Mac issues - CRASHING, LAGGING AND STUTTERING AFTER 8.3

Okay off we go again.

Tried to do todays emissary. Started with the “labyrinth with mini shellie”, two 15 sec freeze occurred, avoid crash. Manage to complete the “fill AP bar from mobs” + kill 2 named mobs. Went back to Boralus, 10 seconds in there, a huge freeze and crashed.

I had hopes when I saw the update but yet the issue is not solved.

Hello everyone, same problem since 3 days ago, when the 8.3 came out … Freeze screen then crash after 5 or 6 Freeze …
Before 8.3 I had no problem at all

Hi, my Macbook Pro has been crashing and lagging since the latest update. I’ve tried all of the blizzard guidelines which could help to improve the performance but they didn’t.
I even tried to play in windows mode but that didn’t help either  all graphics settings are set to lowest, resolution lowest but still, mostly, when I enter dungeons i can expect a crash at any point and have to restart my mac. Even in open world where there are more players and we are attacking some mobs or just casually playing (farming etc) - mac crashes or a hard lag for few seconds follows.
Now the game is completely unplayable :frowning:
I didn’t have those problems on patch 8.2 and 8.2.5. The game ran smoothly without problems.

Specs
13inch Macbook Pro early 2015
macOS Catalina
version 10.15.2
processor 2,9GHz Dual-core Intel core i5
memory 8gb DDR3
Graphics Intel Iris Graphics 6100

Please help!
Thanks

CHANGES: With the update to 8.3.0 the infamous freezes/crashes started happening. It is tough to say whether it is affected by the intensity of the graphics. I have been playing on very low setting for a long time.

SPECIFICS: The entire computer freezes for 3-10 sec, then a frame from about 30 sec ago flashes on the screen and screen defreezes into the normal state again. From time to time these freezes will result in Mac crashing.

SPECS: MacBook Pro (13-Inch, 2016)

  • 2,9 Ghz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
  • 16GB
  • Intel Iris 550 1536MB

ADDITIONAL: Looking through the reports, I see that it forced my GPU to reset.

Scheduler: Apple FirmwareMultiple channels per index

Processing hang for hardware context ID[363]

– Summary of Status for ALL Rings –
RCS Ring is: - busy - in a batch buffer <-- Appears hung
VCS Ring is: - NOT enabled - idle
BCS Ring is: - NOT enabled - idle
VECS Ring is: - NOT enabled - idle

I have copied my crash reports, so ping me if further information from my machine is needed.

Have system crashing or WoW hard freezing since 8.3 launch.

System spec:

  • 2.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
  • 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
  • Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 1536 MB

Problem is not in addons or game files, since this copy of game is working perfectly on iMac w/ Quad-core i5 and discrete video.

Crash report: pastebin. com/5SYYjdYa

So I have checked and it does seem like we do have an issue with MACs currently that is being investigated and fixed, it’s causing FPS drops, crashes and other such problems for people.

It seems to be an issue with some of the changes to WoW Settings in the patch and there is a possible workaround I have seen that changing to DirectX11 may work. We have an open topic on this here.

Experiencing minor freezes in all zones of the game, but dramatic freezes + crash inside Halls of Originations scenario.

Can’t get past step 7, huge freezes start at step 6 with beams and finally crashes at step 7 when boss appears. Tested multiple times without addons, with windowed/not windowed.
Tested on Mojave and after on Catalina after system update.

This is an issue that’s been reported on mac forum US (although no blue answer for hours) but strangely, nothing here in EU
Pls blue answer because this is really frustating to have to know this kind of problem on a patch release day.

Thanks for your support

same issue, only works with dx11 legacy but its a huge fps drop.

Same issue here (MB Pro 2017). Intermittent freezes in dungeons as well as during open world questing. Whole system froze and crashed twice.

Tried playing around with graphics settings, it did not help. I suspect it could be a memory leak.

Hopefully this gets addressed. As pointed out by OP, there is a topic on this on US forums as well.

Update: Removing all add-ons did not help either, same issues, one thing I noticed is that now I get a freeze (6-8 seconds) almost instantly upon logging in to the game world.

Same here on macOS Catalina, Version 10.15.2

Had minor spikes in open world in 8.2 but that was maybe 2-3 per day, very acceptable.

But here it speeded up. Cant even play the game now. Every 20 sec the game freezes, the freeze last another 15-20 seconds, exactly the same spot as the OP. Cant get pass step 7 of the HoO intro 8.3 quest.

Any ideas except deleting old addons / restart the game and app?

Thanks for the update Ixthocaesil. Im glad this is being looked into.

I tried change DirectX11 but the only option I have there is “Metal” on the Graphics API.

Macs don’t use any form of DirectX. That’s a Windows-only thing.

Anyway, I’m glad this is being looked into. Currently it’s a showstopper; hard to understand why it wasn’t picked up in testing.

@ Kayte

Oh didn’t know. Thanks for clearing that out for me.

@ Esentela

Hey there. No Im afraid not… Just tried some content earlier today but its unplayable. Ended in a Freehold and froze for 15 seconds each pull we made. Gave it up for today already. Im waiting for the complete fix.

I have the exact same issue as you, and the same macbook. Have you maybe already found a solution?

Greetings

it feels like nobody is even caring that this problem exists

I contacted CS on Twitter and they answered me shortly after. They are aware of the problem and working on it.

I have the same issue, I’m on an Imac 2018 updated with Catalina.
Problems started after the 8.3 patch -.-
Spoke to a gm that said that they are trying to figure out where the problem is but I get the feeling that they don’t want to fix the issue as fast as if it would have been on a windows OS.
I hope Blizzard fix this issue asap cause I have lost 2 Vessel of the horrific vision because of this freezing issue, but they will not compensate for that I lost them. :rage:

Same thing everywhere. They definitely did not test this properly on a mac…
But why would they, no refunds, we are all screaming in the desert. I could cancel my subscription, but to what end - this they know…
