Legion and Shadowlands have both seen them loosen race/class restrictions. And the big-daddy with Cata. BfA also saw a loosening on some level what with Troll Paladins and Orc Priests becoming available via their respective allied races.
Wut?
Thatâs not âlooseningâ though, they were ânewâ races.
New is the word here.
It gives lore vindication for their original races to get access to those same classes.
Some would be super easy. Human Druids and Shamans could just use the Kul Tiran stuff.
LOL I usually hate threads of ideas like that, because it ruins lore ! ugly trolls and humans can be druids ! Cows can be priests and paladins, little vermin vulpera can be mages !
To hell with it ! For the first time I agree with Aeula because the Night Elves got nothing else to lose.
Finally someone who understands.
You do realize if all races could just play as any class, racials would need to be balanced even more, and it would destroy the lore?
I have been wanting it for ages⊠if you donât like it then just play the race/combinations you like.
What someone else chooses to play has no affect on you at all on a pve server - although from an rp perspective it could be disabled on those realms.
RPers want these restrictions removed too. The only thing that community has left is self expression.
Implying the lore is somehow salvageable in itâs current state
I get it, you donât care about lore. Others do though.
why? You can use the argument about warriors and huntersâŠ
I cared. Blizzard donât. So now I donât either. If you somehow still do then Blizzard clearly havenât done enough just yet.
You are actually the r-word.
We are saying this because we care a lot about lore, but retcon after retcon after retcon is a clear indicator that lore gets bent for the sake of gameplay time after time from vanilla till Shadowlands. From druids being exclusive to Night Elves in WC3 to humans being druidsâŠnow they are even adding blue eyed blood elf/Void elf because of all the rage about wanting High Elves.
âTheyâre bending the lore, so why not bend it more?â Lol ok
If you dont see it then you clearly do no play rpg games in general. Restrictions are there to force you to make a choice. If everything is acessible to you then you are not making any meaingfull choice its like w/e. Why you think covenants are gonna be restricted way they are?
The first few editions of dungeons and dragons had really heavy class/race restrictions actually. I think it was eased in second edition somewhat. Icewind Dale 1 still uses the old D&D system, so you can check it there if you have doubts.
Because there is nothing more to bend, the current race/class combinations are proof of that. Blizzard chipped at lore for 12 years now, some people are holding on to nostalgia at best. The company has shown that every race can adapt and take on new roles/classes. The taurens learned druidism and taught it to the trolls in a matter of few years etcâŠThey can modify the lore to suit gameplay.
elves couldnât be paladins in early editions of D&D for example you canât be a elven paladin in Baldurâs gate since it uses 2.5 i think
neverwinter nights used 3.5 i believe and that was the first time we saw a elven paladin and she was a traitor too âŠ
I would definitely make a paladin of every race if I could. Iâm not sure that I should be able to, but I would totally take advantage.
How aboutâŠ
No.
