Night elf potential

They are down and nearly out, but this group hasn’t used all the cards in its deck. There is a lot of potential this race utilise to not only pull them back from the brink but rise to put them back o the map as one of the most powerful factions.

Currently we’ve only seen fraction of the full potential of the kaldorei in the Darnassian group. To thrive again, they will need to dive deep and unlock, utilise every thing they have. They have many groups and facets either depleted, on the brink and certainly not utilised

Yes, humans arent the only ones with potential. And if the devs seem mainly focused on showing human potential, but ignoring the ones they’ve clearly set up in other races, preferring to only show them when they need casualties or victims, then it’s up to us to find the potential in the races we like.

The night elves appear weak, but they are not, we have not seen all the kaldorei factions unite together, and they have some powerful groups.

This is the potential they have

1. The Order of Elune - has more potential not yet utilised or fully reaslised

We have seen the sentinel/ huntress side of the Order of Elune, but what we haven’t seen is the spell weaving side that utilises arcane and void magic in addition to holy magic. Priestesses that can call down the stars, go uber with the night warrior ritual and use the void to devastating effect in this chakra state.

The Order operating in their spell capacity hasn’t been seen.

2. The night elf Illidari

They are such a highly trained group, masters of both spell and melee, only recently returning to the fight, we see the night elf illidari take lead roles in the alliance against the Legion , but we haven’t seen the rest of this group fight for team kaldorei.

These night elves went down that path to both avenge and save their people, I find it hard to believe that they won’t be willing to join the fight to stop their people from being extinct.

The Darnassians would need to get them on board, especially now they have seen these guys were never betrayers working for the Legion but were fighting both for their people and Azeroth and remain committed to controlling the power of demons to destroy or keep them in check in order to defend their people.

Should those people who once shunned them now be willing to accept them, could be all the excuse they need.

Roll over human potential, night elves aren’t out yet.

3. Ravencrest undead.

Potential comes from both conventional and unconventional sources, expected and un expected sources. Here in lies the undead night elves of Black Rook hold, recently risen and used to devastating effect.

These were the best strategists and military fighters of the Kaldorei in the great war, and it is their depleted martial numbers the Order of Elune branched out to fill after the great war ended. They were quite the garrison in Legion. They break free from the legions deception, and their strategies are what the nightborne rebellion utilise to win their city back. They could be a powerful source of DKs, not loyal to the Lich King or Sylvanas as the legion raised them using more advanced necromantic techniques independent of the undead there.

I can also see their campaign winning back the likes of Sira and Delaryn from Sylvanas as well as all the risen night elf dark rangers.

The potential Ravencrest brings is enormous, though undead, he has already shown his people have the same character and resolve to stand against that which destroys Kalimdor, and their highly skilled force and stronghold is both an excellent training ground and a source of DK like powers to add to the night elf arsenal. Not to mention I’m sure the night elf DK fan would find loyalty to Ravencrest far more exciting and fitting than to the Lich King, Ebon Hold or Sylvanas.

4. The shen'dralar

They’ve already created an army of mages for the kaldorei, but they were Queen Azshara’s most revered arcanists processing her greatest projects - they were likely the engine of the kaldorei empire, the wondrous things described, the great cities and wonder feats, and they never stopped studying g the arcane or lose their knowledge.

They could potentially rebuild any Kaldorei empire city or wonders lost to the age, a lot of cool stuff lost - potentially in this group, the night elves can recover or rebuild it all through all

5. The Moonguard

Azeroth’s most accomplished mage army, their feats are legendary, and their leaders and greatest resources survived the nightborne invasion. We saw a nightborne army empowered by the nightwell, vastly outnumbering these guys, out magicked and out fought by them, to the extent they were taking out entire troops of nightborne per Moonguard - blizzard emphatically showed the Moonguard living up to their reputation as you would expect a group that has lived outside the bubble and had to continue fighting for 10,000 years.

All the leaders, the most skilled and knowledgeable of the Moonguard survived, as did their stronghold and their skills, knowledge as well as weaponry. They can train a formidable army of combatant night elf mages even the Kirin’tor could not stand against if they were to get decent numbers from new recruits.

6. The Farondis

Had the world’s foremost arcane research university in an age that arcane knowledge and advancement was at its pinnacle (far surpassing that of todays), pondering the mysteries of the arcane. The brightest academics of the kaldorei civilisation would be amongst them, we saw how noble and powerful Prince Farondis was, as they appeared to encapsulate an era of the highborne that retained its nobility while those with the Queen fell to addiction, arrogance and reckless abuse.

