Pet peeves: The return (Part 3)

I could imagine this being very tedious to RP with.

Like basically everything cool about TES it was stolen from Glorantha though :stuck_out_tongue:

Thankfully nobody literally tries to RP it, though even then the idea that it gives you access to the game console to write cheat codes with is… shaky, at best.

The only actual qualities we know of what CHIM is, is enlightenment. A state of freedom where you understand the universe and your place in it, free of burdens and restrictions.

Everything else is told to us by compulsive liars + conjecture from Sermons of Vivec which makes the fractals thing make sense in comparison.

elder scrolls games have plot?

I’d argue that all the characters who we’re told are supposed to have ‘CHIM’ are also characters who have had access to genuine reality altering magical power from another source (often a big stompy robot) and are in fact able to do the things attributed to them - because of the alternative power source.

yeah and in the plot of the next ESO expansion the villains are

war profiteers

You’re telling me that my silly little lizard simulator where Everyone Is Elves has lore?

Sounds fake idk

Even the khajiit. Believe it or not – elves.

Or is it the Elves who are Khajiit?

They bleed all the same t. Pelinal

I can agree with this mindset. A lot of the cultures and Daedric aspects of TES are wonderfully designed and very thought-provoking. Yet whenever I stumble across discussions about the setting, there’s no interest in that. It’s all CHIM this and Godhead that - fixation on the esoteric nonsense that barely plays a part in the actual games.

I usually just come to the conclusion that a lot of these people are focused on feeling superior to “less educated” TES fans, who haven’t delved as deeply into Kirkbride’s insanity as they have. I can think of no other reason why someone would be so interested in the bizarre meta nonsense of that franchise’s deepest lore.

Discussing the things that are actually relevant to RP is far more enjoyable to me, personally. It’s part of the reason why I don’t feel very strongly about the cosmic stuff going on in WoW – it’s simply not relevant to my RP or to anyone that I personally know, and despite all the hyperbole about how it “invalidates all lore up until now” – that’s just simply not true.

It barely affects any of the stuff that’s relevant to my RP and I lowkey question what people RP sometimes if it’s reliant on cosmic gods and the player characters. It’s incredibly easy to ignore things that have no bearing on your RP, such as the plot of the Shadowlands. If you don’t believe in object permanence and everything ceases to exist the moment it’s out of the spotlight then that’s probably not someone I’d like to RP with in the first place.

quite literally “oh no! anyway…”

Maybe you should get CHIM to call up some maidens

L + cope + seethe + zero sum + no maidens

tbf zero summing is quite funny, thinking about the universe so hard you stop existing
