Pet peeves: The return (Part 4)

Is this some sort of minmaxing I’m too much of a Paladin to understand. (i will sooner chop off my hands than delay getting all of my precious auras.)

This is fair, though I do like your suggestion of switching some hexblade features to level 5 (and change the patron theme because holy god damn the idea of serving a sentient weapon is incredibly silly)

So D&D 5E paladins have two downsides, which is that

  1. they want several stats to be high (STR/DEX and CHA along with CON) which splits your focus between combat and spellcasting

  2. they don’t have good ranged options, because you can’t smite with bows

Hexblade 1 fixes both these problems by letting you use CHA as your combat stat, gives you some great spells (eldritch blast, wrathful smite, shield) and also gives you a smite every short rest for free since you can use warlock spell slots for them - and you get hexblade curse as a bonus extra. Also the paladin capstones usually stink so you don’t lose out by going hexblade 1/paladin 19 even if you get that far

I was memeing on you. I know how powerful the hexblade or sorcadin builds are, don’t worry.

oops

Well, now somebody else knows

smites you with a bow easily

I have played an archer paladin with a DM who let me take archery fighting style and smite with bows, and it didn’t feel overpowered but hey ho

Was it holy Dadbore?

Town guard in the city full of paladins but that would be funny

It was largely living plain humans, then the super undead with their gigantic bodies started joining.

Stupid quest to free the stupid bird from the stupid storm just won’t complete.

My dream city …

I have some bad news for you about what happens to that city

You have clowed all of them haven’t you?

It gets dragged into hell and then the party needs to follow a stupid winged elephant around aimlessly for a dozen sessions.

Yeah, it’s sadly not a great module

The DM who ran it for us instead set act 2 in us teleporting back into the city in hell and defending against a siege from both devils and demons - finding the contract that bound the paladins to Hell and destroying it too. It was a lot better than the book

Yes please. I want someone else to do all the homework and then TLDR me.

My problem with Wyll is that his story is basically kind of written and I don’t care a lot: there’s the [you-know-who] who has been kidnapped and he has to free her to free himself.
It doesn’t look like he can grow as a character, unlike most others: his quest doesn’t have as many development opportunities as the rest of the group. He’s also less of a wildcard than more interesting wizards.

Astarion is, well, kind of quirky and I like him for that but Oh Lord doesn’t he get cringe at times! (“I think you want to be known” ungh, I’m not 14 anymore!)
He’s saved by the voice actor half of the time. Still his interaction are usually either funny or interesting, and I look forward seeing how his pathway will unfold. He’s also the only one who wants to use the mind power so again, kind of interesting.

The other day in Duskwood I found a person RPing as a magical object (no, not in that way, thankfully). He was quoting extensively from The Last Guardian and I immediately had a Telaryn-representation.

Copy+paste for every 5e adventure

…okay some of the anthology adventures are pretty okay.

Dragon Heist is good!!

Tomb is good too

Dragon Heist is bad and a damn lie.
You don’t do a heist.

oh, we did for sure :sunglasses:
