Damn, never knew you played Red Dead Redemption 2!

Also, all elves, calm down or I’m going to HMP and Human Potential all over the place… I’ll do it!

And speaking of Sir Pratchett, I really ought to read some of his works clearly. So far the only exposure I’ve had to not even him directly, but his daugther, were the Overlord-games from Triumph Studios. His daugther Rhianna penned the stories for those, they were great and hilarious.

The Discworld books are fantastic and can be read really in any order. I started with Interesting Times and didn’t feel like I was missing out on any context.

I am in the need for a new gaming mouse, has anybody got suggestions for an ambidextrous/left handed good mouse? They are all expensive AF and I don’t want to put money into one only for it to break in 2 weeks.

An ancient evil awakens.

the orphanage twist in final fantasy 8 is still really dumb

i can’t make it okay in my head

Epic Game Store’s free game this time around is Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very good third-person action game, highly worth your time and especially so at free

Echoed. I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did.

Very fun and stylish.

I can’t for the life of me figure out what the developers were thinking with the 10.0 renown factions.

Not only is the renown grind tedious (I wrote about it before), but the rewards are so paltry and there are so many empty renown levels.

Oh, a new renown level! And my reward is a tiny amount of [Dragon Isles Supplies] that I already accumulate naturally from pretty much any content.

Oh, another renown level! It unlocks the ability to randomly find items that yield a whopping 15 reputation each when turned in. Awesome!

And the only reliable way to grind reputation is just world quests and, if you’re lucky, world events. And I have to wait until Valdrakken Accord level 12 until I get my first questline?

I can’t believe I’m praising Shadowlands, but renown factions were something that expansion did right. There were lots of meaningful cosmetics to unlock: gear, mounts, and titles. You got a campaign chapter every three or so renown levels, and completing it unlocked a piece of gear from the covenant transmog set. Finally, you had a consistent way to get renown by doing two weekly quests each week.

To add insult to injury, only the Valdrakken Accord renown questlines are actually relevant to anything. Particularly the Tyr questline has a large payoff in later patches. Pity it’s just a single campaign chapter. The later questline explains why Ysera is in 10.2 doing nothing until she leaves again, and that’s pretty much it. In hindsight, that entire questline and Ysera’s brief return could be cut entirely.

Speaking of which, why does the Tyr questline, which is part of Valdrakken Accord renown progression, feature more actual discovery than the Dragonscale Expedition, which is the faction that’s supposed to be discovering things? I admittedly haven’t done the Dragonscale Expedition renown questlines yet because I’m still grinding the blasted renown, but from reading Warcraft Wiki, it seems that the questline is basically WACKY INDIANA JONES HIJINKS without much of a payoff. You find some discs that you hand over to be analyzed, and that’s it.

Except that’s not what I expect from an archaeology faction. I expect something like vanilla Uldaman, which gave us the origin of dwarves, or the Storm Peaks storyline and the Ulduar instances in Wrath, which shed light on the titanic keepers, Yogg-Saron, and Algalon at the end of all that dungeon delving. Or the Lorewalkers in Pandaria, with whom you gain reputation by discovering lore objects with interesting tales that flesh out the cultures of the land. What does the Dragonscale Expedition ever do besides climbing mountains and taking pictures of everything in sight? Why doesn’t this expansion’s archaeology faction, in a land that’s practically brimming with ancient mysteries waiting to be discovered, ever actually, you know, discover any?

As a silver lining, I think 10.2 got its renown faction design right. The Dream Wardens renown progression doesn’t feel too fast or too slow. You reliably get a level of renown each week by doing the three weeklies, and you can grind more if you really want to, but you’ll eventually get there anyway. And while some rewards are lazy, there are enough meaningful ones (like mounts and cosmetics) that it doesn’t feel like a pointless chore.

I assume this is largely the case because Blizzard saw the fanbase collectively go ‘uh, what the hell?’ about its whole premise.
