Mac pro on m1.
Stuck on initialising and multiply agents issue.

  1. Installed wow classic on windows pc
  2. Copied World of Warcraft folder to mac
  3. Provided all right to this folder (properties → … → apply to all nested objects)
  4. Successfully installed classic into this copied folder.
  5. Successfully installed retail.

Thx, this method seems to be working. After applying your changes to the folder, single agent is running normally without any error messages. I’ve given full disk access to both agent and battle.net apps too, not sure it made a difference though.

Glad to hear it helped!
Tried lots of methods, but without windows pc it was just impossible.
Backed up wow classic folder in case of further problems. (classic just because of 5Gb size)

Not sure if its mac os of blizz fault.

Omg it finally worked! If i am not wrong what i did was something like:

  1. i paused the button while it was “intializing”
  2. killed all Agent processes
  3. deleted the Agent folder /Users/Shared/Battle.net/Agent
    The button become “Install”
  4. Start install
    …it worked

I also already had “Full disk permissions” in Security settings for Agent and Battle.net - I don’t know if this is needed.

After a few hours of the agent deleting for me worked next:

  1. Install Battle.net
  2. Try to install WoW Classic - it provides the same error.
  3. Delete the Agent folder
  4. Try the update again Classic
  5. When loading of the Classic starts press pause
  6. Switch to Dragonfly client choosing and press install
  7. Loading starts.

Thanks a lot! This worked for me as well.

M1 Max MacBook Pro 14”

For what it’s worth, I had exactly the same issues detailed above when installing a fresh copy of WoW - I tried EVERYTHING suggested with no success (even full factory reset of the machine, different backdated OS, etc) and was about to fully give up.

I just went to do a final “screw it” test after what seems like hundreds of fresh re-installs of battle.net and it WORKED - the ONLY thing I did differently this time (besides allowing full disk permissions to Battle.net and Agent) is I happened to be downloading a game on Steam at the same time as I started the WoW download.

No quitting the Agent processes, no deleting the Agent folder, just the above. I was shocked! Maybe it’s completely unrelated but the game went on to be playable and is downloading in the background.

If you’re at your wit’s end, try it just in case it works. Best of luck.

Apple M1 Pro (14-inch, 2021)

Same issue here, battle.net spawns child Agent processes that consume 100% CPU and the update/install isn’t happening. Finally, it throws a BLZBNTAGT0000138F error.

Had same issue on a new MBP 2023 (14" M2) - fortunately I had already installed WOW retail on my previous MacBook Air and was able to copy over the 90gb installation folder from that via USB. Battle Net beta was then able to locate the install files and launch the game. Nothing else was working. I’m guessing but think at some point Blizzard must have pushed out an incorrect Battle Net update for Mac, which is clearly bugging out when trying to download a fresh install. Frustrating and needs fixing or otherwise they need to pull the Mac version to avoid potential mis-selling complaints.

I feel that’s “new” Blizzard’s plan …

Microsoft wants Macs out of “their” games.
It already pi**** me off, when they kicked Macs out of Overwatch with OW2 (and OW2 really isn’t so different or better than the first version).
Now it seems they want to do the same to the Mac-WoW-Players.

Sure, I also have a PC/Desktop for playing WoW, but being able to play “on the go” with a laptop, without causing a fire by overheating or sounding like a jetengine was quite nice …

Hello, could you please also add me? I sent you an invite in Discord from 901#5325

Help, does anyone have the files Girodo referenced in their comment?

Has anyone found a fix for this issue? I cant download Classic Era or even Wrath Classic bc of this. Always an error and multiple Agents running about to mess my computer.

Guys I had same issue, after long time of trying I make it work, but only with files from windows computer, I copied not all files from data, only 2 folders inside Data folder - config and indices, I think if spend some time I can find exectly file or group of files that needed, but I don’t think that I will have it. Hope this helps, Blizzard fix it please, I’m developer and don’t think that this is a huge bug then can’t be resolved if it rely on some files, It’s event not premissions, because I removed Battle net app and Agent from full disc permissions. I don’t understand why it take so long to fix. I see only one reason - you don’t want to fix this because you don’t care about Mac users at all

Hey Blizzard, I’ve assisted approximately 100 individuals on Discord using files from my own server. When can I expect compensation for aiding your customers in playing your games? /s

The new Battle.net launcher version (2.24.0.14336) has introduced yet another issue, so you might encounter an error message during installation using my files.

Should you run into an error during the installation process stating there are permission issues, here’s a heads-up: The Battle.net installer modifies the access permissions of the «Data» folder twice – at the outset and again mid-installation. Just reset these permissions to «Read & Write» for all users (You, staff, and everyone) each time.

You can find the data folder in: Application > World of Warcraft. Press cmd + i on the Data folder and change the permissions.

IMPORTANT: It also can occur that the folders in «Data» also have permission issues (config, data, and indices). You also need to check them.

It’s so poorly programmed that the installer restricts its own access rights mid-install.

I suspect Blizzard might have let go of their dedicated Mac developers, perhaps as a part of their rumored shift in focus. Now, it seems as though developers more accustomed to Windows platforms might be behind the macOS launcher. Given the persistent issues for the past two months, this theory seems plausible to me, because it doesn’t even make sense to me, why the launcher needs to change permission settings.

It’s baffling to see a launcher not work properly for so long, preventing many Mac players from enjoying their games.

Hi everyone,

I’m not sure if this will be helpful, but I had the same issues when trying to install WoW on my MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro. After many attempts, it finally installed correctly and now I can play. However, I didn’t try anything specific to make it work. I encountered many fails during the installation process, and during one attempt it simply showed “update…” and that seemed to do the trick.

I hope this information helps in finding a solution to the problem.

I can confirm this is the only working solution, I’ve been messing with permissions for a while with no results, but copying these 2 subfolders of WoW Data folder from windows to mac launched the installation process correctly.

Just for info: For one player WoW classic always crashed while trying to start. I found out he is using macOS Sonoma. WoW Classic is not yet ready for Sonoma. Only try to install the games on Ventura.

Sent you a request on Discord. Could you accept it please

Same problem ( or similar I should say ) on macbook air m1 ventura 13.4

When I download battle.net, it installs.

Then it tries to install WOW but it gets stuck on 88mb and then creates a wow folder and I realize under applications, there are 2 Battle.net and 2 Agent icons (Agent icons are same with battle net icons)
Thats probably where the problem occurs.

Rest is same, it says initializing but does not go through.

Re-install, delete all, install, restart whatever. Doesnt work.

Not sure whats going on but it sure is frustrating.

Does anyone has a solution for sure yet or we waiting for Blizzard officials to take a deep look at it?
