Just look at Outland.
Iâve found alot of the dragons to be pretty boring. Iâm still in the process of getting into DF now so will see how itâs changed!
But previously, many of them had potential but ultimately didnât do much for me. Chromie is one of the few exceptions as sheâs been cool since day 1.

Oh how different everything could have been.
Ulduar as itâs own continent is interesting.
Yeah, I think it was in some magazine back when Warcraft 3 was in the pipework but thereâs was a plot point spitballed that tauren once existed on EK but were hunted out by the human kingdoms.
Another iteration of the map; https://gyazo.com/1a78cbd0caa9b665e361bcb4d1d0d40f
Thanks for these maps, they will come handy!
Thereâs probably a better dump with them out there, in fact I think I know someone with a wedge of them but this is a god post with some; https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/comments/bqd5zw/here_are_some_early_alphaconcept_maps/
I find it quite neat that while Kalimdor goes through several shapes and sizes, Eastern Kingdom and Northrend stays roughly the same across most of the map iterations. At least in the rough shapes.
The Eastern Kingdomsâ geography was mostly locked in by WC2. With Northrend, I get the impression that Metzen had a long time to brainstorm it; we get locations like Dragonblight, Drakâtharon Keep, and Gundrak on the WC3 map, despite them being completely irrelevant to the plot, and long before they appeared in Lands of Mystery and Wrath. So Northrend was a lot less nebulous than Kalimdor, which kept changing a lot until its debut in vanilla WoW. And even then, I get a feeling they kind of phoned in the south.
For a game world that has almost no conventional weather/biome system, it does stand out that they just went âMake everything south in this continent generic desert.â
Cataclysm rectified it a bit by giving us pseudo-Egyptian Uldum, which totally was there all along we pinky swear, then shot itself in the foot by tying the new zone to one of the most despised questlines in the entire game.
Itâs a mess. Iâll cover it in due time.
Yeah absolutely - it makes sense that they stick with WC3âs for Reforged. Thereâs a lot to criticize Reforged over, but not for that imo.
clearly back in wc3 âwinterspringâ was just a warm jungle with a cold water spring somewhere!!
Lintian, I donât know if youâve seen these - theyâre fairly niche pages.

Yes. I donât criticize Reforged for originally portraying Winterspring with the Ashenvale tileset, because it was portrayed that way in classic WC3. I criticize Reforged for updating it in a patch to be more WoW-lore-accurate, and then rolling back that update.
Thankfully, I took plenty of screenshots of the 1.33 version of the mission before they did this.
I have, but thank you nonetheless â theyâll be interesting for others to read!
Hereâs another map, quite different and circular;

Also damn Telarynâs mischief for getting my TL3 taken away. I could have been POWERFUL.
Unâgoro is not a desert. How dare you!
I forgot it existed!
You forgot Jurassic Park?
Well Iâm forgetting you!
On the one hand, âjungle dinosaur craterâ is an incredible zone design
on the other hand, any combination of words is measurably improved by including the word dinosaur
On that note, recently went back and rewatched the entire Jurassic Park franchise.
First one still holds up really well. 2 and 3 were not so great in hindsight, but still fun.
World has itâs moments, but also alot of weird stuff. Extinction was boring. Dominion wasâŚI donât know how to feel about it. Some was good, some was really strange.
