I just returned from a Tolkien con, where I met lots of amazing and creative people who take Middle-earth very seriously. Seeing it turned into a soulless cash cow by dispassionate writers and directors just working for their next paycheck feels disrespectful to them. And if they do it without rights to The Silmarillion, where all the important context is, it means they’ll have to substitute their own writing — and from what we’ve already observed, they’re no Tolkien. Whenever corporate writers make up their own Middle-earth lore, it invariably sucks.

jim sung a couple of songs that the OG actors of the characters werent able to do themselves. another example is “Savages” in Pochohantas during the Indian Chief’s lines.
he also did it again in Anastasia during Rasputin’s big number. you can really hear it when he says “Terrors THE LEAST I can do.”
speaking of terror, played the new Gw2 chapter last night. Hit the right notes with me at least. Good bit of GW1 nostalgia by introducing an old factions elite dungeon, the Deep back into the mix with some Lovecraftian horror going on. love or hate the game, the PC voice actings always on point. i have concerns for them. they sound very angry and jaded suddenly.

peeve: the new Trading Post items are certainly cool (yes I will get the clown outfit, obviously) but the copy on the Filigreed Lion’s Maw shield says it’s “a forgotten relic of Lordaeronian ceremony”
