Night Elf male faces should be a lot more like this:

Think about it !!

  • You are infused and surrounded by life enhancing arcane energies from your Well of Eternity and Moonwells.
  • You use those to enhance life all around you - yours will enhance too
  • If Highborne male - you definitely care enough about your appearance to look good and smooth
  • If druid male - you also wield nature magic that is it’s own life juice
  • You’ve also been sleeping for thousands of years, in caves away from weathering (besides you were immune to the effects of elements for most of your life

You will and should have more younger faces for sure than older ones. Younger than the female faces that are on the whole much nicer and smoother. Where actually they should be much older.
But yet they would also be recipients of the life enhancing energies of the Wells
And well, the Elune light and arcane magic would also help.

The Highborne males who became High Elf Males certainly did.

Obviously, the majority of Highborne men became snakes or demons, so…

  • You forget that many Moonguard who were the muscle of the resistance army and other highborne stayed with the Darnassians become druids after they voted to ban the arcane to prevent the demons returning.

  • You also forget many of these have returned to being highborne when the ban is final lifted and Tyrande invites the Shen’dralar.

  • You forget the Shen’dralar are the survivors of a city of Highborne.

  • Highborne exists as a kaldorei caste and are very much present amongst night elves and nightborne.

  1. The majority of Highborne were slaughtered;
    a) Farondis highborne a zone full who rebelled
    b) all those in cities all over the realm
    c) Menaar highborne - ancestors of the Sunstriders (it’s likely where they originally come from)

  2. Only the Highborne in the palace were turned into Satyr and Naga, not all willingly for the former

  3. The high elves certainly do carry on many traits of their night elven origin, in particular the elements of the culture of the caste. With a few changes off course

I kinda view them as what the Highborne would have been like if they were just by themselves, without Elune influence and the degree of nature reverence the original kaldorei have.

The answer is clear, they would have done fine, but would never have gone as far as the kaldorei did. To get to that height, you needed the degree of benevolence, discipline of Elune, and hunger for magic combined together that was balanced out correctly. At least until ofc Azshara near the end, went over board in her attempts to unlock more power of the well. However you must note their civilization was already centuries if not over a few millennia fully developed before she started getting corrupted.

High elves are night elves without the night, without organised religion and nature reverence, and swapping star and moon fascination for the sun and day. The only strong thing from the night elves that remain is the arcane love. Whiles other things remain, like was common in Zin’Azshari Highborne circles, Elune (religion) or nature reverence was very low amongst them. Nature love is there, just secondary.

The high elves seem to have evidence of nature love… all elves do, just not on the level of the original elves, the night elves. It’s the arcane love that is high up like it was amongst night elves and still is amongst the highborne circles, but as we all saw with the nightborne, it isn’t at night elf level of batsh*t crazy - which is a compliment to them, because it appears they did learn the lessons. They all did - night elf, high elf and all those we play.

Except for:
Being awake during the day
Establishing their own city with protective barriers
Mastery of Frost-based Magic
Worshipping the sun
No longer caring for Elune.

Naturally - although their is that little matter of enchanting and timelocking their entire homeland into an eternal spring, so nature isn’t running it’s standard course.

It’s not so much about love - it’s standard highborne attitude. “How can we do this for OUR benefit?”

Some think that any change to nature is un-natural and bad, but not everyone does if it is a positive change that enhances it.

I actually don’t think night elves or thalassian elves view the eternal spring spell as a bad thing.

You can see how some people will view eternal life as against nature
Enhancing nature via moonwells, Well of Eternity, Sunwell, World Tree - these don’t occur “naturally” therefore are an affront to nature in their eyes

I just don’t think people understand that Elves - night elves and Thalassians believe in magic as a force for good, that should be used to enhance life, improve it prolong it -t hat is their philsophy.

The night elves started this by using their arcane powers to to boost everything around them. THose in the long vigil couldn’t use spells directly to improve things because it woulddraw the legion back to destroy the world - this is the sole reason for their ban, but they used the arcane energies they had to improve things.

The Thalassians did not have that limitation nor restriction, and they happily use the arcane spells directly to improve nature - this isn’t wrong.

