Level 30 and only 16 Gold

Hello all,

I’m a quite casual player, I do the quests and try to find a bit of herbs here and there. But how surprised I am, I didn’t think I’d make so little money !!
Is it normal or I’m doing something completely wrong ?
I’m a warlock, so I took Tailoring and because I thought people would buy all my herbs, I took herbalism. As level 30 I find it difficult to sell my mats and I don’t know anymore how to get a bit more gold for future mounts etc…

Can’t answer that without knowing more about how you play.

Are you soloquesting/doingDungeons/grinding?
Do you buy all your skills and Demon-Skillbooks?
Do you get gear from the AH?
Are you leveling your Tailoring?

Also, 16 gold at level 30 is quite normal for casual play. The herbs you can pick are simply not very valuable, except for maybe Steelbloom, GraveMoss & Swiftthistle, which you do not come acros very often.

Gold picks up massively around lvl 40, with vendorloot upping from a few coppers to several silver worth a piece, and lots of quests with good gold-value vendor-rewards (e.g. the Axe from "Into the Scarlet Monastery). IIRC, I made about 40 gold on Sorzza between lvl 38 and 42, compared to the 30ish something made from 1-38. And that’s not including random BoEs which I sent to my bank-alt and sold off later.

I wouldn’t worry if I were you.
Just enjoy the game, gold happens over time.

Gold income from trash and greens vendor ramps up around 40+ level, especially for weapons.

Only those that are used for current consumables. Herbalism will give you a lot of gold at higher levels.

At level 30 you can just… fish. Oily, Eel, Firefin, Stranglekelp will sell. Even Deviate from Barrens.

thanks for your advices guys ! I feel a bit more relax now about it. I felt very poor haha

I felt the same way when I was your level.

It does ramp up.
I also went and farmed some skins to sell on AH to go towards the cost of mount.

Btw there is something that I don’t understand with the AH.
I personally try to not buy my mats etc because I would lose money if I have to craft from only bought materials.
My question is, why do people buy from the AH then ? If they never craft their own stuffs, they will lose a significant amount of gold and won’t have enough to buy anything at some point, no ?

Swiftthistle (from Mageroyal or Briarthorn) also sells very well (1g/piece at least) plus Wild Steelbloom and Gravemoss (also lowish level) sells well too. If you want some gold, spend an hour in Duskwood farming these herbs and you’ll have plenty of gold in no time OP

thanks, but why do you write "Swiftthistle (from Mageroyal or Briarthorn) ".
Isn’t Swifttthistle an herb on its own ? You say “from mageroyal”…?? When I pick up these herbs I get them seperatly.

Some herbs are not just used for alchemy, some are used for other proffs, like swiftthistle for thistle tea for rogues. Gravemoss is gathered near graveyards so go find some that aren’t being farmcamped.

I’d suggest areas but I don’t know what realm you are on so might farm my areas.

Swifttthisle is farmed when you pick those nodes as well, two for one if you will.

What, those herbs can sell for 1 gold ??
I always see them in the AH for about 50 silver max (silver moon server) !

I thought you were talking about Classic not retail.

Goldmaking in retail is far different to Classic.

Because they have other sources of income, such as Mageboosts, AoE farming, GDKP runs. Some people also exchange retail gold (which you can buy via AH tokens) for classic gold with other players (not against any rules I’m aware of). And yes, there are also those who buy gold from 3rd party vendors (aka. professional goldsellers), which is forbidden, and can lead to bans.

The “loss” compared to farming everything yourself, is relative, because farming takes time.

Sorry I meant “Pyrewood Village” server. So yes, I’m on Classic

Okay, the same realm as me, prices go up and down on the AH, still that means a stack of 20 goes for 10g, a third of what you already have.

I do hope you are not vendoring your greens but selling them on the AH, you can tell if they are worth anything by getting an addon like auctioneer and scanning the AH every day or two, I use an alt for it both, the selling and the scanning.

I find it’s about creating the right item to sell on the AH with tailoring, look what you can make and look at the lowest price on the AH, the addon will help with that, it can search better than the default UI.

Usually the best sellers are those that need extra things like pearls or potions.

hmmm when I try to sell my green or blue, it says that it’s soul bond and I can’t sell them in the AH…so my only option is to sell them to the vendors

There are two types of items, those are Bind on Pickup (BoP) and Bind on Equip (BoE), I thought since you have a retail 60 you would already know the difference.

BoPs are from quests and boss drops, BoEs are from normal mobs. When you mouse over the item in your bags it will say which one it is.

okay, but then which one can I sell in the AH ?
Since Bop or Boy are both binds

BoEs are not bound to you, unless you equip them. A warning will come up if you try.

Look under item level at the third line on these two items.

so far I’ve only sold every drops to the vendors because everyone told me that low level drops won’t sell in the AH.
Which also makes sense, I guess…if you are a low level, you have very few silver and you’d rather maybe save them for later instead of waisting your money in gears you will get anyway by questing or killing mobs yourself.
No ?

Then you have wasted so much gold, I sell everything on the AH and some go for far more than vendor price. A lot of people go back to the start and level new classes and need them to have decent stuff to make levelling easier, so they have gold to spend on low level stuff.

It may only be one or two gold per item but if you have 20 items that means a lot of gold for a newcomer.

And it’s also why an addon helps.
