Lewd names shouldn't exist within world of Warcraft for kids

They want to report a name that contains “bootyslapper”? Really? If the OP considers someone’s behind to be offensive, maybe turning their child into a hermit might be an appropriate response.

I got forced to rename because random spiteful ppl reported me for various names that offended literally noone. Imo the system works automatically nowadays. If I asked for reasoning behind the forced rename, they just copy pasta their tos, which states nothing, but is so vague they can use it to force anything upon us. RIP my orc warlock JabbaTheButt. Ppl are insecure about existence of butts in NA, obviously, and I blame ppl like the topic creator. Some ppl should not be on the internet, for their own good.

I presumed that was the placeholder they put in to avoid naming and shaming. No it’s not something I would report.

However, if someone finds something offensive they can just right click report, move on and let it go. People don’t need to get into an argument about it

Precisely. All the tools are in the game, why stir the pot and cause fake outrage on social media?

especially the

“I wanna talk to the manager” vibes.

Which is what the discussion really is about. The OP asked if we thought it was appropriate or not to show names like this in the game and the community answered by talking about what sexualisation means to teenagers vs kids. We are not jumping at her - she presented her ideas openly and asked us how we felt about it.

I am afraid you are wrong. The Nordics, most definitely a part of Europe last time I checked, use 12 as the age above which you can watch and enjoy sexualised content, though explicit content is not allowed, 15 is when you are considered old enough for explicit content and is allowed to have sex yourself, and 18 is when you are considered legally of age and can make contracts and go to prison instead of “youth facility”.

In other words the age of sexual consent is 15 here, not 18.

But, even if the law was this simple, people are not, and that is what the ESRB rating system is for. Parents may choose to ignore it, but they do not choose to ignore it and then get to complain about others not respecting the fact that they ignored it.

Incidentally I don’t like those names, either. I think they’re stupid, I think they’re immature. I wouldn’t tolerate them on RP realms, but as you mentioned this is not an RP realm.

There’s an old song in Danish that goes something like this:
“We’re not really children, we’re not really adults - we’re both yet neither. We’re too young to love but too old to fight, nobody really needs us.”

They’re too young to love as they cannot consent and it would be very inappropriate for them to have children, yet they are too old to fight as the boys can now actually hit one another, and the girls, too, if they “fight like children” so to speak. Teenagers are most definitely not children, nor are they adults. They are in a state of transition. The show where this song came from is about 13 year old teenagers as I recall.

The laws about age of consent is not relevant to this discussion. Being unable to consent to a mortgage does not mean you are unable to understand what a booty is. The two things have nothing in common.

Where can I find this Bootyslapper character?
I think we could become friends and have fun together

we should all make similar names tbh…

including the OP… its the only way they can break out of the “im special and offended cycle”

if someone came up to me irl and said “i find the name bootyslapper offensive”

i would slap dat booty and walk off.

to think this OP had children is potentially mind blowing the whole experience must of been so offensive to them.

Someone should tell the OP that Bootyslapper means your kid has his toon dressed up as a pirate and goes around slapping their hands on the treasure chests when they find them on the map.

The fact that the OP put a sexual connotation on it speaks volumes.

This duality exists in many languages. Danish, too. The words for tax, your wife, and a treasure are all the same.

This language is, I think, created to keep this kind of language “over the children’s head” so to speak so that adults can talk about it and if the child overhears it they will not understand.

So, when a child asks this question, simply reply that the person is referring to a chest that he’s slapping after being satisfied with the day’s haul of treasures while saying “Man this chest can fit so much booty into it yarr”. x’D

Does feel like names are harder to get action against unless said person makes a bunch of people mad on their realm to focus on them.

Sadly it’s another of those things that would work better if there were GMs actually in game looking at stuff as well instead of only answering tickets in the web forum as I understand they do currently.

See what you needed there is instead of a parrot a squirrel. Until it decides to gnaw on your wooden leg of course and you suddenly topple over and crash headfirst into a pile of barrels while the squirrel chitters and sits on your chest brushing it’s face as squirrels are wont to do.

And then Donkey Kong shows up and lights all the barrels on fire.

18 is an adult in most EU member States, teenagers are not adults . And in the UK as I explained intitially.

You can even google it.

However all of this is irrelevant. See something that offends, report it.
