Yes, and it will not work as long as Blizzard relies on a system that is used by the community. The upvote/downvote system was the same, that was just more visible. Their only solution to have a proper forum would be hiring more moderators who enforce the actual rules of the forum. Right now most of the time it feels like the forum users created their own rules and there are no consequences to being offensive.
That’s what i tried to answer in my first comment as well. My answer to that is yes (but its mostly about their views), because if people would only flag those comments that actually break the rules, then there wouldn’t be so many comments that gets unflagged by the moderators. Which means that there was nothing wrong with those comments, some people were just annoyed by it because that’s not what they think.
I only saw one case where it was something personal trolling. One guy created a thread, there was nothing wrong it, 1-2 minutes later with barely any views on that thread, it was “hidden by the community”.
That’s what you can expect from this community, people will do all kind of stuff, like kick you from grp just because it’s fun to kick you, Blizzard is ok with that, they could even make achievements like “kicked X many players”.
Whilst I agree with what you are saying here I don’t think that hiring enough moderators to be able to read every single post and comment would be anywhere cost effective for the tiny minority of bad posts that we get.
I am a fairly active member on a number of different fora and I know of none that do it this way with most either going for a mixture of unpaid moderators with a few paid staff or as we have it here, a few paid staff and the ability of the forum members to flag posts which need moderator attention.
The fact that most of the flagged messages I see on these forums are, in my opinion, entirely justified in why they are flagged says to me that the system is largely working as intended. Yes, there are the odd posts here and there which have been unjustly flagged, I have even had a few myself, but these are the exception I feel and something which is always going to happen in such situations.
I agree and this is what I was trying to say is that it needs to be tracked. So if the same players are constantly using the flagging system to do this, then the Moderators should be able to see this and maybe punishments allocated to the flaggers would stop this abuse. Maybe this isn’t possible, to be fair I don’t know.
Doesnt work like that the more you get banned the longer the next one is .
My last one was 3 months but reduced under appeal as i was multi flagged but a user on alts and accounts.
If i get banned again its perm but the do ware off over time you just need to watch what you post.
I did apologise to you in other thread how it all ended up , that day was very silly on all sides so i apologise again for words side but you did blame the wrong person twice but it looks like its been sorted out now between you too.
As for me i always tell people they been flagged and why i have done it . I know i am hated on these forums but that will not stop me voicing my view .
Niv you can be a major pain but i have seen a different side to you a nicer and fun side just remember to find out facts before pulling the trigger like some around here do far to quick to blame without listening to reason first.
So i hope you accept my apology and i hope you apologised twice to another poster for blaming them when it wasnt she deserves one .
You have claimed to be smarter then others, why should I explain it?
Tell me, how do you think a thtreat normally is?
Please explain to me in detail how a smart person perceive a threat?
Ooooh, I can feel this is gonna be a good one
I don’t blame you, but I will never give you a serious answer either.
Show me you are capable to debate properly, and you will get a real debate with fair and good answers - answers that will satisfy that “enormous intellect” you posses
It was. As usual, and you are not different than others from your “species”, instead to answer to a question with a answer, you answer with a question. This is a classic “strategy” of people who are unable to answer a simple question.
And to add more “point” to your argument, you “deflect” your answer to “kiddo style” attacks against the person who contradicts you. Here are some examples:
Don’t worry…you proved what a person you are: a person with delayed development and progress. (google it for the short version).
And to answer to your attack: yes i am capable to debate properly . The question is: are you?
And to make it easier for you, i will remake my previous question:
How a post/comment in a forum can be a real life threath to others? How can you harm physically someone on a forum by posting/commenting something?
Because in my point of view and according to the english language dictionary (and also police), “real life threath” means a threath that can damage you physically or even bring you death.
So can you explain it?
At least if you would be a Troll, i would belive. Maybe you would write some Vodoo incantations and i would start bleeding from my ears while i would write a reply.
Please teach me how to physically harm people by only writing comments. I got a few on my list i need to sort out.
OMG, is this thread still going? I know entertainment is hard to come by now we’re all on the dregs of Netflix, but seriously you must have something better to do.
Edit: Sorry, was tired and in bad mood. When I wrote the above. Please ignore my rudeness.
If you are not interested in the thread, then of course you don’t have to comment.
But this I find offensive, there are many threads which I would call inane, but they do also seem to go on forever, do you post such comments in these also?
You could have read and moved on ,you are better than that.
You are being aggersive to the wrong person Moo didnt attack you in any shape or form .
They are one of the most liked and respected posters on the forum.
Get to know people before lashing out and chill out and deep breathe.
Just pointing out that would be the same species as you belong to.
Actually an accepted form of socratic or indeed philosophical debate. It is a ‘classic’ strategy, in the sense that it originated in the ‘Classical’ era, and is widely understood as a cornerstone of western philosophy, so moving on…
You seem to think you are very smart, without actually having evinced any proof or examples in discussion which would give credence to this, yet are very keen to call other people ‘backwards’ Just wondering if we will see any examples of this towering intellect which you claim is 10X better than a doctorate for example. We have yet to see this, any example of this undoubtedly terrifying intellect which would by your own definition dwarf that of Einstein and Hawking combined would be a sight of awe to behold, I am sure we would all agree?
This then beggars the question, when will you start to?
Actually a person could do that rather easily. One could rather easily make a post on the internet resulting in someone’s demise.
Actually that is not the police force of any constabulary in the UK’s definition at all, so you are telling porkie pies there, aren’t you?
Really?
Good grief, Really?
