If that works out well for them, which it seems to do, then why not? I don’t think Swar’jan lives in a cave, though.
Why spend time, energy and materials on a building when there’s a perfectly good cave right there?
It’s genius really. Ogres are very forward thinking beings.
Because the word civilization come itself from the fact you have actually build cities
And 2 representatives arent enought to talk about a whole race most of the ogres still say “me kill you haaaaa” when you aggro =p
But we weren’t talking about a whole race.
Besides, again, those two were the first to come to mind, not the sole intelligent ogres.
Elenthas said that blizzard stripped away those interesting aspects when they made the zandalari playable and I was wondering what aspects he was referring to.
I have no idea what he is talking about because you have cool racials as zandalari which requir you to go pray the loa you want to get blessing of which is verry unique and cool and it show the special link between zandalari and loa i mean if this is not enought to feel like you are zandalari well i dont know its just same for any other races even the core ones
i’m afraid that as a non-ADer you simply don’t have enough IP (Immersion Points) to truly grasp the issue ta Zolanji
Well, my Immersion is to walk around in Zuldazar and stuff because i mean its also what is awesome with mogu is that they have ton of big buildings which arent full of mobs mostly in vale and some secrets places and the wall when you can just chill as a mogu and say well thats my place and chill out with friends i dont get in which way Immersion is messed up with zandalari you are just maing something up here
PS : what is an “ADer”
People who play on the Roleplaying server Argent Dawn are usually called “ADers”.
Hmmm ok thanks but if im not wrong if not for vulperas being added into the horde the rp would be still dead in the horde side right?
The Rp isn’t dead on Horde side?
What on earth are you talking about?
No one of these races is iconic of the Warcraft setting, but maybe ogres.
Well, ok i mean go here and face me im curious to know what you mean by zandalari were ruined come and face me mate go on i wait your good arguements on the topic come!
RP isn’t + never has been dead Horde-side, Vulpera didn’t really change a thing.
They have been massively defanged, Blizz doesn’t even bother to let them appear in the story anymore because of the hole they dug + their refusal to let grudges play out, their awe inspiring God King has been killed off and replaced with [Jaina but Troll], which is also where she gets her name. Talanji is just a respelling of TL Jaina.
They were cheated out of warlock and saddled up with monk, the most interesting loa are dead, their navy is outright gone.
These lads used to be shameless conquerors, now they’re tall Darkspear with a fancier city.
Okay so Zandalari (I’m taking their since-MOP depiction as their canon seeing as blizzard said this is how “they always imagined them to be” so we can discard earlier depictions of them as inaccurate)
- Ruthlessly imperialistic - caught up on their own supremacy
- The whole “priestly caste” of trolls thing was clearly apparent given most of their big bad bois were priest mobs and the frequency of their magic users.
- Shown with a desire to have all the other trolls serve under them to bring back their “glory days”
- Civilised, but not to the point of losing their savagery.
Now we can say “ah, but those were only Zul’s lot…” which if it is the case, made the splinter group of ZT more interesting by far, because what we see in the playable trolls is:
- Religion is emphasized sure but you don’t see a lot of Troll priests kicking around aside from Talanji (it’s not that obvious she is a priest given her powers cover all bases so she could easily be a Jaina-tier mage for all we know), which seems odd for the priestly caste of trolls.
- Their city is full of beggars and dockworkers and blah. Again for a caste of trolls concerned with preserving knowledge and such, where are the huge libraries? I;m not saying no beggars should exist, but it seems blizzard replaced their earlier lore with a generic “Mesoamerican” theme and distanced it from the Zandalari being the super priest caste of all trolls. So whilst they have priests etc, that’s no longer their defining feature.
- Rhastakhan, arguably the biggest excitement of their whole race, is killed within seconds so the legendary figure to accompany a legendary race is now gone. Instead you have a “progressive” replacement, whom is more inclined to make the Zandalari “fit” rather than everyone else fit around them, which is completely contrary to how they’ve been shown to behave.
