Nathanos pre-patch spoilers

Who knows? Would certainly be a nicer explanation than plain old racism.

They did mention also in Dark mirror that her beauty was a rare one and even Kael’thas was said to have sought her hand in marriage. I could see Lor’themar having a thing for her only to see her fall for a human just like her sisters.

Oh, I forgot about this one.

Anyway, I think you all have a point by saying that Lor’themar is biased and not objective, because there has been bad blood between them when they were both alive. And I hope you are right, because the pessimist side of me thinks they made Lor’themar say that just to demonize Nathanos’ character even more.

That’s the most probable case.
Lor’themars character in BfA has been shamelessly used to voice what writers want players to feel regarding any/all parts of the story. Regarding Baine, regarding Jaina/the truce, regarding Calia, and now regarding Nathanos.

It’s like they are leaning on him because they think his reputation and credibility may be enough for players to be convinced by whatever he says.
And may be oblivious to the fact that this sort of meddling, could end up backfiring and harm his characterisation.

I mean tbh the first thing that comes to my mind is that he died on purpose to get to the Shadowlands (Sylavanas’ plan)
 But who knows

Very well said, agreed.Lor’themar is one of the few remaining horde characters that’s left, who actually feels like a
normal character? Not butchered yet, atleast.

They choose to focus him, telling the narrative from his mouth.Because they know players wouldn’t take it seriously if a character like Baine said that stuff. This is bad for character.

I mean, what a shocker it would be right.

Nathanos, the character that’s likely a self-insert by a blizzard staff , surely wouldn’t die as a world boss in next expac, just after he got a nice model update too.Surely, there would be a cheesy cinematic he and Sylvanas involved would play before his death, in the shadowlands.Surely we will see him again. Can’t get rid of him this easly.

I actually want that :stuck_out_tongue:
Maybe them remembering the past when they were both alive, ending with a kissy kiss
I’m a hopeless romantic I know, but seriously now, I would expect them to wrap up their story in a way before one of them dies.

Poor guy, right? Dragged into a bloody war when all he ever really wanted is write poetry!

I agree. And they don’t seem to understand that making him say things like "Baine represents the best in the horde " doesn’t make people like Baine more, but instead makes them like Lor’themar less.

I dunno man but if I’d make a character a self insert, I surely wouldn’t give them the treatment Nathanos got in bfa. I mean seriously, a character who 90% of the playerbase hates, who is effectively only Sylvanas lapdog, shows signs of disagreement with her from time to time but never actually acts on it, and in the end, is rejected even by her and abandoned to die

The more you think about it, the more obvious it seems, right?

Which seems off because Lor’themar doesn’t seem like a character that would tolerate the likes of the Baine, after all he has been through. If no one is happy with Baine, making Lor’themar say that stuff doesn’t help with anything. If anything, it makes Lor’themar seem like he is out of character, like you said.So I am annoyed that they choose to use Lor’themar for this ‘‘task’’, after practically butchering many horde characters before him in similar fashion.

Hope he doesn’t turn into a meme-character eventually like Green-Jesus Thrall became, due to this kind of weird writing style they choose.

To me It always seemed like a form of
masochism. Maybe it’s his thing? Who knows.

Indeed. Not much room for the suprises.

The devs seem to tend to use characters to move story where they need, rather than make characters do what characters should do (based on what we know about them).

Lor’themar is supposedly a rather smart person. So, logically, I think he should be very careful with Calia. Somebody with connections to the alliance appears, and might be viewed as a potential leader. Yet, he somehow ignores all the alliance-horde conflicts of the past and made to be happy with influence from the character who is one of closest friends of Jaina and Anduin.

And completely ignore what would that Calia’s sudden claim (if it ever happens) could validate Alleria’s sudden claim if she ever decide during another cataclysm-alike event to make some kind of lucrative suggestion to his people.

Was he portrayed as a character who could be blind to such parallels? I do not think so. But we have what we have.

Well said, it often feels unorganic. That often makes the consistency of characters suffer, then whole story suffer due to that.

Writing a consistent characters with a relatable and interesting story might not be an easy task, but I think they got the resources. They were a much smaller company when they nailed the WCIII storyline, told the story through the game while not forcing the narrative down our throats.

How they went to WoD time travels & current BfA levels of writing and storytelling from that WCIII standarts
interesting.I get the game types are different, but it shouldn’t be the excuse for this kind of bad writing and low standarts.

Lok’themar - here this seems more accurate.

Should have died in this occasion

It was so obnoxious.

But I’m content that they’re somewhat fixing the abysmal ‘revenge’ plot from 8.1, that from what I can read on this thread, some actual keyboard lobsters are agreeing that it was, in fact, revenge.

I don’t particularly like this Nathanos, most especially I don’t like how he was used.

This was the real badass. So much better than the Team Rocket human dude, you’ll be missed!

Obviously, being a fabled Team Rocket character we’ll be having him some more in Shadowlands as everyone already pointed out. My hope is that he starts on a path towards screwing over Sylvanas, instead of dying again like a Season 8 Jaime Lannister.

That can happen with 3 conditions:

  1. Sylvanas is so pissed at him she abandons him in the Maw, I find that unlikely tbh.
  2. We somehow get to save him (which nobody seems to want to do atm) from the Maw and after suffering there without her protection he realizes he doesn’t want to be part of her schemes again.
  3. Sylvanas is set to go down as a villain which I highly doubt at this point. As much as people hate to hear that she is set for redemption.

Reasons why I think she’s set for redemption and her fate is sealed in Shadowlands:

  1. Her lines in all the cinematics point at her “saving us” from a greater evil
  2. Her character got a new look, I think a Maw covenant in a later patch which she will lead
  3. Her popularity among players will create a huge outcry if she goes down as pure evil

I would sacrifice Sylvanas if that meant Nathanos comes back to the Forsaken. To me that still beats the hell out of losing them both. Also could be a life changing experience for Nathanos, his time spent in the Maw would give him an interesting development.

That moment when you graduate from college with a degree in Modern Literature, but you’re neck-deep in debt while also having obtained 0 writing skills from your higher education so you’re forced into below-minimum wage slave work as a story intern at Activision Blizzard.

I would give them my ideas for free if it improved the game lore at least a little bit. Not saying that my ideas are any better though :stuck_out_tongue:

Except you have to provide valid authentication that you’re a complete hack as far as writing is concerned. Hiring actually talented authors and giving them the opportunity to write a good story? We don’t do that here.