Remember, even night elves are not against arcane use, they just loathe irresponsible and reckless usage, but it comes from a place of “arcane is sacred”, the Wwater of the Well of Eternity , arcane they are, are sacred - the Goddess is connected to tthis. and it is their origin.
Highborne typically do not do much spiritualisation of this, so there is less of that amongst their caste, and for the group that became high elves, you can see the arcane is purely practical, not spiritual. They use it for things they love - which includes nature.

I guess night elves have deep uses of the arcane, practical ones via the mages/highborne/moonguard, spiritual ones by the priests and nature enhancing ones by the druids.

Yes night elf mages are back (well technically they never left) and there are 3 entire factions of them around currently:

  • The Shen’dralar, an entire city, like Suramar, full of them, and after losing their city, aim to rebuild and restore the tarnished glory of the obility of the caste),
  • The Farondis, a zone full of highborne (most of whom are mages) and who seek to be free from their curse.
  • The Moonguard - the remnant and last bastion of the legendary battle mage order of the night elves, those who didn’t stay with the Darnassians, and continued using the arcane, their leaders and a few of their members survived a near extinction event.

Ah, looks like all the night elf groups faced a near extinction event.

I thought most races, factions and groups were basically extinct, and yet are not

  1. high elves - Scourge invation
  2. Night elves - genocide twice (1st invasion and WoT)
  3. Illidari - Black Temple invasion
  4. Gnomes - Gnomeragan

I mean nearly every race and every group has had an extinction level event - but gues s what, there were survivors, sometimes only a handful necessary - look at void elves.

Didnn’t the Shen’drlaar also visit Silvermoon and teach reforging to the blood elves and the horde.

Besides, it’s okay to have night elves ally with the Nightborne - it’s the same race and they’ve worked together. But whether they do or not, the Moonguard are still around and are racially night elves whether they ally with the horde, or do not as friends of the Nightborne or not.

You can have cross faction friendships you know, and in the lore not every race hates every other just because their colours are different.

they lost their immortality and now feel the age of 10,000 years :stuck_out_tongue: you wish you’d look that good at 10k quite a few night elves got sick and died once they lost their immortality since they had no idea how to live as mortals i think it was a darkshore quest

we have no idea how old some of this people was before they got immortality but i’m guessing the majority of the night elves are fairly old after all one of the downsides with immortality is that you generally lose the need to reproduce meaning after a while no new generation is born and you end up with a bunch of old people

By that logic, why do the females look so good?

And what of their nature and aracnae magic that both boost and aid life incredibly? What about their extraordinarily healthy lifestyle.

Why doesn’t Tyrande and Malfurion look completely ancient then if losing immortality means rapid aging? Surely it means the clock continuing from when it stopped. AFterall that is the evidence that the game models and leader models seem to suggest.

If you were elderly when immortality was first achieved in the pre-sundering era, you probably look like that unless you disguise it - can aging looks be magically healed/reversed? WEdon’t even know. A lot of assumptions there.

What we do know is

  1. Arcane magic and energies improve and boost life
  2. Nature magic ntutrtures and propoagtes life too
  3. Hibernating for thousands of years will also considerably slow your aging - if you aged
  4. Sleeping in a cave, not exposed to elements too, would prevent aging, but then if you are immune to the elements like they were, you wouldn’t look old too
  5. If you care about your appearnce, like elves do, in particular Highborne types, you look after yourself well and even go so far as to use spells to enhance that as I suspect highborne would.

I mean the lore facts don’t match the face details. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be wrinkled faces at all, but really, shouldn’t they be the minority rather than the majority

I Suggest an aging tick box for the males.

Since we have so many faces with wrinkles, if they do smooth versions of each, players can simply just tick the “wrinkles” box tog et the wrinkled versions.

they abandoned the arcane tradition 10000 years ago when they started their eternal watch for the return of the burning legion infact that highborn that would later become the blood elves was banished by malfurion for their refusal to give up their ways and the females clearly know beauty tips like we all do in real :stuck_out_tongue: men would never lower them self to using beauty products clearly thats why their are showing their age

heck Illidan got 10,000 years in prison for making the 2nd well of eternity under the tree in mount hjyal it actually made little sense that the night elves welcome the same highborn they had banished back in their ranks in cata was it

What is arcane tradition? 1 of the 3 main night elf groups banned the arcane to prevent the legion’s return, with support from the demi-gods and dragons (not the blues) going on their advise as they were the experts in the field.