In them, the kaldorei would potentially have the foremost minds and teachers of the arcane anywhere. And ones with the calibre and integrity to wield such power.

7. The Druids

They’ve suffered a lot from the nightmare, but Shaladrassil’s nightmare and The Emerald Dream’s corruption was cleansed. With many of the greatest druidic minds around, including Malfurion, Remulous, even Cenarius.

We haven’t seen their full potential either from utilising and employing powers of the emerald dream, powers of a world tree, ability to grow food, crops, weapons, troops, combined with the limitless potential of the arcane…, the Wild gods

8. The Cenarians, the dryads and Keepers of the grove, sons and daughters of Cenarius

With the druids on board and being as much victim of the horde, not to mention they’ve often fought with the night elves whenever the druids have joined the fight. They are another Avenue for the kaldorei to fully gather their might and maximise their potential.

Troops with endless resurrection, fading in and out of the dream at will. I believe their neutrality was more because at the start of wow, blizzard felt the night elves too global to have all their assets in a faction, so the Cenarians we associated with the druids, and thus other races like the tauren who were decided to also be druids and not just the night elves.

With the night elves pretty much in pieces after the war of thorns, they’ll need all their powers, and allies to ont just survive, but recover once more.

9. Night elf Worgen from the emerald dream

These were so powerful an original group, they had to be sealed in the emerald dream to contain them till a solution could be found. With Goldrinn returned, the scythe of Elune available and more of these worgen finding themselves in Val’sharah duringlegion, the kaldorei have powerful group of worgen, far more versed in the druidic and magical arts than the human worgen are, and having thousands of years in their wolf form, they are also a source both of numbers and power.

10. The Well of Eternity

Is still around, and night elves still have a connection to it. As for end of Legion, they have no good reason not to utilise it. The main reason they stopped was because it was what was believes to be the only reason the Legion was here and the only power capable of summoning them. Turns out they were wrong about the reason they were here, wrong about it being the only means, and wrong about the signature unable to be masked when it is used. Also the threat is finally neutralised. No more legion.

The other concern was addiction, but that has both being cured and understood, balance prevents addiction and a nature connection cures it. The arcan’dor reverses effects. Finally, the night elves now have kin in their returned highborne who are not only capable of fully utilising it, but have the necessary humility , control and desire not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

But above all these, they need as much power as they can get to win back control of their lands (priests) , save them from destruction (druids) but also restore their civilization and ruins (highborne).

11. The Goddess Elune,

As if the well of Eternity wasn’t powerful enough, the Goddess of Elune was the other A+ factor in the rise to dominance of the Kaldorei, and it is their fascination with her that led to such vigorous study of the Well tharunlocked the arcane and produced the mageclass…

The goddess has never really acted on behalf of the night elves in any huge way in recent times till the Night Warrior ritual, a sign that she agrees their cause is just and trusts the Tyrande led kaldorei with the power of the dark side of the moon, this is a sacred responsibility, and alongside with the arcane power wielded by the Moon Guard was what allowed the night elves to conquer ancient kalimdor against those who wanted to snuff them out.

Elune is a huge potential factor too, the Night Warrior is an example of an awesome empowerment, but she is also capable of restoring Satyr to night elves again, this could be extended to Farondis and possibly naga too, which could produce a sizeable population boost of very skilled night elves…, Farondis were based on the night elves greatest academics and the noblest of the highborne, in fact the only full highborne group to be blameless and fully noble when Azshara went. If any group merits resotrationthey do. Also satyr and naga could be restored, I sometimes feel Elune helping many satyr but leaving little reminders of their past and them returning as Illidari looking night elves, while the naga she returns have some vestiges of their previous form almost as a reminder or a form of separation, someone did a beautiful Naz’dorei concept.

Elune actually helping the night elves with their cause should enable Cenarius to break neutrality to a degree and some of the wild gods too like Aessina, Avianna, Ashamane and Ursoc/Ursol,

12. The World Trees and Emerald dream connection and wild gods

Cenarius may have been there for the early period of the pre sundering era, but the night elves rose to great heights on the back of the Well of Eternities power another influence of the Goddess Elune, now they have a sword source of powerin the World trees millennia of druidsm has developed their ability, cities to grow, and the Emerald dream their druids have spent millennia navigating, learning its powers and abilities. This is a new dimension of power to add to the others, andmay be what was needed to prevent the addiction to the arcane.

Who knows what heights they can reach with this intime? But for now, with so few numbers the race and its druids would need all the extra power they can get to make up for lack of numbers and combat the powerful forces wielded by their enemies.

