Pet peeves: The return (Part 5)

Im confused, I thought we were talking about humans and not night elves.

7’6 lean and slightly muscular Night elf Sentinel veery suspiciously eyes the 5’6 human infront of them and asks with growing concern: “…Why do you keep asking me to step on you?”

Despite RoP having some issues even if I liked the show overall, I really enjoyed how they portrayed this in a sense between Elrond and Durin.

Putting it in spoilers just in case:

RoP minor spoiler

Elrond and Durin have been friends forever, but when Elrond goes back to see him, Durin is furious with him and treats him coldly, like a stranger with some extra spite and grudge. And they later have a talk about why & Durin reveals why he is so upset.

In Elrond’s mind, it was only a little while ago since they met and they are as close as ever. In Durin’s mind, it has been decades, in which so much happened in his life that Elrond just…wasn’t there for. And Elrond is genuienly taken aback and apologetic about this. They view time so differently.

If they’d just own the real reason they’d earn respect for their audacity. Or get glaive’d. It’s a cointoss and worth it either way, I’m sure. I’m no expert on this mindset.

On a somewhat somber note, I’m starting to experience a low-key version of that in real life and I’m alarmed by it.

My wife recently said, “I’m aging faster than you, please take care of me when I grow old”.

Dear bureau of cosmic irony, when I jokingly drew parallels between us and a certain fictional couple, this was not what I meant

Lintian’s reaction to fawning all over Beren and Luthien and joking about parallels in her own relationship, only for the realization that it’s between a human and an elf:

Yeah, this was really dope. I think Rogue Trader did a stellar job with her character, how she is and feels being surrounded by humans, and how you interact with her.

I’m biased because they’re my main army right now, but a lot of the Drukhari interactions were really cool as well. Shout out to mr funny doctor man, what a bro in his own evil little way

Doing my duolingo and I’m again peeved by how the adverts that play have no universal ‘close ad’ location. Sometimes it’s a small ‘x’ at the top left, sometimes top right, sometimes an entire button at the bottom, sometimes it’s super hidden.

Stuff should be standardised to prevent undesired ad clicks, but I know that’s why it isn’t standardised, so…

You don’t use ad blockers?

I’m not familiar with any adblockers the duolingo app on my phone, so not in that case.

Use 'em on my browsers all the other times though.

Also while I’m complaining about duolingo, it translates “十分” as “sufficient/enough/adequate”…which is correct, that is what it means, but at the same time it also means “ten minutes”, which is the rather more pressing translation to provide me when it’s all about public transport and bus times and whatnot.

Why not just open the website in a mobile browser? I don’t use mobile apps unless absolutely necessary (e.g. banking).

Timeline of night elf lore:

  • Warcraft 3: Night elves are introduced to Warcraft lore as savage badass warriors. The story then immediately has their lands invaded and corrupted and strips them of their immortality, forever ruining night elves.
  • The Frozen Throne: Night elves are shown to have civilians, which ruins night elf lore forever.
  • Vanilla WoW: Not only do they have civilians, but they turn out to compose the majority of their population, taking boring jobs like tailoring, baking and fishing that don’t involve being savage badass warriors. Ugh. Also they now have male priests and female druids, and the main druid organization has let in the filthy tauren of the filthy Horde. Ugh. Also they eat now instead of just drinking moonwell water for sustenance as Warcraft 3 CLEARLY IMPLIED don’t you play your own game devs. I can’t even BEGIN to describe just how RUINED FOREVER vanilla WoW made night elves, turned into generic boring wood elves!
  • Cataclysm: Night elf mages are made playable, forever ruining night elves.
  • MoP: A human proves to be a better tactician than Tyrande, who everyone knows is a wise enough tactician to attack fellow enemies of the Burning Legion without provocation. Also Tyrande ceded Azshara, a land where no night elves lived, to the Horde as part of the peace treaty. UGH! Can we please kill Tyrande and replace her with someone who ACTUALLY CARES about night elven interests?
  • BfA and Shadowlands: [expunged to preserve my own unironic sanity]
  • Dragonflight: So the whole culmination of this story arc ends with a new World Tree that’s not even on Kalimdor? And the new city is more like a village? And the Horde is allowed in? That’s IT, I’m convinced now that Blizzard hates night elf players and has created all this new night elf content for four expansions in a row just to spite them. Night elves are absolutely, utterly, and completely ruined forever. I quit!

(Yes, yes, I exaggerate in places)

PROOF: Nelfposters are [REDACTED] fetishists, not [ALSO REDACTED] fetishists.

…I’m confused.

Okay wow, you’re really sinking so low as to insult a genocided people who have suffered nothing but punch after punch by Blizzard since they were introduced in WC3? All Blizzard ever does it spit on night elf players, killing our immortality, world trees, lore and people all for the benefit of privileged Human Male Paladins like you. I’m so sick of you HMP’s mocking the night elves every time something bad happens to us and quite frankly it’s unacceptable. And yes, us not getting a brewfest stall is a punch to the face. Apparently there are so few of us left that we have to outsource our products to a ‘crack squad’ of void elves, the antithesis of all that is night elf second only to HMP’s. This is why subscribers are tanking and people are flocking to Classic, because of how Blizzard treats the night elves like garbage, especially post cata. It’s not funny, so take your human male paladin privilege and human potential elsewhere. Going through the indignity of following an 18 year old human boy is bad enough as it is without scrubs like you rubbing it in.

You repressed WoD entirely. Just as well. Also Legion. The loss of Ysera doesn’t get a rant?

WoD barely had any night elf involvement at all (except for Cordana, I guess) and Legion actually seemed fine. I don’t remember any real complaints from night elf players at that time, they seemed excited to have the spotlight. It’s everyone else who was complaining about night elf fatigue, like they complained about orc fatigue in WoD.

What do you reckon would happen if a blind person went through the ritual to become a demon hunter? Would it be possible to give Spectral Sight to someone who was born without sight at all?
