sub counts is not the major thing when it comes for milking money, micro-transaction is, a couple of thousand heavy payer players? buying/using shop “Deluxe Edition/mounts/pets & using service like transfer/name change/boost” can be better than millions of players who only pay the monthly fee, and blizzard is still earning ALOT Of money which is enough to make them not care.
also re-releasing classic, classic tbc(with boost) & the re-re-releasing of classic soon again & laterclassic Wotlk? that won’t make them panic regarding earning tons of money without even working on any new things or wasting time/resources.
i believe that this game will never die for 3x reasons
1-all other games are trash so no one can find proper replacement.
2-even if wow is trash it is still fun & anyone can be attached to it easily.
3-the world population is increasing & it’s expected that many new players join wow at any point to replace the quitters. “you don’t think that the same people who started this game at 2005 are the only people who’s playing till now”

-sorry for saying this! but a player need to be retarded to not be aware of how trash this game has become over the past few years regarding every aspect of the game.
-However as long as the player enjoy what he/she is doing? then he/she can still have some fun, it doesn’t matter if it’s pve/pvp/questing/doing old achievements/farming transmog/mounts OR even playing battle pet! everyone have his/her own point of view when it comes to sucking the fun out of this utter trash game, some people only play cus their friends are playing & Others are playing just to waste time treating it as offline game & the majority of players are only playing to get real cash out of wow. in the end? even the most trash online game outta there? Still have many fans & Lovers & that doesn’t make it no-trash game.

As one wise man (Garrosh Hellscream) said: Times change. People dont want to farm anymore, they want to fun, and there are alternatives. Just because it “always was like that” does not mean that it has to be like that too.
Lets compare it with popular games right now, like LoL, fortnite and CSGO. Do you have to farm there? Nah. You could argue that you would need to farm to unlock champions in lol but it happens extremely quick and you start right off the bat playing the game, doing the actual content.
Once you get a few champions and level 30 you can immidiately jump in ranked mode and be on the same level as everyone else.
Good luck doing it here once you hit max level. Good luck doing arenas like that.

but they want to farm for stuff that matters - aka gear and items giving them power progression
they indeed dont want to farm for transmog / mounts anymre
why ? because who cares about cloak nr 271378213621786 or mount number 600+ - you usually use 2-3 .
thats why they grind in FF14 - and ignore wow endgame
ebcause wow engame is not rpg endgame anymore - its instance symulator ad 2021 - not rpg game in endgame.

Preach did not leave due to the Blizzard thing, he left because of the current system bloat and how the system is not friendly to people who want to mythic raid and push high keys. Of course the way he shredded MethodJosh and Method when they had their own issues, Preach had no choice but to leave WOW or he would have looked like a hypocrite to continue streaming.

Blizzard got the idea a couple of expansions ago, probably from the MASSIVE success of transmog in MoP, that we would chase cosmetics forever.
But there are limits.
Asmongold and AnnieFuschia can try to get 100% on all the AllTheThings categories, but most of the rest of us are worn out. I use 7 mounts plus the Yak across all my characters of all levels, plus two more ground mounts to replace two of the flying mounts when I’m grounded. That’s it. I can’t imagine wanting more mounts.
Toys? I use Katy’s Stampwhistle. Rarely. That’s about it. I see I do still have Angler’s Fishing Raft and Soft Form Sword starred, but a) they aren’t really toys and b) I can’t remember the last time I used either. I do use the Safari Hat (+10% pet XP), but that also is a toy only by courtesy. It was a real thing, and they made it a toy to save bag space. That’s all I ever use.
Transmog? Please, spare me. I have no idea how many patterns I have and how many there are.[*] I have a standard mog for each of my characters. Maybe someday I’ll want another, and if I do I’ll go out and get it. But I have no interest in collecting more patterns I will never use.
Pets? I actually do collect pets, but it’s gotten crazy. I have exactly 1337 uniques at the moment. 
Nobody can use them all.
Cosmetics have given Blizzard a lot of rope over the last several years, but I think they are running out of rope now.
[*] P.S. So I had to look. I seem to have about half, or a bit less, of the available appearances for each slot for a Plate wearer, and a bit more in Cloth. I’m sure I have less in Leather, and less again in Mail.
