redesign is objectively bad. Technically it looks better. It just didn’t click with me on a personal level.
Oh absolutely. I believe at some point they will. They cannot keep pushing out Vanilla stuff, at some point they need to have a focus on TBC or wrath, especially since we did not get ERA servers.
Fair point, and while entirely subjective, I can see why people might not like it.
I personally like the post cata world, it feels more lived-in if that makes sense. Way more hubs with NPCs roaming around, not standing still. For example WPL was a very good zone in vanilla, in Cata it gor a great story that evolved the zones as you progressed.
Some like Westfall felt too much of a parody, but others like Redridge struck a nice balance imo.
At least now you have a reason to visit the entire zone, not just the part north and south of the town.
All in all the vanilla questing experience seems more like an adventure but it’s questing design is just boring and the world feels a bit empty.
The question is, won’t they ruin the realms with transfers again?
Indeed it is more of an adventure! I get your criticism though, the quest design itself is more “primitive” and basic, so to speak. That been said, it worked for me - maybe because it made me use my imagination to fill in the gaps! It’s probably part of the charm of older games, and why they feel like more personal experiences.
When it comes down to it… The old world felt less curated and less like a game, it was an ambience in which you could get lost - if it managed to click with you. Again, it’s not to say that Cata’s version is bad per se… Just different to what I wanted and associated with my WoW experience.
I do hope to find the time to try out the Alliance leveling experience though, I want to see how much of my attitude toward Cata is a case of old-world nostalgia. And since, as I’ve said many times, the old world lives on in Era and I don’t have an emotional connection to the Alliance experience like I do with Horde, I’ll be able to take a more level-headed and positive approach.
I’d LOVE to see permanent wrath servers, it’s always been my favourite version of the game. I hope that we can see a way to keep our chatacters in their final level 80 form and have access to ICC, even if it’s just one Wrath Era server / Cluster. It’s why I live , it is why I breath!
Not everyone who plays do Raids there are a lot of Pve players who just like questing and levelling and delete and re-roll at 80 . For me Raids and the guilds who live for them are the worst part of WoW what with Gearscore and the associated snobbery goes with it …
I rly feel like thats 1 or 2 guys keep spaming/bumping those wotlk era threads, on low lvl toons
I also suport the idea to keep a few wotlk servers, seeing how it is the last version with a hint of game design in it. I played many years on private servers and I quit wow altogether when those servers switched to the new expansions. I tried 1-2 month of MoP and 1-2 month of Cataclism here on blizz and it was quite awfull. The original champion classes were destroyed (how they feel to play). Rogues got heal, paladins got combo points, everything class specific (e.g. quests) was removed, cloth armour users can have more armour than plate armour users, talent trees are reduced to dust to prevent character granular customisation, when you leave one expansion to another (eg. leave Northrend to Cataclism regions) your stats change by 500% in the course of a level, and of course I could go on and on enough to write a book about it. In my opinion, every expansion that came after wotlk brought more bad changes to the game than good ones ( i think wow subscriber numbers in each of the expansions tell more than anyone of us could write here). TLDR, I am also one of those who will not be playing on the “new expansions”, i quit free private servers when they switched to those, I sure will not be paying to play a game version i don’t enjoy.
Keep WOTLK classic servers Blizzard
Kinda telling that all of these basically have 1-2 posts.
Shut down wotlk faster pls I want to see it burn from the CATACLYSM
I don’t think this is a good idea. Or I wanted the SoD to reach WotLK
I dont think SoD WotLK is a solution to us the WotLK era fan. Because the ERA servers offer permanent an cotidian experience. SoD is the opposite. Actually SoD and Cata/progress classic, has the same segment.
My point is that WotLK era server is vaible because the segment is totally different with SoD or Progressing server classic
I can’t see how it is viable. Literally everyone is doing collections, achievements, anything but progression that is arguably the most fun part of WoW PvE.
And please don’t mention private servers, they have seasonal model with resets far too often.
ye - lets ignore the obvious place where a lot of true wolk fans wll migrate as soon as wolk classic dissapears
Kek since biggest wotlk privates ever got like 20k online if we belive theyr numbers, not many will leave.
lol need attention much?
You mean the 500 people + the 20 000 others that the server claim to play but actually don’t exist?
It won’t be WOTLK Era that’s for sure. They will wait till another reset or go play on fresh character on some of the SEASONAL Wrath private realm. Nobody wants to play vs full geared admin shop abusers for more than a year.
If we are still talking about official Wrath Era belive me it will be dead in half of a year even if Blizzard would promise it to last untill closure of WoW realms.
Seasonal Wrath realm is another topic.