This is no doubtuntaped potential that can give help to the night elves especially after their druids restore shaladrassil, is to give them the nature equivalent of the Well of Eternity, by linking them to the Emerald dream through Shaladrassil. Not only would the nature connection ensure well users never get addicted as it is a counter balance, but it would allow greater nature power access and some perks like greater resistance to the elements and stronger immunity against natural diseases… not quite the level of the Aspect blessings from Nordrassil, but now might elves can walk bare chested in the snow again.

It could also increase the help they get from wisps.

Potential Extra Developments

13. Numerous Satyr and Naga from possible rebel/repentant factions

are a potential source of more allies and numbers for the stretched night elves, as discussed in the Elune section, she can restore Satyr, and probably Farondis and Naga. Farondis merit a return, but I suspect Satyr and naga would be a more selective process. I have no idea if there is a faction of satyr and naga willing to do the right thing after the Legion and Azshara’s defeat, maybe they wanted to break free but couldn’t and had been working in secret to undermine the efforts of both Xavius and Azshara. The game has shown us Satyr who want out, and we know some were made into this without their consent. It is the same with the naga. Queen Azshara using the old gods knowledge and the power they allowed and guided her to tap, transformed the palace highborne in cohorts with her into Naga, without their consent.

While the naga seem to worship her, it is not beyond belief their are groups who resent her, even likely. They believed she ws going to lead them and the world into a flawless paradise, with all corrupt and flawed things removed. A world they would rebuild in perfect, flawless beauty and perfection. With the excellence only their hands could bring. That is not what they got. Instead a cursed and hideous form, and their would behaviours, the legionexposed as villains, only to have the Queen deal with an even greater power.

Their are some who would have followed the old Azshara to the end, believing she was doing this for the better of her people, those would now have woken up to that like nut trapped in this new form. It is conceivable theyd have been those trapped as naga, looking for a chance to redeem themselves, escape the nightmare, overthrow Azshara or just find freedom.

They could be a source of very skilled night elven. The Farondis of skilled highborne, the satyr a source of more skilled Illidari well adept in the fel arts and handling demons, especially if Elune restores them partially to an Illidari like mixed demon and elf appearance, and like Illidari, they must rune up to keep the demon within controlled, dedicated themselves to joining the fight to ensure no new legion arises or other demonic forces harry Azerith and the night elves.

Meanwhile for the Naz’dorei that Elune restores, she gives them an elven form with some indication of their naga past, and a curse of sorts that when in water they revert to naga form, and looking at their reflection in water shows them their naga self. Transformation is induced when their negative emotions are heightened, and the Goddess wants them to prove they are worthy of been made fully whole and won’t revert to blindly following evil. Alternatively these naga could be the ones that restore their forms, but arent able to fully return to their original state or intentionally leave vestiges of their naga form they feel are improvements or like.

If you want them to develop Night Elf lore - fine by me, but please please let them do it through novels or short stories, because I’m so tired of being forced to play through Night Elf stuff. Or just Elf stuff in general.

There is no Night Elf potential. Only their fans who believe they are better then everyone else, just because they had a big empire 10,000 years ago. They are just like any other race(both factions), sidekicks to the humans, and sometimes Velen.

I do think that Night Elves were amazing during the War of the Ancients, but that’s probably the only moment when they were interesting.

I don’t want to step on Kalibas’ toes though, since he put a lot of work in this thread. Like all races, Night Elves deserve a proper background story but I just don’t want to be forced to play through it. I’ve seen enough Elves since Legion by now.

Oh I appreciate his efforts. Totally. But we all know who the pet race of Blizzard really is. And they have had plenty of years to trash down everyone else in the favor of the hoomanz since…Cataclysm I guess?

You left out Wardens

Maiev voice
“You incur my wrath!!”

And Sentinels…

They are already opreating at their max potential, so are the wardens, while new stuff can be made up for htem, all the stuff concerning them is currently being utilised by the Darnassians.

The Kaldorei factions are united in Darkshore you can clearly see it. I was really happy to see Maiev, the Wardens,Jarod,Shandris,Mordent Evershade, and the Sentinels.
I would love to see Farondis join the Night Elves in 8.2.
We have to explore the Night Warrior more, and see the Order of Elune in action.
And for all the haters  we defend the Night Elves using lore, events in game, and novels. While you spend the entire time attempting to spite us and sully the Kaldorei image. As for the ones who are annoyed with ‘‘being forced’’ to play Night Elf stuff, simply don’t play :stuck_out_tongue:

Sigh

I don’t even know why I responded to this thread in the first place.

Not surprising.

