I have worked in Customer service, and in a supermarket. The customer’s rigth even when he claims that frozen chicken arte to be found whith paper and stationery!
I - and more people than me - would be happy to be able to pay for only Classic.
He said “Not much more” and he is rigth as far as those tech savvy people I have consulted says. You do not need many subs to pay for a Classic Era or a TBCC Era servers. Those I asked gave estimates varying from 50 to 120 unique players per server.
I wouldn’t want to work in that place. It would go out of business as they would want to buy that chicken for a Euro and as they are always right you would have to sell it to them at that price.
I think that is an over estimate, I have been on one at the busy time recently on a raid day and counted 27, and not all were 60. I’m sorry but it’s nowhere near the levels some people think it is, they are very optimistic.
Neither did I, I quit very soon after this - but it proves that the customer IS indeed right when this was the policy of one of the big chains (still in business). We’re having set prices, not up to discussion, where I live - luckily!
Unique players are not necessarily simultaneous players. Most Era realms have over 50 online when I play.
Out of curiosity Which server?
It is not that simple, big companies need big money to sustain their business, they wont bother with few thousands of dollars from sub to sustain small version of the game.
It is also bad for their reputation as big developer to host small server with not enuogh players.
They just operate with big numbers in mind.
Sure there is decrease in number of players, summer is in full swing, people go out to the beach, players are waiting for wotlk. Nothing strange about it.
If we players are bound to Blizzard with some kind of lifelong contract we cant terminate, I would agree with you.
Since we are not, our only right is to vote with our wallet.
Who decide what is “Not enough players” If you ask the players of Era and RP servers they do not agree that they are not enough!
Not good for their reputation this is? Much worse is making many small players unhappy with not letting them play on small servers as they like.
Just looking at the SoM players on ironforge.pro are very low worldwide, the majority of realms don’t even have one person scanning them. 4 out of 14 have numbers only, that’s 29%.
And according to IF the numbers for SoM are just falling and falling. But I spoke of Era and RP servers, and their numbers have been staedy with rising tendencies.
Plus I do not like the idea of leaving everythin up to Blizz without protesting, loudly.
I’m sorry but this is precisely what I’m going to say. We play at the Era servers, I play at least 2 hours a day but I dont log, and as far as I know none from my guild bothers either. The only reliable data is log in do a /who and count.
Blizz of course have the data. But I do not like them to decide if we think we’re enough.
TBC also my favourite expansion, but an ERA server would be dead. What exactly could I do? Run my dailies every day for some gold and then log off? That’s the problem with ERA, even 1 server would have too few players and as soon as Blizzard commits to it people would complain they want 1 PVE and 1 PVP and an RP and before you know it you have 3 server clusters each with 40 active players each.
If it was just 1 server, maybe just maybe it could have some value but I suspect even that would barely be able to keep a single raiding guild, no BG’s, no Arena…
I don’t know why people don’t understand this about “ERA”, it already failed once and TBC is less popular than 60 Classic.
All I would personally need to be happy would be 1 PvE and 1 PvP server for each Classic Era (Vanilla, TBC and WotLK). And they could go from there, seeing what kind of demand would exist for RP, RPPvP and foreign language servers.
