BDKs are fine for most content? Just can’t run in blind into three packs, you’ll get one-shot.
And Holy Priest is just a whole story on its own. Every time we take one, it goes well until there’s stuff that needs to be avoided for a significant duration → thus movement → thus can’t cast much → trouble. Holy Priests just are terribly designed for the current content. That has nothing to do with the meta.
If you wait a long time in the quew as a DPS its because there are not enough tank and healers. Or your rio sucks too much and should take smaller steps.
The only people gatekeeping in M+ are the swathes of Ret paladins that refuse to play anything else other than DPS, even though its just 1 click away in the talent tree.

It’s a free market, the community decides. I’m not the architect of this situation, but it has always existed. Why were there so many warrior/mage dps in vanilla? Because they were busted and people play/invite the most busted.

BDKs are fantastic tank for lower keys, and are my top #1 favorite tank in that content. They can carry a lot of stuff on their own, and its like healing on vacation: i only have to take care of 4 people. And when I drop a Link, the tank heals the party for me.
In higher keys I hate BDKs. With all my soul. I prefer to have BM tank than a BDK to be honest. Its simply the worst.
Its a shame though… this black and white situation of BDKs. They have been in this situation for a long time, and I wish blizz would fix it (toguether with BM monk).
Well, yeah, that’s kind of the nature of how BDKs work. At some point the input becomes just too much, really. Then a heavy armor tank, stagger tank, or alike, is indeed much better.
Yeah but the fact that its not important for the 99.9% of people dosent mean its not something worthy of change.
But to be honest, BDK and BM tank re-works should come hand in hand with an overall standarization of defensives (DR and shields), and healer power in general (we ALL need CD and DR pruning).
Because its part of the same problem: DR gains value in higher keys and is absolutely useless in lower keys, vs, shields and self-heal loose power in higher keys but are OP in lower keys.
Sure. Absolutely. But it’s also been proven that balancing BDK is extremely difficult. Either they struggle relatively early on, or they can’t die. Middle-ground doesn’t seem to exist.
And since M+ has a bit of an endless nature, perhaps the balance need to happen on a per-M±bracket level. But that’s gonna be complex.
It works like that because gatekeepers like you make it work like that. It’s not “just the way it is”, it’s the way you want it to be. And that’s why it’s broken.

Correct. There are certain mechanics that simply cannot find a good balance. Mathematically.
Basically, this is the problem with BDK:
And that is a problem that goes beyond tanks. It’s healers (Oracle Priest) and DDs as well, because not all raid buffs and defensive CDs are made equal. -40% DR def CD is not the same as a shield for 40% of your HP for example.
All that should get a comprehensive re-work for all specs and rolls. But BDK and BM monk specifically should get a more in-depth rework.
