I got kinda turned off from the series after all the waifuing going on. Between shipping characters, head patting mini games and fan service. The newest game looks dope but I’m kinda hoping it got just a touch less… Overly weeby.
I mean yeah it’s a Japanese game and it’s always had an anime art style but in recent games it got a bit heavy handed. Not go mention the bastardised localisation that completely changed characters.
Fates was definitely the worsts for waifuing, this one looks to be better.
Shipping characters has been a thing of the series for a while, either for platonic friendships or for romance. The devs apparently did listen to the backlash to Fates more…questionable aspects (petting) though, so fingers crossed.
Aye, not a fan of that.
Trying to buy a Lego castle set for my nephew but Lego in their infinite wisdom stopped producing medieval stuff entirely a few years ago.
Like… Seriously? They just don’t do medieval stuff full stop anymore? What the heck?
Playmobil it is
Hold on. HOLD IT RIGHT HERE. What?

Yeah apparently their Castles series ended in 2015. No more medieval stuff. Except NexoKnights and Ninjago?
Well damn. I thought about buying something like this for my goddaughter…
Well. Damn.
Tbh I’m just waiting impatiently for my daughter to reach the age where I can go into toy shops with her and buy things that I want to play with like LEGO.
I know right? It seems like a no brainer to at least have a handful of medieval sets. Building a castle out of bricks is like Lego 101. The City line is the only eternal line it seems
I just want them to bring back my god damn Bionicle. Trying to find new or sealed OG Toa is near impossible.
A man of culture. I still have my black Bohrok somewhere. I loved him.
I still have all six original Toa Mata, all six original Bohrok, most of the Nuva, half the Metru… After that I kinda only got one of each line up but still. I wanted to get a Metru for my nephew but shipping from abroad would take forever.
On the plus side a few years back a former Dev dropped an unfinished version of the never released Legend of Mata Nui PC game. And modders have fixed it, added new content and visuals and more. Good stuff. Hoping they eventually add the Makuta final boss that never got finished. The game as a whole was somewhere between Zelda and Metroid.
I must have some of the Toa Mata. All of them I believed, some of the Bohrok & all of their ‘upgraded’ version (which are FAR WORSE THAN THE ORIGINAL!)… And other lines.
I stopped after the Piraka, I don’t know why. I just… I guess fell out with the serie? But I still have all 3 movies. And NGL. The third one is still a bomb.
I am sorry but VAKAMA as a VILLAIN was badass!
Oh dear. Now I need to find where I’ve stored them.
Unfortunately a handful of the ones I owned have been lost to time. Hordika Vakama for example. My mum and I decided to rebuild as many as we could.
At least I still have Axon, the ABSOLUTE UNIT.
Piraka and Inika was where I started to lose interest as well. Which is unfortunate because the Mahri sets were kickass in hindsight and the lore went off the rails in the best way. (THE UNIVERSE IS A GIANT ROBOT)
I only have one of the Bohrok-Kal. They did suck.
If you have an afternoon to kill you can check out the BioMedia project which is an online archive of ALL Bionicle media content that used to be on the site. From animations to web games to comics to music.
Oh and the movie trilogy (We don’t talk about the fourth movie) is available on YouTube for free. A magnificent soul used AI to upscale them to 1080p and 60fps.
Same issue, but with Mario games. Hurry up and age!

Peeve: Without spoiling anything I can tell you I finished the Nazjatar storyline and am only left with the “defeat Azshara in the Eternal Palace” final quest. The questline really solidified how underwhelming Nazjatar is and it doesn’t hold a candle to Suramar.
I never understood the Bionicle craze as a kid. I was all into Pokemon or model trains and vehicles.
Hardly did any lego either…
Because you’re a heathen.

For me the concept was just unique as hell. Robots living on a mysterious Island of tribes, wielding elemental powers and collecting masks to grant them various abilities. That and there were nuggets of story in the TV adverts and web games (including a fairly long point and click adventure, two in fact!) and then the comics and short novels.
The entire premise was just so god damn cool and it’s still god damn cool. Helped by the fact there’s a metric ton of lore covering stuff that they didn’t need to and was never brought up in the toys or comics. You could make a damn RPG module out of the setting.
The only thing that sucks us the lead writer saying actual love between two Toa or Matoran just doesn’t ever happen. Love was literally decanonised. I call BS as there were multiple implied couples throughout the series.
Model trains were dope though. If I had the money and space I’d probably have a model railway in my house today, used to be my dream to have one but then I became a grown adult. Buys old Lego toys off eBay
All I know about Bionicles is watching the two movies and getting some of the toys for birthday as a kid, but it was pretty dope and touching even then.
“I am proud to call you… Brother… Toa Vakama…”
I’M NOT CRYING YOU’RE CRYING SHUT UP

Seriously though Vakama actually had a solid character arc through the latter two movies, liked him the most.
Bionicle was one the things that my little brother’s weirder friends were into in a big way and struck me as being a bit like Sonic the Hedgehog was for people my age for people his age.
