Pet peeves: The return (Part 1)

It honestly sounds more patronizing than anything else. I am able to both play the game with my friends for its own merits and complain about problematic elements in the community, thanks.

I finally unlocked Grombrindal (slayers are not a priority as opposed to artillery, ranged units and shield walls, honestly) and I’m peeved I didn’t recruit him sooner; his entire Blue skilltree is massive, and I mean massive Global buffs.

Update: Clan Moulder has been wiped out (Reikland is Ordertide North at this point) and I’ve reclaimed Kraka Drak. Karak Norn and Karak Hirn have both confederated me, and Thorgrim has just stamped on some Lahmian skulls at Naggashizar, now renamed Karag Barak Uzkular; the Barren Mountain Gate of/against Undead. Yes, I’m a massive geek when it comes to fictional/game languages.)

Again, not my intent or even the tone I was aiming for. Sorry.

When people try to dismiss or minimise the impact this has on the community, it always makes me suspicious, because what motive could they have to be doing that?

(Arch, the delightful person in the last screenshot, has a quarter million subscribers. The impact these people have is not small.)

It’s worse than that. It wants to be both at the same time.

My fairly lefty friends don’t seem to like Age of Sigmar very much (which is what I assume AoS stands for), though I have no idea what it is / involves - nor why it apparently draws in the neckbeard alt-right people.

(By fairly lefty I mean as left as I am.)

Age of Sigmar doesn’t in the slightest, I’ve found, not even online - those sorts mostly busy themselves grumbling about how much better the old Warhammer Fantasy was, before getting mad about non-villainous gay characters featuring in the RPG books for those

AoS doesn’t have many of the elements that makes 40k so appealing to reactionaries.

The human factions are not religiously fanatic to the point of intolerance. There’s zeal, but no fascism, and in the cities of Sigmar you have elves, dwarfs, humans, and even ogres and orcs coexisting.

Also dark-skinned people and women get to be part of the supersoldier faction as well, which for some reason massively enrages some people.

There’s simply put a lot of moral nuance. It’s a very large setting and you can have humans and goblins fight a bitter war in one place and get along in another.

Oh woops, what I meant to say is why not-liking AoS draws in the neckbeards.

Oh yeah, Grombrindal is an amazing hero, I picked him as my starter over Thorgrim. Fun as the High King is, Grombrindal is simply better, and I think Thorgrim is easier to recruit later on too ( Just fulfill 8 grudges).

Grombrindal is better, but playing as Thorgrim just feels right.

oopsie woopsie

My theory is that it’s because the others don’t have Bone Pope Nagash t-posing on everyone, which causes a significant amount of frustration resulting in odd hatreds…

Also, I found that when dealing with a massive Chaos invasion, Lightning Strike is your best friend. Managed to snipe four armies seperately with Grombrindal before they did him in, but weakened Chaos enough for Karl to step in and mop up the rest. And thankfully Chaos didn’t get any further south than Kislev, so my Karaz Ankor remained safe from harm.

Lightning Strike is basically an essential skill, later in the game.

So basically, people like playing space racists / fascists? That much I knew already…

When it comes to AoS, I used to be uninterested in Stormcast Eternals (the supersoldier posterboys) because I thought they were just fantasy space marines.

Then I came across this video, and man was my mind changed. (Warning, semi-incomprehensible memes and leftist viewpoint video ahead)

I plan on collecting some now. In due time.

That’s about the extent of my knowledge on it as well.

My personal gripe is not liking the helmets.

Given I started getting Mortal Realms, I’ve been swapping the helms all out for bare heads. Looks so much better imo ^^

Yeah, the whole thing just doesn’t seem like my kinda vibe

The helmets are definitely hit and miss. The basic Liberators are meh. Retributors are cool.
