Losing motivation to play

I’m having an urge to make an alt to experience everything again with different gameplay, but this won’t get me to the endgame.

The problem is what is there exciting to look forward after lvl 40?

30-40 was already a long grind, now I see myself doing the routine quests over and over, kill that, loot that and the zones aren’t that rich of rewarding quests compared to beginner zones. Grinding dungeons isn’t that exciting too since there isn’t really anything I’m looking forward to receive as loot at this lvl.

I know the goal should be to get to 60, but what then? Grinding dungeons and raids over and over?

tl;dr need inspiration

Found the quest zones in higher level to be more fun than the lower zones. Also at 50+ the instances become nicer and you can slowly start to focus on collecting your pre raid gear.

Also, do you have sword PvE spec? I started with dagger and more of a PvP spec out of habbit, but switched to PvE swords (after way to long) and leveling speed and dungeon dps went up quite a bit.

I don’t wanna be a typical forum poster… But you ask “what is there exciting to look forward after lvl 40” well in that sence, nothing.
WoW classic is once again a World of Warcraft, and just in any real world, there isn’t much excitement. You and yourself only must make it excited.

Don’t let lvl60 be your only goal, if so your game will be hollow very fast. Personnaly i’m only lvl54-55 at this moment (had a 31 day break due to holiday tho) But i really dont rush to get to raid a.s.a.p.

for me the exciting things are the community and the “new” discoveries i make every day, when just walking/questing in zones

If you really want to be entertained from start to finish (and after finish) Well really i think you should go to Retail for that? There you will find new and exciting things all the time, way less meaningfull than the 1 or 2 exciting things you (in your lvl range) can experience now in Classic. Sorry to say it.

Why should you level an alt to higher than 40 if that’s where the fun stops? Nobody forces you to. Level a zillion alts to 39 if you like, and leave them sitting there until you get the mojo again for higher level contents

You always have to have something to look forward to. Like getting to a certain level to do a new dungeon, get a new useful ability, equipping a nice piece of gear you’ve got. I think it’s typical for a lot of people to lose their motivation shortly after 40, because they’ve been longing for mount a long time, and when they finally get it, they have no new goal to strive for.

Hm. Some goals I could think of for you is getting to around 44 or so and start doing ZF, which at least according to me, is a very fun dungeon. I also like questing in Feralas and doing the Hinterlands grind, which I usually do in my 40s. Those are just a few examples, but I hope you can come up with something. When you’re 45 you might look forward to 50, and when you’re 50, well, you’re so close to 60 that you just have to pull through!

The thing that keeps vanilla fun for me is the PvP tbh, looking forward to both phase 2 and 3 for that.

I would never play vanilla just for the pve, the raids are way to easy and stale for that, they are just a means to get some pvp gear for me.

You’re right of course. Personally I’m looking forward to AV. Some of the most fun I’ve had on pservers was when AV was released.

If 30-40 was a long grind for you its just that you arent very experienced at the game. Im rly looking forward to play wow as a power point presentation for world bosses in p2

Space goats are your motivation.

you’re probably loosing motivation because once the nostalgic appeal fades away you realize the game’s boring as hell and takes sinking hours of your life into it to get anywhere.

I’m in the same boat as OP, except in my case I’m nearly 60, and feel utterly demotivated to farm dungeons and/or raids. I do enjoy highly enjoy PvP though, but as someone said above, you kind of need the gear to do it, esp when P2 comes.

I dont think “To get 60” is the correct goal to have fun in this game. Imho, the only right way to play classic is to relax and just play. Like you do not rush, you read the quests, you’re exploring the world. You say “shut up” to all who is telling about “effective levelling” or “the fastest way to get to 60” and all these things.

There is complex world with lots of lore and wonderful stories, with great economics system, with lots of nice people. Honor system is coming and it’ll bring lots of action too. So, it is not necessary to get the highest level as_fast_as_you_can. For me It’s like eating delicious food as fast as you can, or having sex as fast as you can. Why not to enjoy?

Maybe it is not the way to play for everyone, but I’m pretty new to WoW and it works fine for me. On lvl 50, I’m still loving this game.

Frankly, it sounds like Classic just isn’t your thing. If you really hate levelling post 40, can’t bear the thought of doing it again, and don’t enjoy Classic dungeons you need to think about why you’re playing.

Your progress won’t disappear as in retail.
Try other class, prepare for twinks or smth.
Im leveling up few classes at same time, depending what level friend is online,so we can play together . When will hit 60, alts will support my main. Will do some raiding for pure purpose - end game pvp.

I believe that the OP highly dislikes the idea of farming dungeons repetitively in order to gain 1 specific drop and that in it’s turn (presumably) demotivates him from getting to 60.

I can relate to an extent. Farming dungeons and/or raids is among the most boring things to do in WoW.

If you don’t enjoy questing in the world, don’t enjoy the dungeons, and have nothing to aim for or look forward to - then maybe the game is not for you.

Without sounding rude, there is no point playing a game if you do not enjoy it. There’s no new features gonna be added other than PVP which it doesn’t sound like you care about.

You dont need much gear for pvp. Especially as hunter. this early in the game, gear matters the least. Just get some randon 55+ blues, get a solid ranged weapon and you are set. If you pvp enough, gear will come on its own

Indeed. I play to 40 with instances then
Ditch it and make more chars. I can barely log in to 58 to finish those 2 levels

Why are you posting on the Classic forums? You don’t belong here… get runnin’.

Don’t make me call the dog.
