Please please don’t dumb down the hardcore challenge by allowing players to use the AH and Mail and Trade , if you are going to do this at least give us the option to chose full on hardcore with no AH Trade or Mail on the Character selection screen . We then could have different in game nameplates so we can be told apart from players who are doing EasyCore …
Agreed but token and shop with mounts would be awesome.
I always understood that the “no AH” rule HC players imposed on themselves was there to prevent a HC player from getting benefits of non-HC origin (since the HC players were mixed with non-HC ones).
But if there are no non-HC players on HC servers, the rule is no longer necessary.
It was, same for trading and using the mail. The only rule on Blizzard’s HC realms is the one death, and there may be some exceptions to that if you die on a flight path for instance. It’s in the wowhead article on the stream.
HC with trading and AH is going to be much more fun. It’s going to be a unique economy and a unique experience. If you so badly want SSF, why dont you keep playing bloodsail bucaneers with the addon?
Enabling full trade will have some effects, even though there are no non-hc characters. I think enabling some trade is great, since it allows for an mmo to be an mmo. However, there are some things that will happen that aren’t great in my opinion. Would be best with some tweaks to mitigate the problems while not imposing full SSF.

Mains will be able to kit out alts with gold, bags, gear, enchants, etc. Personally, I find the “fresh with every character” aspect of hardcore one of the biggest upsides to it. Even if I decide to not trade between my own characters as a self imposed challenge, I will still run dungeons with twinks, and I find that a bit off turning.

You will be able to send gold and other rare items to a bank alt to safeguard them from character loss. This deminishes the risk of losing your character. I think it will become common practice to do this, because I mean, why woulnd’t you safeguard your wealth?
If bots weren’t a thing it might be an interesting economy. But they are…
In my opinion trading should be restricted to other characters not more than 3 levels above or below your own.
Leveling up by soloing stuff in quest greens 'till 60 is not only dumb but also against everything this game is all about.
What the HC realms really need is to ensure content will never be trivial and too easy. I’m pretty happy with what Blizzard has already planned but i’d add one more feature:
- Gray and green level mobs give no exp nor loot.
This would be a solution for boosting and also makes sure quests and dungeons are done on appropriate level rather than playing safe grinding lower level mobs.
I would say you are already doing EasyMode by using Dungeons and Stat gear
But isn’t how you get the fancy gear the point here? The fun part is chasing that gear, and getting that special feeling when you get it only really vanilla has managed to achieve. This of course includes saving up and buying it off the AH, or farming mats to have someone craft it for you. Sending it from a high level character where the cost of the item is trivial destroys that entire aspect of the progression.
Yes, the fun part really is in chasing the gear. In HC there should also be the need for doing so. The game should pose such a threat to the players they would do everything they can to get that gear.
Unfortunately, WoW Classic in its current form is not particularly challenging game and for that reason HC players have invented ways to voluntarily gimp their characters to make the game feel more punishing. Now would be a good time to fix this and make these official HC realms different from regular realms by beefing up the game instead of restricting game features.
In my head at least, it’s two different topics. One is the progression, and one is the level of challenge. Regardless of the level of challenge, getting resources from a main (or high level friends) diminishes the sense of progression you experience on your journey with that character. Tuning the game to “twinks” sounds really awful. In my experience, the game isn’t trivial as it is right now. It isn’t super hard either, but it can go south really quickly unless you play it extremely safe.
bots will exist regardless and there is not amount of protection that is enough (unless blizzard employs people who do nothing but banning people every day, but that’s is not efficient i guess, and they probably prefer to ban in waves)
having said that, i don’t see the big problem if somebody will finally be able to trade and send items. i know for one that i always send stuff to my alts, and in a world where you only have 1 life, is the wisest things to do.
A compromise would be enough, trading at 20, AH at 30 or w/e… at least players will have earned it. I see a lot of people speaking as if after the first week, without some restrictions, it won’t just be business as usual for sellers and bots. The cluster will just be another S hole.
Edit: I also saw an interesting point someone else raise, in that things like level restrictions… they literally don’t know how to do it with w/e classic code they have
Just do OG IronMan - no stats gear, no dungeons and no potions allowed
I’d do it if it wasn’t so boring. Maybe if there was a reward of some sort in the end, like a mount or a title at least.
I still prefer the content being harder and more unforgiving than deliberately gimp my toon for some HC ride.
The result is almost same - except for the first 20 levels contents get harder in comparison to you without stat gear and potions
Are there any challenges whatsoever with rewards like titles, unique mounts, mtx, gear, anything at all? No.
Will there be achievements like “reach lvl X Y Z without ever using blue/green gear” or “using healing pots” or other conditions? No.
So… WHO THE HELL CAAAAAAAARES??
You wanna play it, play it. Tell your friends you didn’t use the ah and didn’t send gold or gear from a main that found cool boe items and then sent it to his alt, which made his leveling gameplay feel 25% better and smoother.
THIS IS NO RACE.
THERE ARE NO REWARDS.
NOBODY FREAKING CAAAAAAAAARES.
Allowing trade and ah and boosting and everything does not take anything away from anyone.
It’s unbelievable how such a simple notion does not compute with these self declared 300iq geniuses. My god.
You guys sound like little babies throwing a tantrum “but i wanna have it my way because I wanna waaaaaaah waaah waaaaaaaaah”.
As it was always A personal challenge!
