Old character models gone?

This sucks. I wonder if it was because certain races (such as night elves) couldn't use the old models because of Illidari and the new Allied Races, so instead of fixing that they decided that nobody should be able to flick the old models on.

No, I'm quite sure their plan was to destroy our original models all along. It was just a matter of timing, starting with some races and making flimsy excuses for those, and now all.

It's cost-cutting for future maintenance. They don't want to have to maintain two sets.
This is not about maintenance. This is about purposefully maiming.
Good thing in my opinion. People should learn to embrace change. I've played the game its whole lifespan and despite that, I've blissfully forgotten the old models. Now that I go back to looking at them, they're ridiculously dated and low-resolution.

I was against some of the new models at first too, but now I've either gotten used to them or just flat out prefer them.

Saying that you can "no longer play the game because the character looks different" is both melodramatic and either flat out BS or you have some bigger issues to worry about.

I didn't even know you could select the old models still

Me neither. The new ones look so much better compared to the blocky old ones.

I like the new models also but I don't see why people shouldn't have the option.
Even if they are old textures slapped onto new skeletons.
I also take what my character looks like very serious, I mean I leveled a character from 20 to 110 just for a hat lol.
I would also be very upset if they changed it in a way they didn't like.
Here's hoping its one of many bugs in the game right now.

They've already said they plan on updating Worgen & Goblins during BfA.
Personally I can't wait. I love Worgen but the females looked so much better before they turned them into chihuahuas with rabies in the final release.
They could do with so much more love. How awesome Genn looks right now bodes well.
Regardless of debating if players should move forward with this or not, such change going in undocumented is pretty disappointing.

Unfortunately, with the update of the world creatures & environment, we have probably passed a point when there is no turning back. But what Blizzard could do is to keep adding new faces to the existing races to make up for the past mistakes.

Model update is one of the biggest artistic bummers in the history of this overally top notch creative team of devs. If their goal was to feel old character vibe in the new skin, it failed beyond words. I still can't get over with what they did to draenei females, turning them into bug-eyed strangers. But even if it is not possible to see the old ones again, it is possible to improve the situation by adding faces which will resemble the old ones a bit more. If they can change blood elf lips in this patch, it means they still could improve much more here.

I don't get how anyone can find the old models to look better than the new ones, in any way. But to each their own, I think having options will always be a good thing. I guess those old models will now be reserved for the classic servers.

The discussion has been generalized but the point is not that all the new models are worst that the old one (i.e. i like the work they did on the orcs), but that for "historic" characters some of us are really tied to the original face we put on then so long ago.

That's why i posted that the optimal solution it could have been just COPY the expressions of the old characther on the new scheletron (new graphic level of detail of Dx11/12 but same expression of your beloved char)
Now I regret for preordering bfa, there are too many bad changes in it,I want refund. 8'(

I'm so angry! How can they just expect us to take this? we pay them. Making my happy characters looking like depressed, deadbeat crackheads Is not something I want to see after all these years.
they better get this sorted! and don't even get me started on the UI...

The 'Blocky old ones' have a charm that cannot be replaced.

On undead female there are so many texture stretching errors half of the xmogs i want to use, are unusable. on the new models that is, thats why I used the old models till patch that forced me to use the new.
Thanks to Honeylock for the suggestion, I found some goggles to cover my bug eyes and make this character at least tolerable to play now.

For those who don't understand these complaints (including Blizzard apparently) I'll try to explain...

Let's say Blizzard servers got hacked and a few thousand players had their accounts and characters deleted along with the backups, so no chance of recovery. Blizzard offer a new account and free level 110 boost with current raid gear as compensation.

What would you do? Would you just start playing the new character like nothing had changed? So you lost your titles, mounts, achievements, transmogs. But none of those matter and are just for appearance, right?

Or would you feel that it's time to quit 'cause your original character and all the memories of playing it are gone and this new one just isn't the same?

I'm sure some would continue and not be too bothered and that's fine... but for others it would be time to walk away. That's how some of us feel about the old models, the new ones just aren't our old characters, they're some other character.

Maybe the problem is not so much that the old models have been removed, but that some of the new models (gnome females in particular) look *nothing* like the old ones. They may as well be a different race. For example I like the new dwarf models, also I had no problem when the druid cat and bear models were updated, because all retained the spirit of the original.

If the new models *actually looked similar to the old ones* then I doubt it would be an issue, at least for most who are complaining here.

Never pre-order in the first place!

You only damage further the games industry if you do so!

After playing for some time i don't even remember the old ones. You will get used to them

I don't think my FPS will get used to them. I understand Blizzard can't cater for 32 bit machines, but I'm using an £800 4 year old laptop 64 bit, and my framerate plummeted down to 20 because of all the changes this patch such as lowest shadow setting being updated, new models being forced, new spell animations, then I still need to enter the new zones which have better textures than the current zones. I was playing with 30 fps 2 days ago, now I have to delete all my addons to raid and change how I've been playing for 10 years just to try and get back to some level of decent FPS because Blizzard have to increase the minimum requirement instead of just increasing the recommended. There is literally no reason for this. This change is stupid as you can toggle it client side and only affects the individual user, "new models" and having to reduce render scale by 10% does NOT look better than 100% render scale with old models. This change is literally the dumbest.
The new demon hunter missy is actually pretty decent to model. More options than previous models. Fancy smooth skin, red lips. And you can pretty much remove horns, eyeglow and tattoos. I expect a demon monster to be monsterous, but if you like you can make a pretty nelf.

And there is me, with my 5 options for crackhead.
Forth day and still no blue that consider this tread.
I'm curious to know if there is a minimum amount of posts required to grab the attention of someone of the Blizzard team....
