Here’s my hot take: I don’t see the big deal in them changing voices in WC3: reforged. The old WC3 is still out there to play if you miss them. As far as I understood it WC3: reforged is sort of supposed to make the transition from the game’s lore to WoW a smoother transition anyway.
It’s going to have changes, that might or might not be a great thing but that’s the way it’s going to be. I look forward to seeing what they’ll do, though I’m not looking forward to their promise of more Jaina. I already have Jaina overload from BFA.
That is very unfortunate. Part of me regrets that I pre-ordered it. I know it’s silly to do so but I am a rather great fan of the original and part of my enjoyment from the game stems from how memorable almost all voicelines are. I can nearly recite the campaign by heart and many, many units, including their easter-egg poking voicelines.
It won’t be the same I suppose, but I’m sure it won’t be outright bad either. I find it to be a needless change but I guess they want people who never played Warcraft 3 to get into it more easily.
I read somewhere that they were going to do this as well, but it was before they publically announced they will also re-write the script to fit the new lore since old wc3. And they did later confirm that they will be using WoW VA’s for the new scripts and stuff.
As much as I like ‘some’ of the WoW VA’s, Warcraft 3 VA’s have a special place in our hearts.
The voice actress for Sylvanas, both alive and undead, did a marvelous job.
Warcraft 3: Reforged is obviously the remaster more in line with the lore established in WoW, so I don’t know who expected the old Warcraft 3 voices back.
Besides all the replacements have been better except for maybe the likes of Malfurion in recent years.
I think one of the more interesting changes they have confirmed doing is that they will split the nameless Captain into Falric and Marwyn and spread out their dialogue between them.
Maybe for him, but others - not so much.
I can’t imagine Patty Whateverhernameis doing the voice over for Warcraft 3 Sylvanas.
If Tyrande’s voice is still part-troll, then that isn’t good.
Arthas should have his Warcraft 3 VA.
That’s interesting, and a welcome change. It would suit those roles better. Here’s to hoping that they kept the voice-actor for them at least. I liked those deep, leader-like voices they had.
He won’t, he cut ties with Blizzard during the creation of WoTLK due to alleged personal mistreatment and extremly low pay offers from them. And considering that they also never re-used voice samples from him again, even during flashbacks to wc3, they probably wont re-use his voice either.
No, it doesn’t, the music uses a bag pipe, a Bag Pipe! Bag pipes aren’t desolate, they’re prideful, there is no desolation or solitude in that song.
FF14’s music across the board is terrible, like when they tried to pull a metal gear revengance but instead of just kicking in a chorus, they switched the song to a pop rocksong that doesn’t fit at all.
You couldn’t be any more wrong. WoW is filled with ambient music that fits the scene. WoD had one of the best sound tracks of WoW’s history. The music fits the setting, and uses instruments that bring out the feel the music is supposed too portray. For Times Change you have heavy sounding instruments with chanting that set out perfectly the Orc’s warpath. Going back to the topic of desert music, Vol’dun uses mostly quiet and calm instruments to bring out solitude and make the place feel barren, then you get to the Sethrak theme that still has those instruments but also has the ones you would expect when trying to portray a overwhelming force. Drazalor has great thematic music the portrays the wonder and pride of this giant Aztec empire, this theme even runs into the raid music for the battle of Drazalor.
I like this. Falric and Marwyn were both decently established characters in the ROTLK novel.
Even if I hate Sylvanas, Patty is an awesome VA. You should have faith she’ll portray Sylvanas accurately with all that experience behind her belt.
Tyrande actually still has the same VA from Warcraft 3. She just changed the accent since Cataclysm for whatever reason.
As for Arthas, I think his modern VA will do the job sufficiently well too.
This makes me very sad. Personally I adore his original voice. It has that perfect level of a “young, brash paladin”. Innocence and passion all-in-one and when he finally turns toward evil he has this near-emotionless tone, only sometimes hinting at an undertone of sadistic and black comedy. I would follow this man! But enough, I need to start making food.
The old VA’s for Jaina and Arthas bounced off each other because they both sounded young and seemingly gave off the impression that both still had much to learn.
Yet I believe Arthas’ modern VA better nails down his stern and brash nature. I definitely prefer Arthas’ lines in the CoS dungeon over Warcraft 3. It just sounds more… convincing the way his resolve is portrayed.
WoW’s music department (and art) have always been great, even if the content is sub-par or mediocre. It’s the one thing I know will never let me down.