It was night elf mages, who fought in the resistance, along with Malfurion and all who knew knowledge of such things that made that decision.

Without the practice of the arcane for spells in only this group, much of the way of life that was sustained by it would not carry on during this Vigil era. Indeed, much of the former way of life, of family life, growth and development, civilization, trade - none of those things would matter. They became hunters and guardians - for 10,000 years a while. But never forget that Elves never forget and were immortal throughout this period. Out of practice yes, not out of know-how.

They however, were constantly suffused and surrounded by the arcane energies. Their eyes glowing bright silver with the power, Moonwell littered their lands, using the arcane energies to guess what… enahnce life, plants, animals - while the priests used the waters for healing properties.

So, without use of spells, the arcane energy was still enhancing and improving their lives, as well as boosting nature. But there society would not be as enhanced as it should ahve been if they were using the magic like before

The other two night elf groups continued to use the arcane for spells, shielding themselves from watching eyes. They were imbalanced without the priesthood, but it doesn’t mean they didn’t use the arcane to enhance their lives and appearance. Indeed, the shen’dralar Highborne appearance used in game are all young faces - the 1 face (hehe?) need to recheck this to confirm. The other group, the nightborne, we know, used the arcane to even feed, which actually whiles it helped sustain them with very low food supplies, it also made them unhealthy. The arcane enahnces nature, not replaces it.

they’d be the most unhealthy looking ones… The two arcane socieites, would have a lot going for them, but they wouldn’t be as balanced or whole without the benefits brought by the priesthood and stronger nature magic.

It makes little sense only if you don’t understand the lore or haven’t cared much to think explore, learn or think about it.

Illidan was imprisoned because they thought he was an agent of the legion restoring the Well to call back the Legion. If they bleieved the Well was evil and hated it - they would not have used it to grow a tree, given their lives to defend it, nor used it to recreate smaller moonwellls all over the lands they guarded and stood watch over.

Dangerous yes, because of it’s capability to bring back the Legion not evil.

Furthermore, once the Legion returns, a ban on both magic and the need for a vigil will totally end. It actaully would make no sense to stay away from arcane magic, and continually begrudge your highborne kin for so long when they have overcome too and you both need each other.

hence why

  1. Night elven priests and druids are wielding arcane starfalls, shards, moonfire, starsurge, starfire etc and other such spells for waracraft 3 onwards
  2. Have 0 problems with arcane using humans they ally with nor with arcane using Draenei they become good friends with
  3. in fact initially the problem with the Shen’dralar is not that they use magic or arcane magic, but rather anger at the role of the caste in the WotA bubbling up. a discontentment that was easily overcome, until Maiev stirred up problems but on discovery of her propaganda, it resolves (read wolfheart)

Whether nature energies or arcane energies, they have both, and it all means they should look quite healthy. Also all elves love beauty. Beauty is a huge deal for them, all their handiwork and craftsmanship, from the exquisite buildings, to clothes, and implements are beautiful. The fascination of the forest is in the beauty of nature, the night sky is this in the beauty of the stars… Their mindset lens towards knowledge, beauty and excellence.

I wish they allowed you to change your expression on your characters.

Moody, pleasant, pissed, haughty, peaceful, grumpy - would change your default expression.

Sadly I suspect some faces are literally just different expressions of the same face.

I imagined naturally because they are more of an active hands on race - night elven males would have more chiselled angular face options like this

For a younger face - it owuld awesome in purple hues and night elf tones.

This one is directly an artistic upgrade of the in-game classic Nelf male model face, wish it was translated well into the in game model so it looked as nice as this

Here is another upgrade of a classic face that dind’t quite tranlste with the 6.0 update. This sort of face as a new face would be welcome. Plus it would be so cool if night elf males had jewlelery effects like this for those who wanted to model highborne.

None of these look wrinkly old, all of them look quite good… if we could get 5 new faces like these, it would be great. Failling thatI would say a de-wrinkled version of the existing faces, with a tick box to switch between wrinkles (call it weathered) and non-wrinkled.

Not sold on the first Nelf face picture there, but the other four look good, yep, we need those in game, rather than perpetually grumpy… I especially like that last one, to be honest, I’d definitely use that for my druid.
