I found Ash, even as a kid to be the most boring character in pokémon generally.

He’s not really relatable, he is just…dumb, like not a little slow but dumb dumb, possibly something wrong with him dumb.

That’s obviously true. However there are a lot of milennials that grew up with the first season and those people still play the games or buy your average Pokemon merch. A more mature Pokemon anime within the guidelines with a replacement protagonist could actually be quite profitable I imagine.

Similar to the manga? Potentially, but getting funding for a niche anime is a hard sell in Japan (and unlikely in America).

Sword Art Online did it with its spin-off and that didn’t have nearly enough mainstream appeal as the generation of people that grew up with Pokemon. I believe there is money to be made here. Just look at the Pokemon Origins and Generations video series (they follow the games) that were generally viewed and adored by adults.

Fwiw I’m told the Pokemon anime of late isn’t too bad, actually quite good at times, specifically X and Y and Sun and Moon, albeit with some flaws like Ash having a concussion between seasons where he forgets the most basic stuff or an annoying side character or ‘young kid’ that tags along.

Sun and Moon might not even take place after X and Y, even with the redesign Ash acts and looks younger and so far there’s only been nods to the original series or thereabouts afaik.

Though there was a point from Advanced all the way up to… Black/White? Where it really was just a slog through 8 gyms, lose league, repeat. Orange Islands was best simply because Ash finally won the league holy damn!

TIL there’s going to be a Playmobil movie.

From what little I’ve seen and know of the film it is so blatantly a cash grab after the success of the Lego movies it isn’t even funny, while also completely missing what made those movies so appealing.

The plot involves real kids getting stuck in a toy world. The characters don’t appear to at all resemble or move like the toys they’re based on unless you squinted.

I am peeved that such a thing can exist.
