Massive FPS Drops.. game's stuttering, nothing works

just passing by to bump this,BLIZZARD FIX YOUR STUTTERY GAME.

Stuttering still present.

It’s not reasonable to expect us to continue playing with sound disabled to make the game perform properly on high end PC’s. It really is embarrassing for Blizzard that this problem has been present and reported for so long without a fix.

Is it a $$$ issue? Maybe you should start a paypal donation page to allow for hiring someone who’s capable of reviewing, debugging and optimising the code?

It’s the game, not on our end. Disabling sound does nothing on all the systems I’ve tested at work with Intel/AMD/Nvidia GPU and AMD/Intel CPU, having Windows 10, 11, Linux or macOS on them with the same stutters and lower fps that didn’t exist before the pre-patch hit.

Ok after much troubleshooting i have finally found a fix to my game. This fix has stopped my fps from tanking to unplayable levels. I can now use sound with no issues and the micro stuttering has been fixed. The game is how it felt before the prepatch !

The Geforce experience optimal settings have not been updated to Dragonflight requirements ! It seems to be using the settings from some time before not sure when but do not use these settings for DF as the will cause a memory leak issue to occur ! Hopefully Blizzard can talk with nvidia and update the optimal settings for this expansion.

Adjusting the overall graphical settings to 4 has made the game playable with framerates in excess of 120 fps in openworld and 40 - 50 fps in densely populated areas which is fine for me. This has eliminated the memory leak issue and so far i have not encountered anymore crashes !

In regards to the micro stuttering when navigating open world and the other issue of FPS tanking to unplayable levels randomly occuring since prepatch i fixed this by doing the following.

Open CMD as administrator in windows and type sfc /scannow after the scan it revealed several errors which it fixed. After this i used DDU to remove graphics drivers in safe mode and reinstalled the current drivers.

Since then everything is running fine but i have gone from playing on Graphics quality 10 in Shadowlands with max settings to Quality 4 in DF.

I know these steps will not help everyone but for me it has fixed all the issues i was having and i am able to play the game again for now. If after a week or two im still playing without issue i will remove some of my posts from earlier on so not to confuse people.

Yet another usless theoretical solution how to fix game broken by Blizzard. My Windows had no corrupted files from months and what about people who doesn’t use Geforce Experience or are on different OS or GPU.

Did a mythic+ today and the volcanic was hitting my FPS hard. Intended affix?

Well its not useless for me as i can play the game as it was since before DF prepatch albeit with slightly downgraded graphics which is hardly noticeable. Anyway been playing all day now without any problems so far which is great, Toodles.

And there we have it folks. Don’t take my word for it, after testing 40+ PCs at work that we never ship off it they have benchmark/overheating issues etc etc.

Can confirm. No stuttering with sound OFF.
I just tested stuttering in Valdrakken with sound off, no issues. Found a big rare with loads of people (sound off) no stuttering.
Something is off with sound.

If disabling sound helps, you got issues with CPU overhead.

Disabling sound “fix” stuttering for me as well and for many other people. This can’t be coincidence. Are you going to blame our hardware right now like Pawgwalker? Come on man.

No, all I’m saying on 40+ systems I’ve tested it has no effect. I assume we’re not talking about micro stutters?

No I’m talking about massive stutters that everyone is experiencing since pre patch.

A lot of people in the thread mentioned turning sound off fixes the stuttering problem, so no it’s not -my- CPU that is a problem.

It still doesn’t get rid of the freezes upon login / entering the world sadly.

I think the freeze on login is to apply current hotfixes in RAM and will go away once they permanently update the actual game files of the current version, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about that. It’s relatively normal in early stage of new expansion and will stop as things settle down with less large hotfixes being required.

Disabling sound effects fixes the stuttering for me too and having a 5800X3D + 3080TI + 128GB of RAM I doubt it’s simply a CPU overhead issue.

As I said on another thread the best example I can give is opening the talents window. With sound effects on this causes a noticeable (4-10) frames drop every time, but zero frames drop with sound effects disabled. And the exact same sound is played when opening the character info window which produces zero frames drop with sound effects on or off.

So it’s not simply the playback of that actual sound that’s causing the problem, it’s something different in how they’re sending that call to the sound playback code or more likely how the sound code is differently handling and allocating resources to that call.

Same problem on MacBook Air M1 16gb

Turning sounds off solves the issue. If I open the talent tree it always drops 2-5 FPS as mentioned before. It must be sth with the code itself if Windows and Mac OS have the same exact issue.

I can’t even afk in cities anymore. Constant freezing and lagging show. Even in Stormwind! I have to fly away on a really high mountain from the city and sit there, because there is no a single stutter over there :joy:

Update, my last post was deleted by Blizz…Just to say the fix that i stated earlier was only temporary…i managed playing the game for an entire day without issue then all the problems came back in the evening. Micro stuttering, major stuttering, performance hits and i mean down to 15 to 20 fps on Graphics quality 4…although this happens less often as it use to happen before i could only play for 15 mins or so before the fps started tanking…No… the new major thing now is the memory leaks which are happening more frequently now. Anyways, Valdraken is terrible now even on the lowest of graphical settings its just a stuttering mess.

I`m pretty much done trying to trouble shoot the problem its definitely on Blizzards end. I tried playing with sound off but its not making my issues go away.

I w`ont say anything too negative as blizz will mute me again so all i say is i am hugely disappointed with blizzard, the expansion has been a complete disaster for me.

I made a ticket regarding stutters. Also asked about freezes at launch we experiencing now. This is the answer:

Thank you for contacting us. My name is Rado and I will be taking care of your request today.

I’m sorry to hear about technical issues you currently experience in World of Warcraft. As I play the game myself I know this can be frustrating and I wanted to let you know that we checked this further for you now and while we don’t have a direct solution for you at this time I was able to confirm that WOW developers are aware of both issues you reported to us in this ticket.

The new issue with game freeze at launch is something what should be resolved soon after the holiday season but stuttering is more complicated and requires more teams and time to investigate.

At least they admit it’s on their end, but tbh I’d take that login freeze every day of the year, if the stutters would get resolved.
