And this is why I said that they’re not re-writing anything. They’re giving their own Blizzard spin on the world’s myths and legends. Those legends are still out there.
Just as Disney’s ‘Cinderella’ is a spin on the Cinderella fairy tale, which is still out there. It’s not re-written. It’s a new interpretation that just exists. Nothing wrong with that.
And honestly: if you do think there’s something wrong with that, to me that just is one more ‘sign of the times’ where no one can say or do anything anymore without someone feeling insulted and feels the need to say this in this horror show we call ‘social media’.
My ancestors’ myths have been rewritten and used in absurd ways. I’m Norwegian, and the old Norse myths and deities have influenced a lot of the titan keepers. Sometimes similarly to the original myths, sometimes not so much. And it’s cool. It’s a game. If I can see my gods being used like this, and be cool with it, I’m sure you can spare us some wights, such as the various kinds of sidhe, presenting as male.
Oh I suppose so…Just grates on me at times, I mean there are -words- they could have used for the male version if they really wanted, they’re not even that hard to look up!
But yeah, the Norse pantheon was utterly torn up and rewritten especially during Wrath, so I’ll grant you that one.
Out of curiosity, what is the name for a male Banshee/Bean Sidhe?
I may not have read of them yet (most of my Fae info is coming from fiction based around them, and the writer of that tends to lean towards the ah…feminine sides of the info, tho she does have lots (and oh lots lo) of males in there.)
I doubt they will. Clearly it was shown they don’t care about Void elves since they will be getting the blood elf underwear instead of theirs, clearly they were too lazy to even change that. But I guess anything can happen. But considering how Night elves got 0 highborne options and blood elves 0 Farstrider options it’s pretty much to assume what we saw for Void elves is it.
Highborne and Farstrider aren’t the b-all and end-all of Night Elves and Blood Elves.
I know those are the only areas that you care about, but Blood Elves do have the Magisters you know. Make up some of the best Elven Mages on Azeroth, to date.
So… while Night Elves basically got a full customization overhaul at this point, all that Blood Elves got is a new shade of their bulging blind lightbulbs and the ability to make elves black. Cool. Way to go. Add in some cheap bed-slave jewelry and we’re apparently good to go
By the way, what about giving most Night Elf customization options to Nightborne too? They are the SAME RACE. They only differ in philosophy. A good portion of Night Elves were BORN in Suramar (including Tyrande Whisperwind, Illidan and Malfurion Stormrage, Maiev and Jarod Shadowsong, etc). Not to mention elves are pseudo-immortal and some of them are STILL ALIVE. Evolution doesn’t happen over 2-5 generations. Not even in WoW… Oh forgive me, I forgot you suddenly made blood/void elves black overnight. So maybe evolution is instant stuff in WoW after all!
Yeeeaahh that’s my thought, too. The remnants of the species are survivors of an absolute slaughter. If it were up to me, there would certainly be the option to make them look more ‘rough around the edges’, as it were, instead of or in addition to the more generic pretty jewellery approach.
You mean you and your little friends talked about them and nothing else you mean?
I get it - you see blood elves as fighters and only fighters and night elves as casters and only casters, but I’ll always view them as the opposite - as was their initial introductions in W3.
Also the way Blizzard talked about Blood Elves in their TBC interviews about being a magical people, addicted to magic and their whole civilization was based around arcane magic. Yeah - that’s what I want to see…
While their civilization is built around the arcane the Farstriders don’t do magic at all. They prefer using their bows only and they also prefer staying in the forests. Night elves their civilization is build around nature and MAGIC. Highborne have always been and will always be an important part of the Night Elves. Same thing with the Farstriders. And the new options for blood elves fit the Magisters style very well.
So Magisters get a few more features, considering the Mage class is quite central to Blood Elves.
It’s like Night Elves get a few Druidic features considering Druids are quite central to their culture.
I mean, why are features that cater to a central class for Blood Elves, something you find problematic - yet said similar features are ok for Night Elves?
I mean, is this you wanting Blood Elves to be w3 Night Elves and Night Elves to be Blood Elves - because that isn’t going to happen. (Thank goodness.)
Having the ability to have the Void Form constantly on would be totally sweet for my Void Elf Affli Lock.
Blizzard originally said they would not give updated customizations to any Allied race. The reveal that they were adding normal skin colors to Void Elves was only the first, and they are going to add more customizations to other Allied races too, as we already see with Nightborne.
I never said that. Don’t try to turn my words against me. I never said their current options are bad. They are amazing but it’s not what a Farstrider would have. They wouldn’t have a tiara or fancy styled hair obviously. They would have a more wild look. Same thing goes for Highborne night elves, they would have a more regal look not that wild Druidic look. Highborne was always an important part of their civilization because they are their heritage. They became Night Elves because of the Well of Eternity who was titan blood with full ARCANE essence in it, not too mention Azshara shaped their race and became the most powerful on ancient Azeroth. And she is a Highborne. And they always used arcane as hunters and druids also use them. Hunters have arcane infused arrows, while druids take their powers from stars/balance and those are arcane infused to say the least but not in the same way a mage would have their powers. Arcane/Magic is an important part of Night Elves and their society/life. Same thing for Farstriders, don’t forget they are the best protectors of Quel’thalas as they know every corner of their land because they live in its forests.
