Night Elf Updates: New Male faces, also Arcane/Elune Star tattoos & Nightborne requests

I’m all for customization as long as they make sense in the lore

This doesn’t, our player characters are not avatars of elune
something inspired of it would be cool, but giving everyone the elune avatar face from Tyrande would just make the Elune face way less cool and honestly a bit of a meme
That doesn’t mean that nelves can’t get a more toned down version of it for the face

Not to mention that with that customisation, the whole ‘Avatar of Elune’ thing makes no sense. “The Powers it unleashes are too much for one mortal to bear” “No probs dude, loads of people took the black eyes customisation, Tyrande’s absolutely lit, go for it!”

But the leaders we follow are represent the race and the characters we play.

WE aren’t night warriors but we got black eyes customisations

We aren’t the avatars of Elune, but the people are the children of the stars, and followers of Elune, they can get arcane star customisations fitting their current tattoos, as a slider option for example… option 1 is none, option 2 adds stars within the borders of the tattoos (both men and women) , option 3 then adds glowy silver arcane outlines on those tattoos, and option 4, can deepen the purple, add a glowy crescent moon and shower of stars effects.

In addition to vines, we can have a slider instead of tick box, option 1 is none, option 2 is vines, option 3 is star shower that will have shower of stars like the astral from graphic over the head and shoulders.

They are the children of the stars, arcane wrought, Elune and arcane magical effects are part of them, this is the inspiration for the tattoo effect in the first place, so utilise that and show it on the player characters too, not jsut an unplayable NPC who had that for a moment or only when she powers up from the dark moon… It’s something most players found really cool - and you would want that on the player characters too.

Well what I’ve outlined is something inspired of it… you’re not giving everyone Tyrande’s face, but you are giving them that thing they all found cool.

I mean not everyone found it cool, but a whole load of people found it cool, very cool. And it fits their lore.

Then why didn’t they have those features before now?

Why didn’t they have vines before now?
Or tattoos?

Why did blood elves not have bright Light gold eyes before now?
Or shorter ears?

Yet the lore surrounding their origin has been a part of the race since forever.

/Nod and /clap need a look over too.

Well, certainly on RP realms, they can have, you just put it on your MRP/TRP profile. Brigante’s TRP describes him as having his topknot in braids, with small silver arrowhead trinkets woven into it, and dragonhawk feathers.

Because they didn’t. No really, they didn’t. That only occurred since the Sunwell became a font of not only Arcane, but Arcane -and- Light after Mu’ru’s sacrifice at the end of TBC. Lore-wise it is those Blood Elves with -Faith- like Lady Liadrin who slowly developed the golden eyes, so usually Priests and Blood Knights. It seems to be the case that the Eye colour is slowly purging itself of Fel in some cases, those with Faith in the Light growing a golden hue to their eyes, those of the Arcane growing back to the blue colour, and those inbetween (Typically Farstriders, who are neither Arcane based, or necessarily Faithful) still retaining the Fel Green, a process that will likely fade. This has not happened to Grand Magister Rommath, who is the most powerful mortal mage on Azeroth mainly because he has not had a model update yet. Lor’themar, as a Farstrider ranger still has a green eye.

Interestingly the eye glow is not permanent, and there is likely a point as a child at which they develop whichever colour, Sylvanas’ ‘Warbringer’ flashback notwithstanding (as nobody had any eye glow in that, better to convey emotion) we know the actual -real- eye colour of only three Blood Elves without any glow. Lanesh the Steelweaver has naturally blue eyes, and never had Fel-green, as he lived in Dalaran during the presence of the Fel Crystals which were junked at the end of TBC, Liadrin’s natural eye colour is Hazel, and Lor’themar’s eye colour is brown.

Because they always could have had, but it would be on their MRP/TRP, Brigante for example (going by AD sever headcanon) is one of those Blood Elves with the dubious honour of being a ‘blue ear’, one of the Dragonhawk riders duking it out with Arthas’ Frostdrakes at Icecrown, the freezing temperatures and biting wind chill five hundred feet in the skies meaning many Elven Dragonhawk riders suffered horrible frostbite, especially as they had grown up in perpetual Springtime, as such, some lost ear tips, or like Brigante have small chunks of their ears missing, where Physicians had to remove the affected flesh, that would otherwise spread and poison the surrounding flesh, especially when coupled with the necrotic energies surging around the place.
It’s just a character model thing, you might as well ask what cultural imperative makes Night Elf Females bounce up and down, or a 10,000 year old being that has seen the rise and fall of kingdoms talk like a Californian Valley Girl (Yes I’m looking at you, Night Elf woman in the Farondis region “And Farondis was totally like, Nuh-uh, and blasted Aszhara with magic, like no way!”)

It’s a customisation, it fits the racial theme, it doesn’t matter if it was never on the model before, they add new things all the time that actually are not a new development , and they also add things that are a new development.