Well, a threat written, or expressed, with a promise or hint of remuneration in the future is classifiable as evidence. People can and have been arrested on the grounds of ‘Internet Contracts’, some even convicted, if there is sufficient link between threat and actual violence, you could indeed find yourself in rather hot water.
And this is the reason why posts or comments are flagged and people are muted. Because of people like you who take sides and ignores facts for “feelings”. So let me explain you the system:
A very “most liked and respected poster on this forum” makes a ridiculous statement:
A curious person (me), who can’t belive how such a “liked and respected poster” can make such a “comical” statement, asks out of curiosity how a comment can become a “real life threat” .
The awesome “liked and respected poster” starts then to bash me by attacking me personally, mocking my “smartness” and “forgets” to answer the simple question given before.
Then me, the “innocent victim” (that’s funny actually) replies back with the “same coin” :
I think it’s fair? Right?
Then, the third person (you) enter into the conversation and takes side for the awesome “liked and respected poster” , ignores all facts (stupid statement + that his “liked and respected poster” started first his attacks) just because you guys are “imaginary friends” in a forum (aka feelings) and starts to bash me for no reason.
Now, the only missing thing in this ecuation is the : flagging. I am surprised how you didn’t flagged me yet…but maybe it’s not too late.
And here is a clear “real life example” that explains perfectly the entire topic of this post.
If Moothilda has such a “hostile” fanbase, i don’t want to imagine a MVP.
Just pointing out that i was speaking “metaphorically”.
Actually i don’t care. I’m a straightforward person: i ask a question i want a answer. I receive a question i give a reply. Simple as that.
If i would come on forum and i would say that the earth is flat and that the sun spins around the earth, everyone would laugh and mock me. She said something similar in my opinion: a stupid and ridiculous statement. I wanted a explanation because i am curious how people can be so “awesome”.
That’s a very “diplomatic” way to call me idiot. I like your style. I’ll give you a like for this comment.
I must admit that english is not my native language (i learned it from games and movies and youtube) and therefor my “way” to express myself is much limited because of that.
I don’t claim that i’m smart, but i know one thing: when i brag with my “smartness” i piss people off. And the purpose is to piss people off and see their reactions. I like to play a lot with human psichology.
And speaking about smartness, i find quite funny what language and arguments you have. You use a “elevated” and “posh style” language, you give quotas and examples about Socrate , WW2 and philosophy and so on. And what is funny is that you do this on a forum where 60% of the users are factory workers with barely highschool finished. So i don’t know who is the one who wants to prove his “smartness” …me or you? And to who?
Demise is a very “blurry” word. From demise to physical harm or death is a very long way. And what you talk about are things where for example hackers hack your “personal life” and threaten you to expose your secrets unless you pay them or what-ever. But from a forum conversation to that situation is a very long “distance”.
So, i see you are a very smart person. Can you explain in details what that “demise” means for you and how it could happen?
When they speak on the radio and say : “real life threat situation” they speak about forum quarrels between kids or a really “real life threat”?
Then let’s make it more simple:
Let’s ask Moothilda to give us “such a example” (a screenshot of that post/comment) that she flagged and that person was proven to be a criminal and was arrested or convicted (obviously a proof of the arrest or conviction). And if she brings both proofs, i retract everything i written before and also i make a public apology.
I don’t want to be rude, but you “derailed” quite a lot from the common sense. What you tell me are “almost impossible scenarios” that could happen on this forum, yet you try to prove me wrong. To give you the benefit of a doubt, we wait for Moothilda’s answer.
P.S.: just out of curiosity, i wrote “real life threat meaning” on google. The first links, all said the same thing: “capable to bring physical harm or death” .
It doesn’t need to be grouping up. It’s enough if a user has a “fanbase” , who don’t care for facts, they care just the “feelings”, like that Daestra and boom, post flagged. They don’t need to group and decide together to flag someone, because they already have the idea from start to defend their “master”.
Or there can be the other option where some people have these “preconceptions” about different topics (ex: those snowflakes that cry that flying should be removed, because it ruins the game) and they just flag a post because in their point of view, your opinion is totally wrong and you deserve to be silenced for that.
This is a very biased opinion. Many posts/comments (including some of mine), didn’t had offensive language, yet they where flagged.
Very offensive for me it means personal insults and very rude words (like f off, your mama is like that and that and so on). And most of the flagged posts didn’t contained “very offensive language” .
Because it is in the human nature to “teach others a lesson” . Humans like to punish other humans. Even if it is for “nothing” …they do it just because they can and because the option is available (the flag/report button).
That’s almost every “well known” poster on this forum who is not an MVP. Most of the time i saw them arguing with someone they are just being sarcastic and talk down to others.
Well, no offense, but it was funny. I needed to be a bit sarcastic when i hear a statement like that. And when someone says a “stupidity” like that, “talking down” is the expected reply. We agree?
Don’t worry i understand you, feelings are more important than logic.
How funny how everyone attacks me, but nobody tries to explain Moothilda’s ridiculous statement…
And you know why i attacked her statement? To prove the “snowflake attitude” in people. How they like to exagerate in their behaviour.
If she woulded say something like this : “i flag anyone who i consider it is a bully” , i would not even reply. But when you go from a “internet trolling” to exagerations like “real life threats”…then you need to explain yourself.
Btw, the earth is really flat.
P.S.: out of curiosity, why Kyrel comment was flagged? What he did wrong?
it’s 2020 my dude, having an opinion different than one, may result in said one flagging you as offensive, especially if you corner him with common sense or basic truth/fact.