Still many Night Elves are missing. Check out my thread:

And yes, I’m still waiting for the real Malfurion Stormrage to appear. The one who was burning down hundreds of demons by summoning the lightning storms. The one who was killing hundreds of the undeads by summoning treants. The one who was talking to the earth it self, being most powerful creature on Nature Powers Realm.
Not the old elf who forgot his powers, just to become punching bag.

Instead of being snarky to people who don’t agree with you, why don’t you be a bit more considerate to people who don’t like Night Elves that much? This game has tons of other races that are worth exploring, yet WoW has mostly been focused around Elves during Legion (7.3 was an exception). This patch is all about Elves as well (understandably), and the next patch won’t be any different.

You get that some of us are just done with that, right?

You get that Night Elves established since WC3 have been butchered for over 10 years now right? This is the only Patch where you are forced to play anything Night Elf related. Blizzard has a long way to go to portray the Night Elves they way they should.
I have no problem with other races being developed, however I have a problem with people like you purposely hating on a race you don’t care about.

I feel the same about other races. Take trolls and tauren, I have quite liked the rich lore they bring, with a completely different style and interesting things, but I got troll lore EVERY single expansion in patches dedicated to one of their cultures, while, night elf stuff was limited to books.

When BFA came out, I found it so hard to be interested in either Kul’tirans or Zandalari, despite wanting to see Zadnalari for a while.

I know that elven stuff would alwyas be interesting to me.

And people tend to feel that way about races they aren’t that interested in or have seen a little too much off - this is why imo, blizzard need to introduce race campaigns, a system where they develop the lore of a race and you help your race throughout the expansion, like you did your class campaign only this time it is even better than the Class order halls.

imagine this concept:
Race campaign: Continues race story, gives new race lore, explores the different things.
objectives: Races are now going all out for themselves, tryign to recover their losses, build up their shattered lives, restore their power, or boost thier power.
Features: You help build yorur races capital through a new resources system.
You feed new resource to improve your races power sources… and these boosts your character.
e.g. night elves in release patch have to build up and open up the Well of Eternity, and this unlocks traits for your spec (like artifact weapons), the more you power it up, the more traits you unlock, but this time, you’re not the only one that improves, your race does. In first patch of new expansion, you switch to unlocking hte power of hte Emerlad dream throught he world tree, and it has its own power tree, similar to how 7.2 brought new ranks in traits and set of new ones, then in the next patch it is the Path of Elune, a device in the Cathedral of Eternal Night that use to empower the priests, now the temple is cleared of corruption you have to build it up ,.

Tha’ts just hte night elf exmaple. Humans /dwarves have 3 titan paths they have to build, blood elves have the arcane and light side of the sunwell, and the ban’dinoriel etc

Anyway, the point is that in addition to the main expansion story, you have racial campaigns that are focusing on a race or a group of races. (core race and allied race).

Him saying not wanting to see more Night Elf lore does not scream he does not care about them. That’s like me saying because Sylvanas is the focus of the Forsaken, I hate the Forsaken entirely and would rather unsub than play them.

You really need to check your attitude.

No, it’s not. Kalimdor is dedicated to Night Elves. Legion had Val’sharah and the Nightborne, for multiple patches. I won’t mention the War of Thorns, because we both hate it. I’m fine with 8.1 since that’s a sort of compensation for the pre-patch.

I agree that Night Elves have been protrayed much weaker than they supposedly are since WC3, but Night Elves are finally fighting back again, with multiple orders and classes standing together against the Forsaken, and I still see posts appearing that it’s not enough?

Like I said, I’m fine with developing Night Elf lore further, just as long as they aren’t on the foreground of the game so much. Novels or short stories are ideal for this, they’re a much better way to tell the story anyway.

I’m a Tauren fan, but I know some people aren’t. Just give me a short story about how the Tauren are doing under Baine’s leadership (and we really need some background on that, because our leader got shackled and we have no idea what everyone is thinking) and then I’m fine.

Quote me on where I’m hating on the Kaldorei.

And that’s fair enough, we all have our preferences and I agree with what you wrote here.

Fully agreed, that’s a good idea. It will give all races some background, and no race will feel like they are put on the background.

EDIT

Actually, xD I don’t really care much about them but I still want the race to get a proper backstory like all races should. I for one love Malfurion and the rest of the Druids (my Alliance main is a Night Elf Druid actually) and it’d be amazing to see more from them.

That is literally what he said, which means he wants them out of the game and limited to novels lol. The game features many races and we are all ‘‘forced’’ to play things we don’t find appealing. I have nothing to check, it is a passionate response to a hater.
