Its deeper than that mate, you’re looking at it at surface level.
Sometimes you need to protect players from themselves. And lets be real - You remember the first time you ever played wow - You were in rags, maybe just got your first shoulder item equipped and felt awesome about it. Then you head to Ironforge and see your first fully clad - Grand Marshall warrior with the sword and go… Holy s*** thats what i can look like?
That element of the game is essentially stripped with transmog. Not to mention you can no longer gauge the calibre of a player from sight and will need to either read their hp (assuming you know what is high and can then deduct any extra buffs like power word shield etc - to then ascertain what power level they are gear wise).
The game is a social game and displaying your character with a direct link to what that characters power level is - In my opinion important.
Its nothing to do with my Ego i ahve no idea what type of a low level potshot that was meant to be and im being sincere. Its players with mentalities like yours that have honestly pushed Blizzard into accommodating bad gameplay decisions like Tmog and LFR etc - It seems great at first but in the long run does harm.
I like transmog as a concept but my honest opinion is that in the log term it dilutes a part of wow that people stay for.
But please feel free to take my opinion as a personal slight against you and have another dig at my “ego”, perhaps my age? maybe call me fat or something?
Did you just skip the whole thread and asked a question that plenty people have answered?
With the lack of LFD, which people can think what they want about, do we need another reason for players to exclude others to reserve specific items - this time around for looks? Cant wait to fight over Armageddon with 14 players that think it “looks cool” or see things I could use for my Dual Spec go to players taking everything for Transmog (same type that apperently needed all OS items, but never played anything but their MS). Or just take away a huge part of any RPG, be the sets/items pretty or not.
Here we are again, Classic has been nothing but 3 years of “lets turn it to Retail”.
People really thought they wanted it, but clearly they didnt.
No one wants classic and som is amazing example of it.
@Answer to every troll in this thread;
If you care how I look on arena because you want to “see my gear” then I can already tell none of you went higher than 1500mmr and never will, even if I were to play naked with my partner. Now I will tell you one tip for free, you can see enemy hp values (shocking right?!)
All others that say “this destroyed the game”
ure the reason they just destroyed dungeon leveling (not talking about boosting)
ure the reason they destroyed solo gold farming (good luck getting into gdkp without gold) and also
ure the reason they never added proper lfg tool - instead we normal people have to rely on external addon (lfg bulleting board)
and by the looks of your profiles ure were also the reason they didnt want horde-horde battlegrounds (instead we had to wait 40 min ques in bg “should have picked ally you horde dogs”)
All else arguments are pathetic and not even gonna comment them.
No, I read the thread. I guess I chose not to answer your particular gripe because I don’t think it is a very strong counter-argument. But here goes:
Ninja behaviour has never been accepted. No guild will prioritize transmog before stat upgrades – unless the guild is somehow against the notion of progression. As for reserving items… did this ever happen in retail before personal loot was implemented? I don’t necessarily think reserving items is bad, per se. Let’s say you’re a warrior tank and you want an agility one-hander for looks … maybe not invite a combat rogue that wants it for stats? It is unfair for the combat rogue who wants that item, but for everyone else it means a tank is running that dungeon!
But you will not get mythic chest piece transmog if you do not earn it first. Nobody stripes player from having new gear looks, players themselves choose to apply illusion of some outdated previous tier chest piece they got because (gasp!) they like looks of it more.
And I do get more sence of immersion when person has armor set that fits him/her well. Not running around in mismatching color clown gear combination is what big deal for me.
Plenty of things wrong with SoM, not just feature wise, so taking that as an example of anything really isnt fair or makes any points.
“People don’t want X; Look at SoM”. Meanwhile there’s 1001 things wrongs in SoM and how it was implemented and the one mentioned factor could be, but doesnt have to be, one of them.
People doesn’t seem to want to play a MMORPG, nore anything that Classic was promised to be or even is supposed to be with the new design pillers. One could think they removed Retail for Classic, when infact all of these features short of Talent Trees, were always a click away.
stop with this retail bull***, ppl are not playing it because its simply not fun, the lore is stupid, the environment is also disgusting, and on top of that these pink wings and legendaries everywhere.
Bet your $$ that if wotlk were to release as a next exp. it would end as current expansion, without players after initial rush, wow is just old accept it. People are going to play wotlk because of nostalgia and nothing else
Can You please explain, how a transmog on my caracter would take away that feeling from You? Because, You know, You can just not use transmog if You don’t like it.
Man the guys that say no to everything because it is bad to the game and it was not in wotlk would vote against women’s right for abortion in US but in favor of free guns. That kind of guys.
I am talking about the sense of immersion that the items we obtain in the game are actual items, things.
When I loot a new mace I know that this mace that I have equipped right now is that mace. I can see, I can use it, see it hitting the mobs. It’s a real (digital) thing. When I loot these items I get the same (similar) feeling as I do when I have real things.
I like this feeling of having things in this game.
When you introduce transmog you take away the feeling of having things. Instead we have skins and stats and that doesn’t give the same feeling. It doesn’t matter if anyone uses the transmog or if I can see it or not. We are talking about the feeling of having things and that is ruined by transmog for me.
I agree 100%. Because the people that enjoy Retail currently are a whole other target audiance than that of any MMORPG in general, but Classic in specific. And they seem to be the audiance in Classic aswell as OGs are dropping off.
But Classic wasnt created to replay “Road to Retail” for people who missed it the first time around. Nore to experience old Lore. They have Timewalking and a whole new leveling system where you can chose in which expansion to level in for that.
No I don’t get the sense of smell and taste when playing wow.
I do however get very strong physical adrenaline rushes from time to time. Music can also trigger really strong memories and emotions when visiting locations in the game.
Call me crazy (and I know some will) but I get emotionally affected by this game and the emotions when obtaining things are strong and important. That is why I am against transmog. It destroys that feeling.
Right now things feel real. With transmog it all just feel fake.
I understand what You are saying, but still do not understand how that feeling can be ruined by my transmog.
Ok, and now You ride into a town, and see me with a two handed sword, big, sharp, black/green in color with a glowing enchantment. When i swing it, it deals damage to my opponents.
How does this ruin Your feeling of immersion?
Right now in Classic I would instantly know what item your sword is and what enchant you have. I would know where you got that’s sword or the value. I would recognize your sword as and item in this game.
If we have transmog all I see is a skin Unless it is in fact a cool weapon from the current content it just feel fake and pointless.
Right now in the game we can get a sense of players achievements just by seeing them ride by on their mount. We instantly recognize what items they have and the feelings associated with the effort and places you need to go to obtain them.
