I like how flying works currently. I like the idea you should complete the game to a certain level before you can start skipping stuff on other characters while leveling.
Also you mentioned there is no reward for doing these things you didn’t like. But you get your flying, so that is the reward?
And another thing about not enjoying the rep grind or the quests etc you are basically saying you do not enjoy World of Warcraft since that is what the game is about. Maybe you do not enjoy this game?
There is much speculation that the old pathfinders might become obsolete with the squish but none of that is from any official source so I’m a bit skeptical atm.
The pathfinders are purely to gate us and keep us grounded each expansion. I’ve done each one while it’s current but I do feel it’s unfair on players that didn’t play those expansions. I also don’t think they have the best requirements.
I like pretty much everything except being forced to WPvP so I am grateful for being able to turn off the war mode (back in 2006 I choose the default server which turned out to be a PVP one and never bothered to reroll) and being forced to walk although I like mounts and flying.
For instance spending one hour in action house looking for stuff and making money is fun for me. Doing low dungeons and one shooting everything for a rare pattern or drop is fun. One of the goals I have in BFA is to get that 440 alchemy trinket. But walking and herbalism are not hand in hand.
I see a clear division between gear and everything else. For gear I understand the idea of grinding like a lunatic. For flying, why?
Can you accept the idea that one feature can be so annoying for someone else that can ruin a game?
In my life I played some Warcraft 2 and 3, Dota 1, some Stracraft, all multiplayers, no campaign, some Fifa, Transport Tycoon and WoW. No other game. As I mentioned in a different tread, I took a break of +5 years from PC gaming. I never owned a play station or a console, I just have a better laptop now. And I wanted to spend some time playing a game.
For me Wow it’s perfect and I don’t care if I have to pay 120 Euro to boost 2 alts to 120, money are not a factor. I just want to be able to fly.
First time I leveled in WoW (I started playing mid-way through Legion) I had no issue with waiting for flying. I just saw it as a normal part of the game and didn’t expect anything else. Now I have it unlocked everywhere except WoD. I rushed Legion so that I was ready for BfA in time, and then went back between patches to complete the class hall mount and flying requirements. I’m glad we don’t have flying from the get-go, as I feel it’s an achievement to get it. One of the things I’m enjoying most about leveling an alt is turning up places and being able to fly straight away because I’ve earned the ability to do so.
I’d much rather have had riding straight away than flying.
I’d be happy with the option to buy for older expansions, and also to buy in current expack a month or so after Pathfinder part 2 becomes available. Just so long as it’s “opt in” and not just automatic.
I am sorry, but I am not as easily entertained. Repeating stale quests over an over again, gives me nothing but a very negative experience.
I’d rather see Loremaster being the requirement, alongside map exploration. Grinding reputation is NOT exploring the world. It’s destroying all the positive experiences you first had, for some of us.
Flying is a very vital and basic feature of this game. Having it locked behind reputation is absolutely horrible. You can lock a whole lot of things, but not riding skills and vital player power. That’s just crap.
They keep talking about “exploring the world” as the reason why we have Pathfinder, so why isn’t loremaster and map exploration enough? I just don’t get it. Great in your case that Pathfinder is right up your alley, but I think this clouds your impression of how demanding it actually is.
I don’t think flying is an achievement. There was absolutely nothing but negative feelings when I got Pathfinder part 2. It left a sour taste.
Quite frankly, when I obtained it, I felt done and barely used it. 'Cause I’m somewhat burned out. I could have avoided that if I was allowed to play the game at my own pace, without lacking such a vital feature as flying.
Flying isn’t about easy access in my case. It’s about accessing the world, and seeing it from a different angle. I always wanted to fly as a kid IRL(as an adult I’m afraid of heights, but yeah…). It’s just amazing that a fantasty world can let me feel this free. That is why I want flying, and that is why I think flying should be treated much better than it is. Just the fact that half the expansion was already gone by the time we got it, is really sad. I feel like I’ve missed out. It’s still a year left, but I am not sure how much of that year I’ll be around due to grinding vital features to be able to play the game the way I want. It just ruins it. I don’t necessarily have a lot of time at my hands, and when I have to waste that time do a task I get no excitement from(repeating dailies for reputation), it’s not worth it. The Essence grind is also a part of this. We got that on top of the Pathfinder grind. I am still stuck with rank 2 of both my main essences, as guess what… both essences are bound to the same reputations that Pathfinder destroyed me at… just worse, because even after grinding pathfinder, I haven’t grinded enough to get access to my rank 3 essences.
But yeah, my attitude towards the game changes into something negative, as I realize I can’t access features I view as vital, without doing a lot of things I get no enjoyment out of. For me to enjoy the game, the game needs to provide me the features I need, through gameplay I view as entertaining. Giving various means to access features, is one way of doing that. The reputation grinds fail at this quite heavily in my case. They are stale an repetative. I can’t handle it.
The flightmaster whistle teleport you to a flightpath. When I sit on a flightpath. I tab out of the game, because I can’t sit still a watch a gryphon take me somewhere I could have gone on my own, by air. At least I can steer my own flying, and it just feels more natural.
I guess my point is that I don’t expect to be able to fly in a game like this, so being able to obtain flying (even if it is a grindy, time-gated process) is always going to be a plus for me.
This is not single player game where you explore and done all quests so get me flying. This mmorpg and in mmorpg you are not supostu skip terain and content no matter how many times you done it.
The thing about pathfinder for me is there’s always one part of it that would be significantly less painful if you already had flying (the treasures thing springs to mind.) In BFA, for me, that’s Ankoan rep. The Naz’jatar zone design, spawns, wandering and mob density are, to say the least, hectic. Try to get where you’re going, even with FP’s and whistle, and you spend half your time being either chased by a dozen mobs, running round trying to find your way down to that one area, and of course, my personal favourite, trying to get one or two mobs in an area only to have the spawn density mean you have to fight your way past 17 mobs, and those extra four or five that just wandered round the corner.
Basically, the zone is frustrating as all heck to actually move round with any semblance of speed unless you have flying. Which just makes it feel grindier when that’s why you’re grinding it. At least Mechagon is mostly sensibly laid out.
