Actual peeve.
I checked, out of curiosity, how a Russian fansubber/fandubber group handled the nonbinary character in the latest episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds. (Russian grammar is more gendered than English one, so it’s harder to stay gender-neutral, and there is no accepted equivalent of singular they.)
Turned out they took the lazy way out and just used feminine grammar. Boo.
If the OOTS translator can avoid gendered grammar for Vaarsuvius, why can’t they?

Maybe it’s a political decision? Was the nonbinary character female presenting?
Hot.
I’ve gone back into Lotro a bit to play again. It’s still peaceful/pretty fun and the graphics are nice.
Gameplay is still a little-dated especially in the old zones. But still enjoyable. Very active community still and lots of roleplay recruitment in worldchat.
Some regions have recieved map updates, Bree’s new map looks incredible. There’s also been a new region called Yondershire added.
The game World is massive, Moria alone is big enough to be the size of Eastern Kingdoms in terms of game-world size. You can now also travel the full journey to Mt.Doom(provided you can go there without dying).
They have also made all previous expansions free as part of the core-base game, even for f2p players. So the only thing you need to buy now aside from maybe some region quest packs if you are f2p, is the new expansion, which takes place in Gundabad.

Maybe I should go to the Rivendell event tomorrow, for old times’ sake.

I actually don’t have any elves myself! My main character I’ve levelled has been a Beorning. I also got a Rohirrim Huntress and now made another Rohan character, this time a Captain just to try the class
I think my inner horsegirl comes out with these Rohan characters.
Mood, Rohan was always my favourite of the kingdoms of men from both the films and books.

I managed to get myself a house in Eastfold, and the entire region is just so beautiful.
understandable, hear the Westfold markets really gone up in flames these days

I looked over there(In Kingstead), and there was only like 2 houses available in every neighbourhood, and they were both super expensive and not in flattering spots.
I got lucky and managed to get the Eastfold House up on a cliff with its own tower!
Edit: Also good joke!

Also that spot sounds gorgeous damn. Im a sucker for homes on an overlook
I deliberately created a non-elf as my first character — specifically, a hobbit. Didn’t vibe with her and created an elf next. >_>

See, I normally play short races in MMO’s, and I like the shire. But there is something with hobbits that don’t really peak my interest.
Probably that if you roleplay one, even if you go something like a Took, you are going to be a very “out of the norm” hobbit to do any kind of grander adventuring/travel further than Bree.

I played a lot of Zelda games and except for the CDI titles I loved them. Then comes around BotW which gets a ton of high praise and I get peeved because it just won’t hold my interest.
Honestly, that’s the problem for me in LOTRO in general. Adventurers are the exception in LOTR-era Middle-earth, not the norm. Most people have no idea what’s happening just outside their backyard; the hobbits of the Shire barely hear news from Bree, and Legolas, a Mirkwood elf, doesn’t know about the affairs in Lorien and Fangorn.
The Fellowship of the Ring was very unusual for the setting, actually pretty damn unique. But since LOTR was such a massive success, the Fellowship has served as a model for adventuring parties in fantasy ever since.

Yeah, and from what I’ve seen in Lotro, alot of the roleplay is true to this, with it mostly being civilians going to the prancing pony to have a drink or otherwise more casual/down to earth rp.
But if you want to do something else, I think it will or can be very limited.
Tobby Tallpoppy was the village carpenter, bereft of ambition beyond making a solid footstool. One day he tripped and fell onto a rock in his garden, severely denting his head and when back on his feet, he had an inexplicable, unorthodox urge to wander.
Now he travels the known world wearing his slouch hat, conveniently concealing the head dent where he keeps his pipe and herbs.

Doubt it was political, more like they may have simply missed it or didn’t care enough to word around it. The character presents relatively female, to the point I only realized they were supposed to be nonbinary about 3/4 into the episode when they were referred to by pronouns.
