New peeve; unable to understand Matrix code to decipher Chieun’s message.
“The problem with old void user RP is that it tends to be somewhat comprehensible to bystanders. The void doesn’t follow logic of reason aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH”
I think
Us death knights hold quite the resistance to the power of the void, that’s why I can translate it.
Welcome to a core issue of primarily-text communities and the parasocial relationships that form around them.
Ironic detachment is the cool way to deal with it, because pretending you have thick skin and that nothing matters except your memes was a cultural hot take for a few years in just about every layer of media.
There’s unquestionably some very interesting sociology and human behavioural psychology studying to be done there.
Yeah, I get the reasons for things being as they are - an in my first year at university, as well as the first half of my second, I was in on that whole thing and thought it was cool as well.
Now it’s just kind of depressing.
Relatable - thankfully I got off that train a few stops before Uni.
Who are you to decide how sensitive I’m being? I am offended!
Movie critics. Watched Venom last night and I really enjoyed that movie. Tom Hardy was great in the role as Eddie and it was doing good. Writing may have not been the best but it definitely wasn’t bad as most people say.
And game critics in turn.
Now, I think we all can value someone expressing a well thought-out opinion a piece of medium, be it a videogame, movie or anything that you can really interact with. Not sure how food critics work though, since taste buds are on an entirely different level.
But I guess what really can be peeveworthy in regards to critics, is how they seem to be seen as “People with the most valuable opinion”, and in turn people thinking that if they don’t like something, then it must indeed be bad (I will admit, I am guilty of this line of thinking as well sometime, avoiding something after a review saying that it’s not so good).
And can it also be fair of me to say, how game critics can be pretty unreliable as well? At least critics/journalists that work in the big game outlets such as IGN and the like, independant critics can be a hit or miss, as it is with any videogame or the like.
At least I don’t know about you folks, but there have been mainstream journalists and critics making some pretty strange waves that show contempt to consumers as of late, so I thought it’d be fair to say
The fact that I have to go trough Underrot over and over again to get the weapon I want for my Zandalari. This dungeon is actually just horrible since people try to skip stuff and NEVER succeed. It’s actually the worst dungeon in the expansion.
It’s extremely cool looking, but not very pug friendly.
But then that is true for a lot of dungeons.
Eh, I disagree with many game critics very often, and I do think there’s an issue of many website functioning more like PR for AAA publishers rather than actual places for journalism, but it’s very rare for me to think that a reviewer was paid to praise a game or whatever.
I admit I can’t help raising an eyebrow when someone says something I think is ridiculous (like some of the criticism people had for BotW defeated the purpose of the game - in my opinion) but, at the end of the day, we’re all human and have varying opinions. I’ll agree that some do tend to express their views as if they’re the be-all and end-all, but these are dying down and I feel that a lot of them tend to be rather tongue-in-cheek (for example someone like Jim Sterling, who jokingly acts as if his opinions are objective, but doesn’t actually mean it).
In terms of them being anti-consumer I’m sort of in two minds. There are times when gamers act like entitled children (like if a developer makes little girls less sexualised in a port of a Japanese game and the creepy paedo gamers call it censorship) and can be called out for it, but there are cases like the Diablo thing where I think calling people entitled was over the top.
Initially I kind of agreed and thought it was entitled but, the more I read about it and saw where people were coming from, and that people were giving better thought-out arguments than the usual GamerGate nonsense or whatever, I realised that calling people entitled over being angry that Blizzard teased something and then delivered something worse than if they hadn’t delivered at all was pretty bad. I don’t think it was intentional on the journalists’ behalf, but more of a knee-jerk reaction due to seeing similar stuff happening elsewhere and they thought they were defending the developers who probably wanted no part in Diablo Immortal.
If you want some actual good games journalism though, I’d highly recommend Eurogamer. They do a lot of good articles. While Kotaku is infamous for its clickbait and often silly articles, some people like Jason Schreier do interesting long-form articles on games and the like.
Oof, that ended up being a long response!
People who bring IC into OOC.
If my character interacts with you or does an action that you find questionable or that you don’t agree with, speak to my character about it rather than whispering me OOC as if I am to blame. My character has their own personality and their actions aren’t always a reflection of mine.
Such is the nature of the RP beast.
Peeve; having absolutely zero motivation to do anything ingame still. I’m not a raider, nor a PvP’er. I don’t like to play auction houses. RP is becoming a stagnant mess where, judging by the forums consensus alone, many seem to agree with. I miss the days staying up til sunrise shooting the with buddies IC.
A lil part of me is worried that’ll never come back.
Heaven forbid someone asks “Ahoy, what kind of roleplay do you have need of me?”, as opposed to doing the honorable, and probably more time consuming act of tracking you down (With a chance that you’re gonna be upset that they used a /who Search and then just flew around to find you), and then doing the Roleplay…
I’ll elaborate a little.
What I wrote was a very vague example because I didn’t want to go into too much detail. I don’t mind people asking me for RP and whatnot, but when someone is whispering me “What did so-and-so want?” “What did they want to say?” “Are you going to tell me, hm?” instead of approaching me when they’re literally stood a few steps away from me, THAT is my pet peeve. Because the tone is hostile and impatient. I’m obviously not going to blow a gasket over someone asking for RP in a friendly manner like you gave as an example. It was a lot more unpleasant.
That and I had another person whispering me saying “I could drag her over?” “Want me to go and get her?” to me, instead of the OTHER person whose whispering me “what do you want?” whilst stood beside me.
Ah, that makes it a bit clearer. At first I thought you were peeved about how you leave a message, and then when that person logs in and whispers “Hey, what’s up?”, then react with the peeveness, which well. Thank you for the elaboration.
This… Is kinda confusing to me, and makes me want to dig up a picture of Lurr from Futurama, with a tagline saying “This confuses and enrages me!”.
Though I’m not an alien who is a delicious snack when a baby.
I’ve edited my post so it makes a bit more sense, because I realized I made it sound that I dislike it when people whisper me in general which isn’t the case.
The person in question was meant to be whispering someone else about me, but was instead whispering to me about me!! Good times.
Think I’d go on a related topic to a few posts ago, people who insist their character is -totally- out of their control, that it’s somehow sentient and they, the human behind the keyboard, can in no way control it.
You can. You do. You are responsible for -everything- your character does. That doesn’t mean crossing OOC and IC or holding idiotic grudges but… timing and appropriate behaviour to a given situation still matter.
Read a situation before having your zany, wild, uncontrollable character bust in shooting guns in the air screaming about how you rode a wild dog. A bad example and one that probably never happened but it’s late and I’m tired, so it’ll do.
Think what I’m saying is people not staying appropriate to a given scene.
Everything is character bound on the forums now. Activity history, notifications, thread settings, even trust level progress. Everything.
Why is this a thing? This makes it really annoying if I ever go back on Horde-Chieun as a main.