I know Talanji does the whole “As equals” speech, but classical depictions of Zandalari would have them only joining the horde realistically if they were the ones managing the upper tiers of it. As equals? What?
Killing Rhastakhan was the worst thing they did. Rhastakhan depicted the powerful arrogance of the Zandalari, where it was a strength and a weakness- it blinded him to enemies and failings. This would have been more interesting to explore as opposed to killing him and replacing him with a daughter who overturns millennia of her people’s predication to think themselves the highest order of civilised life in a handwave and and goes “ya mon lessons learned already”.
Also, greatest Navy in azeroth being destroyed by a few special agents and poxy bombs is a contradiction in terms. I don’t care how good Kelsey Steelspark is (sorry babe) you don’t pose a threat to the greatest navy in existence with a backpack of explosives. Just no.
A better way to conclude the story would have been having Rhastakhan get wiped (sure, i’ll take it) but it becomes clear that the bombs only destroyed a small portion of the Navy, the rest of which were being concealed inside some kind of cavern dock, and the Zandalari then full of vengeance are the ones who go and annihilate Teldrassil as revenge using their navy - rather than Sylvanas doing it on a whim because of “kill yur hope”.
This would retain more of the claws of the Zandalari, make BFA have loses and wins for both sides and keep the Zandalari in line with their prior depictions as being ruthless, and not taking slights (hell, they hate elves to this day simply because Azshara forced them to broker a peace deal they didn’t like, you think they’d do absolutely bugger all about their king being gutted in their own city??? Just ask some adventurers to bring Jaina down??? If you ask me they previously seemed like the kind of people who’d bring their entire army and navy down on the alliance as revenge for such an action no matter the cost as they don’t seem to handle being humiliated very well at all- at least they didn.t)
They have been massively defanged, Blizz doesn’t even bother to let them appear in the story anymore because of the hole they dug + their refusal to let grudges play out, their awe inspiring God King has been killed off and replaced with [Jaina but Troll], which is also where she gets her name. First, you really i think need to considere learning some real history and mostly the one of the roman empire because yeah romans were same in that way that at a time when no one els was around as “super power” were shamless conquerors but after lot of majors power arose like the califate or the frankish kingdomes they had to concede grounds slowly and slowly and were more on a defensive actions than conquering like they did before and its same with the zandalari when you had their empire completly reduced by the night elves then with other problmes
Second, Rastakhan was a strong but yet incompetent ruler who took lot of bad decisions like enslaving the goblins, taking hakkar threats as a minor one and just asked help of adventurers (during vanilla) instead of taking care of it for real, he et Zul find the mogu in isl of thunder which was at first a good deal for him because you must also remember that Rastakhan was actually happy with this during MoP (novel shadow of the horde)
3rd ; Loas arent dead blizzard said it in interview they are basically whild gods so dont die and go somewhere els
4th they werent got off the story its actually opposite since during BC/WoD/Legion you didnt even see them once and now since they are part of a faction you will see them always and Talanji making pact with Bwonsamdi will surely be explored in shadowlands plus they werent part of the story is wrong since you all vol’jin storyline that put them in the story you also have the horde war campain which evolve talanji and what she need to do etc…
Ho and nearly forgot 5th since when Zandalari used fel? You are totally saying that a major lore thing in the zandalari culture is making them having less lore interest? I mean the Zandalari are more inked to the loa and blessed than any other trolls (glowing eyes explain this) and its why they bannish in their socity anything whiwh is not loa magics and that include the dam fel magics which is the fuel for every warlock spell since fel is used as a catalyst for lets say life tap or life drain so no not allowing them to be warlock is actually logical and normale
So no all your points are wrong actually you definitly need to play the dam game and learn the lore aswell as real history and learn what mean decline and apogee of empires
Rastakhan was a strong but yet incompetent ruler who took lot of bad decisions
Hot take:
Strong, but incompetent leaders make for more interesting characters than strong, super competent and all-knowing leaders.

Yeah sure but his time was up dude he was here for more than 200y i think its time for change no? (Something that he never wanted to do actually “change”)
i think its time for change no?
I don’t agree, it was terrible.
