Lore Tidbits #6

Seeing as Lore Tidbits Thread 5 and its predecessors were frozen with the “delightful” 1 month rule on the forum, I figured I’d reincarnate it for the time being.

Tidbit time.

Draenei women fuss over the appearance of their horns, and pay particular attention to them shedding.

Furthermore, on Draenor the draenei believed the Shadowmoon Valley plant called “Youngroot” to have anti-aging properties, which supposedly might help with the aforementioned shedding. It’s never debunked or confirmed however, as the would-be salesman decides on selling adder oil with a Youngblood label instead.

No word on Youngroot existing on Azeroth for now, but the horn shedding and vanity might be useful IC.

The ultimate symbol of power amongst the Zandalari is the garb they wear in battle, and the tribe acknowledges station and power through what the Zandalari wear. The Zandalar prize what they wear as a symbol of accomplishment. One doesn’t need to be able to see what one wears to be able to sense what emanates from it - power transcends sight

Basically Zandalari trolls really put a lot of thought into what they wear in battle.

Brokers, be it knowing how lucrative it could be or just feeling festive, are helping the denizens of the Shadowlands celebrate Winter Veil. This is barely weeks after the mortals came over, so they’re on the ball.

Either that, or it possibly predates Azeroth…

Devos wears two little hats, even when you’re wailing on her. The festive cheer is universal.

Said Broker mentions Theotar organised/requested it. Theotar may have originally been from Azeroth before becoming Venthyr (my money’s on highborne elf, eccentric weirdos that they are), which could explain it.

He may have been doing little Winter Veil things for some time, but only now that the brokers are more widespread could he get the proper goods in.

Or he might have heard about it from a soul and decided it sounded pretty sweet.

Blood elves use gnome hair to make wigs. Yes. Gnome hair.

When the Goblin Grizzek Fizzwrench applied a single drop of an Azerite potion onto his bald head, he grew a thick mane of glossy black hair flowing down his back.
Before the Storm, chapter 21.

Goblin’s noses grow longer as they age.

There’s so many. These are my favourites.

The Maw Walker takes time out of his busy day to teach Theotar all about the joys of Winter Veil.

All imps are afraid of Rainbows.

Bows hadn’t been seen in Suramar for quite some time, as per dialogue of Silgryn and Victoire, who seem quite fascinated by the Night Elf Sentinels using them. Instead, they used spells (because of course!).

Something to consider when making a Nightborne hunter that’s using a ranged weapon!

Makes sense, particularly given the usual demonic aversion to Light in any form (see the quest where you secure Xe’ra’s heart in the Warlock Order Hall), and some other context bits about it we’ve gotten in gossip over the years.

Interestingly enough, Imps seem to be one of the few Legion races to have held onto their original culture via their Cups. Curious entry about them in Legion Archaeology. https://www.wowhead.com/spell=196480/imps-cup

I’ve learned a few things from the “Exploring Azeroth” novel. Well, reading the spoilers anyway. Small things include the facts that:

Stormwind Keep is kept open to the public, and always has been during the Wrynn dynasty.

The royal library is similarly open, and is a popular destination for citizens. They often read books while walking around in the keep.

Sentinel Hill is being reconstructed after the events of the Westfall questline (set immediately after the Cataclysm).

I didn’t know these two, thanks for sharing. I imagined certain individuals only could.

Poor noble RPers now have to share their precious Keep with the common folk!

I RP a Guard myself so it is a very useful piece to know!

During the first war, The Kirin Tor could have assisted Stormwind against the orcish invasion, but… They didn’t.

“The mages of Stormwind also asked [Dalaran]'s [Kirin Tor] for help but they thought the orcs little more than a local nuisance.”

This is taken from a Warcraft 2 book, which sure, technically is old lore, but nothing I found retcons it directly.

The arrogance of Dalaran and their “we’re above petty mortals” attitude keeps astounding me.

No wonder they went nuts and schizophrenic when a reasonable human woman became their leader.

They’ve had one?

Gold was a scarcity in Lordaeron even during the height of the Alliance’s power.

One of our greatest struggles is obtaining the natural resources we need to survive. Gold was scarce in Lordaeron, even in the height of the Alliance power so many years ago.

Elwynn Forest suffers from winter rains that makes the roads unsuitable for travelling.

Word of your need for a tutor for your children has traveled to me here in Goldshire, where I take up temporary residence in the Lion’s Pride Inn. Due to the unfortunate state of events in the region, I was forced to abandon my post as Headmaster of the Moonbrook Schoolhouse. Please accept my application to serve as tutor for your offspring. Headmaster Crillian of the Academy can speak to you of my abilities if necessary.
I shall travel to meet you in person when the winter rains subside and the roads are suitable for travel once again.
