But you don’t watch Adult films in public, or at least I hope you don’t.
Just as you don’t have to do ERP in public. Of cource it is bad to do stuff like that to kids, but it’s not like 12-13-14 year olds don’t watch stuff on the internet. And it is quite easy to tell who is below a certain age, so as long as you tage procautions, I don’t see a reason to go and BASH people who just try to do stuff they enjoy. Of cource it would be prefered if they did it on games, made for such, but seeing as their are basically none and WoW already has the community, people just find it easier to do it here.

i know this is a late reply – but this coming from a level 90 off-realm alt poster is maybe the funniest / least self-aware post i’ve ever seen on this forum
Do you ERP by any chance?
I don’t no.
You never heard of Second life?
I did, and it has no resemblance to WoW. People do it here because it has the fantasy feeling and they are used to it. It allows for some different encounters and such. And I still believe there are slim to no games made for such.
Two, consenting adults can do anything they please providing it’s legal and on the relevant platforms. WoW, unsurprisingly, is not one of these. If two people meet on warcraft and both parties willingly take it to discord, it’s absolutely none of my business.
However, in most cases, it’s one party trying to coerce the other into explicit roleplay. I’ve been inundated with countless whispers over the years asking, even begging, for ERP. I’ve been in guilds where the GMs and officer circle have emotionally manipulated and forced other people to play out erotic scenes. Many ERPers specifically target lonely and desperate teens (even children) and threaten to end their friendship if they refuse; it’s a story I’ve heard countless times from many of my friends. Even I, when underaged, had a man message me several times a day in an attempt to coerce me into cyber in early WotLK. One of the reasons I left the troll community is that the majority of IC interactions were from people who were only interested in ‘mating’ or ERPing with my characters. None of this behaviour should be defended by anyone. Taking it to dungeons doesn’t make it a victimless crime.
I’d just rather people kept their cyber off WoW-- and saught out fellow adults on the appropriate 18+ platforms. There’s no need to bring innocent and unwilling participants into your erotica.
I have luckily never heard such stories, and I am sorry you had to endour such things. I agree that people should take it to placed beside WoW, indeed. But that doesn’t change the fact that people do it on WoW.
idk about ERP or anything, but on the whole ‘naming & shaming’ fiasco.
If your first reaction to someone calling out an action of yours is ‘shame’, then I think you should really reconsider your actions. If people do something detestable and that something is brought up, then it’s a good thing that it was brought up.
Why can’t people just keep their erp shenanigans into an isolated/phased area to avoid all this unnecessary drama, jfc. When you look at it it’s really simple to sate both sides, keep your silly stuff secluded and no issues will erupt.

Wow, something usefull said from a HoC member. I’m impressed. Or rather, slightly usefull.
grabs popcorn
I’m taking legal action against EPRers. I’ve eaten at least three buckets of popcorn while reading this biblical thread and now I’m fat. See you in court.
I don’t care what consenting adults do in private. Here’s the problems though as I see them:
- If they kept it in private we wouldn’t know about it.
- Few seem to go to efforts to verify that their ERP partner is in fact an adult.
- If the ERPer attempts to solicite ERP via whispers ingame or on discord etc, this can be very uncomfortable for the target, who may very well be underage as well. If nobody discovers the ERP because the doer does the deed in private and dungeons, it frees them up to continue this soliciting behaviour. It’s ofc not all who ERP who acts like that but I get several such unwanted whispers each week, I know I’m not the only one, and it’s not only uncomfortable but goshdarn annoying. - and no, none of my profiles encourage ERP.
TL;dr : Just because you don’t see the predator, doesn’t mean it’s not stalking in the shadows. It just means you haven’t been preyed on. I feel these terms are hyperbolic but I lack a better comparison.
And what about people that go out of their way for setups?
ERP is weird sure but not against the rules.
ERP is literally RP that focuses on erotica. Blizzard aren’t supposed to allow such things in a game which is played by young and old alike. PG13 is an important thing they’ve always upheld with their WoW expansions and them not keeping it actually PG13 due to the heresy that is Goldshire is baffling. How is it exactly not against the rules?
Technically?
Usually the ESRB doesn’t cover online interactions.
So as long as what is on the disk that goes for the ESRB to check over contains PG13 material, they earn a PG13 rating.
The reason why the ESRB doesn’t usually cover online interactions is well… there is little to nothing a developer can do to stop someone logging into their game and screaming curse words down the microphone.
Also if you want to be super annoying about it, any RP that involves taking drugs, or gratutous violence, would also push the rating above PG13.
But hey, could be worse it could be the Japanese rating system, which has actual measurements for how much thigh flesh can be on display before your rating changes.
When you can take steps to avoid contact with it, such as blocks or the disabling of chat, they can, as Rogmasha mentioned, point to those features as proof you have options to control what you see.
It’s only when you’re forced to see it (Say if someone randomly starts ERPing with you, you block them and then they log an alt to continue) that it gets into the realm of breaking the rules.
There are certain things that can’t be avoided however such as TRP profiles which I believe are now being checked as if they were put into say.
Or we could just grow a pair for once.
