More of an arc wine person. I get to make fun of the nightborne so that’s a double win.
squirrels are getting bolder in my town since lockdown… wont be long now before they stage a mass takeover imo.
Honey WE are not adults in this world. What even is an adult. We’re just old teenagers.
Sorry, but I’ll choose to trust my government’s website of laws over Google.
2.1. Gældende ret vedrørende seksuel udnyttelse af børn

only as old as you feel
Legally being an adult definitely does not equal being grown up
You are confusing age of consent with being anadult?
No. You are.
i will be 40 in 4 years time and i play video games… binge watch t.v series and skateboard… lol im the definition of a adult.
Well I’m 18 then. Forever. Yes.
Thank the high heavens for that. We’d be in huge trouble.
Age of consent does not equal being an adult.
Eh, this game is for teens, they know more than “BootySlapper”.
In terms of sex, yes it does. At least here.
The reason I call you confused is that you seem to understand that being mentally adult can depend on age even though by law it does not - but apparently this does not apply below the legal age. According to you, apparently, people can only be immature for their age.
As regards to where we started, which is vulgar language, Blizzard has a policy that essentially says “We’ll do whatever the heck we want” effectively, and there is no law anywhere in Europe that protects children from slightly vulgar language like using expletives, as much as I’m sure religious conservatives would like there to be. That is a moral question left to parents.
The ESRB has designated the game as 12 years and up, warning parents of vulgar language and even warning that the game is online and has “user-generated content” in this case in the form of a character’s name.
A slightly, though not particularly, vulgar name was spotted. The parent chose to let her child play the game anyway and complains about it. Now, there are two options: Either this parent is following a UN convention which isn’t even law everywhere despite everybody agreeing to it apparently, or the parent is referring to an actual child and not merely a minor.
If it’s the first one, we’ve got that covered as there is no law against showing a 15 year old or whatever the name “BootySlapper”, and if it’s the latter one most people would never refer to a person of this age as a child. Generally, in common parlance, and you know this: A baby is about 0-3, a child is about 3-12, a teenager or adolescent is about 13-19, a “young person” is someone in the 20’s, and then we start talking real adulthood with family, but you also know that there’s a bit of wiggle room in all this.
So, the dichotomy:
- Are we talking in legality? In which case the OP has no point.
- Are we talking culturally? In which case a child and an adolescent is not the same and ESRB is helping the parent sort this out and should only be ignored at the parent’s discretion and not everybody else’s.
This game may have a PEGI/USK rating of 12, but War is not a setting for children.
The majority of this playerbase started a game in 2004 which was designed for at least 16 years old people in case of content and story. Gameplay did also reflect this to a certain degree.
Not everything needs to be a “shiny, kids-friendly flowershow” these days. We have games with very dark stories like Warhammer (Fantasy and 40k) which get more and more attention BECAUSE they focus on more adult stuff.
Most kids of my Generation played at least 1 GTA game. Parents like you complain about “bad influence from games and media” but ignore the fact that kids learn this bad behavior mainly on School Yards when talking to classmates and friends.
I still remember how on my School (which I visited and graduated from between 2011 and 2016) had very big problems with mobbing and rude behavior, including sexual words, nicknames and sometimes even violently behavior.
It is not from the games. It is not from TV or Series. Schools are the problem of that behavior, because that’s where kids learn this behavior due to Teachers failing to overcome the misbehavior at their own school and teaching them how bad such behavior is.
Edit: As I mentioned below, a PEGI/USK rating of 12 means the content of a game/show/video/movie/media/etc is meant for kids of the minimum age of 12+. It does not mean people have to behave accordingly to 12y olds behaviors in that game, unless it is explicit violating the terms of agreement and use of the owner of the medium.
What constitutes a legal adult versus what society and culture classify as an adult are vast leagues apart.
There has to be a legal standardization from a safeguarding and protection point of view, however if you really want to discuss societal and cultural views of childhood, that debate has been raging for a long time. Unfortunately for me, it’s a subject I spend a vast amount of time on at present as I am in the midst of a child development and psychology degree, and it seems as future educators this is something we should know.
Personally I don’t have a problem with people reporting something that goes against the terms set out to play the game.
However I do question if that is your level of parental view, is an MMORPG game where so much is not under your control, the appropriate place to allow your child.
Personally, I think this is an excellent social lesson, providing you are mindful of who contacts your children, the behaviour of other players is hugely informative and introduces a lot of concepts and contexts I think people need to understand. People aren’t always nice for instance, they can be mean, petty, aggressive and showcase inappropriate and politically incorrect views and opinions. How we choose to let these affect us, I think is a lesson some of us adults, still haven’t managed to master. Also any online game allows you to see how people act when they believe they are anonymous, another great lesson, perhaps we all need a lot more time considering.
I agree. A problem of my generation (1999).
Indeed. Too many teachers lack a backbone. That’s what educating the young really is about: Commanding respect. The actual subjects you teach, though important, is quite trivial. If you want to teach first graders the challenge is not teaching how to add numbers, it’s teaching some manners and getting away from the abstract and to focus their energy and attention towards something socially and culturally useful.
Then problems people have nowadays…
Humor in this day and age is dead.
Depends who named character like that.
If it’s teenager, and most likely it is, then it’s fine. I mean when i was 12yo booty slapping was one ond only thing on my mind tbh.
If it’s adult younger than idk 22 or something, then it’s not cool but it is tolerable.
If it’s 22+ person then it’s sad and pathetic tbh.
I guess Adults are not allowed to have humor, then… /s