You can get these star arcane tattoos using either explantion.

Exactly, some of these things you have becuase you always could have had it and itw as just not shown, other times it’s a development in the lore but one that either fits the race or becomes part of it becasue of the development.

Ultimately, whatever route leads to it, it’s feasible, plausible, but why do it?

BECASUE IT IS FREAKING COOL – and for a change, this one at least makes sense.

why not give nelf/nightborne males a Nicolas Cage face :stuck_out_tongue:

Can’t they at least have a face that looks actually attractive. Like this

Night elves can and should be nice looking

yeah night elf males need more beautiful face options. Too many wrinkles, i think only 1 option for normal face without wrinkles.

If I may add a fourth elf into this, I believe they stated that in lore Sylvanas has grey eyes.

That is kinda what I was saying. It would be awesome to have that customisation as an option, but you can kind of ‘have’ it if you use RP additions, but broadly, I agree, it would be nice to actually be able to reflect that with your character model.

I 100% agree.

Yeah, that’s the one I went for with my Kaldorei druid, I mean I get the whole living in nature makes you look rugged thing, but they went too far with the Kaldorei, by making there only be one option that wasn’t. I mean look at Blood Elves, you -can- be a gnarly old Wizard like Rommath, or a grizzled Farstrider like Lor’themar Theron, or a younger, cleaner looking character like Halduron or Aethas. So why don’t Kaldorei get the same options?

You are absolutely correct. I knew there was a fourth that was picking at my brain but I couldn’t remember. yes, they gave her hazel eyes in her 'Warbringer’s ’ flashback, but lorewise she does have ‘tempest grey eyes’, which -probably- because of genetics mean that Alleria and Vereesa have grey eyes as well (all the best people do, not that I’m biased!) Actually, why am I using ‘best people’ when referring to two war criminals and a void abomination! But yes, you are right, Sylvanas has grey eyes.

Indeed, too far, funny, the old models look better becasueat least there you had 3 options that had no wrinkles, looked more angular/defined, and the neck wasn’t jutting forward.

I think they forgot that night elves werne’t human, and forgot that actually, by lore, these guys would most likely be quite fresh faced, youthful and healthy.

Rather thanworn and battered… it’s like two conflicting themes for them are runnign around, lore envisioned one thing for them, but character design went for something else

I mean the night elves in the comics and other media arrt material all look pretty good looking and smooth faced - which you would expect from people on arcane and nature juice… it’s like health glow all te way…

But they think oh, 10,000 years old, must look really old, but then forget they were immortal, immune to elmeents, enhanced by life boosting arcane energies from their well,a dn channel nature magic which is just life, health, life , health - i mean they’d have the best organic foods witht he best nutrients in the soil for the most fertile produce and trees… .there is no freaking way they’d look so old

furthermore, most of them like sleep for thousands of years… talk about beauty sleep, in a climate controlled cavern, away from the sunlight and elements (even though they were immune to it)

The only ones that would be old looking should be those that immortality kicked in when they were already advanced in years… but it still doesn’t make sense…with all that rejuvenating energy from nature, an the life enhancing energy from the arcane well of eternity and moonwells - one thing that shouldn’t touch them is age.

Same for the highborne ones and non-druid ones - the non-druid ones would still be pretty healthy as all the other factors minus rejuvenating nature magic would be present. if priest, life for light magic would boost and if highborne, they’d be ensuring those arcane magics keep them looking as beautiful and blemish-free/spot less as possible

Really the only elves that should have wrinkles are demon hunter elves or potentially rogue ones who use shadow magic.

I really hope they can reogranise character creation to reflect and literally show some of these diverse groups the optiosn give us access too.

Let people know it’s a wildhammer dwarf that you are picking when you get those tattoos, or you can choose itt o be a wildhammer because a preset of sorts is available.

Remember to leave a polite suggestion in the ingame support suggestion box that female night elves need a new idle animation set without bouncing randomly. Their idle animation needlessly sexualises them and robs them of their dignity.

Fixing their /clap and /cheer would be nice too.

An animation studio that at least allows you to alter

  1. The idle stance of your character
  2. The default face expression of your character (not everyone wants their character to scowl or growl)
  3. Choice between weapon swing animations
  4. Choice between caster animations
  5. Can switch your dance animations

That would cost so many raid tiers!

Haven’t they long since grown past those limitations? Where improvements that should be part and parcel will now cost raid tiers?

Evidence: Look at how quick they were to add new Nightborne faces, from request to actually materialising, in a minor patch like 9.1.5, shortly after the request was made.

The star tattoos and star effects are already in game - Tyrande’s model has them, the Astral form glyph for moonkin form has a star shower effect…it won’t cost a raid tier to make all of these additions… they can probably do it in a few hours work.

They absolutely can. The raid tier excuse was always nonsense.
