Pet peeves: The return (Part 1)

relic entertainment just forgot about DoW and started making AoE4 instead tbh

Why don’t you explain this to me like I’m five, please.

DoW1 was a super arcadey game that didn’t really feel like its source material anyway tbh. I didn’t like it as much as many others, it was just spam spam spam for all factions even where it made no sense at all. Fire warriors were more elite (and expensive) than tactical marines!

Basically, every expansion to Dawn of War made changes for single player and multiplayer.

In the base game, Marines Terminators and Land Raiders were expensive end game units. They cost more and took up more population, but you could have 4 land raiders and an army of Terminators when the rest of your army inevitably got wiped out in the back and forth.

The expacs made Terminators 0-1/unique units, and Land Raiders. The tank got buffed stats, trying to make it equivelant to the newly added Baneblade for Imperial Guard, but it was never really a contender. Regualr Terminators got a massive melee nerf, to try and make the Assault Terminators more ‘special’. It just made both feel awful, honestly.

The same happened to other armies in one way or another, more changing with each expansion, and not for the better sadly.

Meanwhile, the absolute chads that are DoW2 terminators with 1800 health each (Tacticals have 330) and high damage reduction, immune to most forms of knockback, and punching out things both up close and from afar.

DoW2 had it’s own issues, but I can hardly fault the feel of units.

Terminators could just walk through cover, like a bulldozer on legs.
Armed with an Assault cannon. Hmmmmmm~

DoW2 was in some ways perfect. The sound effect, the visual design, the animation, they nailed the feel of it all. Things had weight. Everything from the music, the visual effect of an assault cannon practically chewing through targets, the sync kills, the dreadnought’s mighty voice (virgin DoW1 dread vs chad DoW2 dread), the way they did tyranids… I loved it all.

I just wasn’t as much a fan of the ‘RPG’ elements tagged on at times I think.

And my goodness I missed having an ‘aggressive’ stance on melee centric or, so help me, melee only units; having a unit sat dumb in cover being wailed on because you didn’t micro it for two seconds was SO frustrating.

Storm Ground comes out later this month, so we’ll have to see.

Okay Youtube, getting a bit burned out with all the RE8 playthroughs now.

Can’t wait to play it

in 12 months when it goes on sale for ÂŁ10

Yeah, that’ll be when i buy it again now.

I’ve seen it… just hoping it’s actually good.

Fact: Wood Elves are grumpier than even Dwarves, and they cheat to boot; one of very few units outside Heroes that can snipe (i.e. shoot without being auto spotted). Boo, BOO I say!

Fun fact though; concentrated cannon and rifle fire turns them into pink mist. Silly, fragile Elgi

Speaking of which, Malekith is making a total mess of Ulthuan. Tyrion didn’t confederate everyone and is now on the back foot.
Tch. Never send an Elf to do Dawi work…

Can someone remind me when did Russell Browe left the music team of Wow?

I’m betting after or during BfA because the OSTs of Shadowlands are so… Lame and unmemorable, there’s maybe that one track with the electric guitar in Maldraxxus and the Venthyr’s theme but that’s about it.

I can name BfA’s OSTs and there’s well over 20 I can remember or tell you the zone they’re played in, Shadowlands’ just don’t capture me, I play the game with music off for 90% of the time.

Think BfA, which is when Blizzard also started outsourcing the OSTs to various different composers.

Sometimes they worked (I still love the Dive Bar C from BfA), but…

guess it works as pet peeve: I really hate the sound direction WoW took in WoD. Legion was slightly better than WoD, but while Shadowlands isn’t really great, WoD is still the worst for me.

Tortollans, Vol’dun, Stormsong, Tiragarde, Mechagon and Nazjatar (Only the elf ruins ost) have beautiful pieces.

Squints eyes Look, I can understand if you simply mean the Orcish theme ones because a lot of them are just not working out when it’s a loop you’re forced to hear… But don’t dare diss Shadowmoon Valley in my presence… Or Spires… Or Gorgrond and Talador.

no im gonna diss them all

ironically, even though i have an irrational hate for orcs in WoW, i think it’s only a few select orcish ones from WoD that i would keep and press delete on the rest.

there was also that draenei one that was funky iirc

but the garrison (at least the alliance one, idk if horde had same soundtrack?) one was a hatecrime to my ears

Bad news chief, the leader of the secular transhuman faction in the Imperium is a dying corpse on a chair.

edit: emps is the good guy and its all magnus’ fault

Just gonna drop this here.
