Proposal for Revitalizing WoW PVP and Adressing Key Issues

Current State of WoW PvP

World of Warcraft PvP is in a critical state. Many prominent PvP streamers, including former Arena World Championship (AWC) competitors, have abandoned PvP entirely. This exodus reflects a deep-rooted issue within the PvP community. If Blizzard does not take immediate action, PvP risks becoming irrelevant, with potential ripple effects across the entire game.

Proposed Solutions

  1. Block Third-Party Programs

    • How: Implement a robust anti-cheat system that detects and blocks unauthorized third-party software in real-time, similar to Riot’s Vanguard for Valorant.
Blizzard could make it so that if certain codes from third-party programs interfere with their game code, the game freezes. This would not give them access to your computer or files, but simply prevent certain cheat codes from known files from being able to interact with the game.

    • Benefits:
    • Drastically reduces botting and scripting.
    • Levels the playing field for all players.
    • Restores integrity to the competitive environment.

  2. Revamp MMR and Matchmaking System

    • New MMR Reset System: Reset all players to zero MMR and introduce a ranked progression system where players climb through distinct ranks, such as Bronze to Grandmaster. Make it so players only fight others of the same rank, making boosting impossible and allowing new players to only fight those with similar experience, helping them learn.

    • Inspiration: Combine elements of the old Vanilla ranking system (e.g., Scout to High Warlord) with modern tier-based ranks.
    • Benefits:
    • Fresh start for all players, creating excitement, motivation and a new playerbase.
    • Balanced matchmaking, as players earn their ranks through consistent performance.
    • Long-term engagement through rank progression and milestone achievements.

  3. AI-Driven Monitoring for Win-Trading and Cheating

    • How: Use AI to detect:
    • Abnormally fast reaction times (e.g., interrupting within 0.2-0.4 seconds 9/10 times).
    • Repeatedly matching players from the same IP or with identical login patterns in lobbies.
    • Automation patterns indicating non-human behavior.
    • Benefits:
    • Real-time detection and prevention of win-trading and botting.
    • A fairer matchmaking environment for legitimate players.

  4. Enhanced PvP Rewards

    • Token System: Players earn tokens by climbing ranks, which can be exchanged for:
    • Classic PvP gear (High Warlord sets, old Elite transmog).
    • Exclusive new mounts, transmogs, and titles.
    • Benefits:
    • Nostalgia-driven rewards attract veteran players.
    • Unique, rank-specific rewards incentivize players to compete fairly.
    • Long-term progression ensures consistent engagement.

  5. Randomized Lobby Assignment

    • How: Implement random lobby generation after players accept the queue, reducing the potential for pre-arranged win-trading setups.
    • Benefits:
    • Eliminates coordination between boosters and win-traders.
    • Ensures organic, balanced competition.

Why This Matters

These changes would bring back the core values of fair competition, integrity, and rewarding progression that WoW PvP was once known for. Addressing cheating and creating meaningful rewards can rebuild player trust, bring back lapsed PvP enthusiasts, and attract new players. Without decisive action, the decline will continue, potentially affecting both PvP and PvE.

Call to Action

Let’s unite as a community and push for Blizzard to implement these changes. Report cheating, share your experiences, and advocate for a fairer PvP environment. Together, we can make WoW PvP great again.

Feel free to share this on forums or social media platforms if you find these ideas helpful, or add your own suggestions here!

All my friends quit wow pvp because no one likes 3v3 format. There are many team pvp games that are simply better, like lol or dota.

Wow should have stick to mmorpg pvp formats like outdoors, sieges, duels, etc, and not chasing “cybersport”, it just can’t compete.

Arena was a mistake. And shifting meta from 2v2 into 3v3 was even bigger mistake.

I’ve tried that a year ago. Guess how much changed.

i mean, im not aagainst anything in what you wrote

but i think the real problem is elsewhere, i think the core problem of wow pvp, is people struggle alot to have any sort of fun

i believe, it mostly comes down to class design being not that fun, and even more the insane amount of micro ccs, interrupts roots, etc making the game frustrating 90% of the times, idk, its just not fun for most ppl

rewards system and other things could work better, but i think that those are just not the cure, they help, definetly help, but its not the main issue as to, at least to the people i talk to don’t enjoy wow

Anti-cheat system is already in the game. There are no obvious bots since s2 of df.
If someone is not getting banned, that because this “cheat” was developed good to avoid current system. Btw, beside 1 bot ele getting r1 in df s2, talented outlaw and spriest players were banned, at least i got message from blizzard after sometime I reported them

It’s already in the game. Rival, duelist, elite… You want just to rename, or u just dont know these ranks exists because u never played arena? Just asking, no flame

Sounds like an effective manager heard very cool word “AI” and want it to use in their project, when it’s not needed and pointless

Very possible, if u have ping <30ms. U can move where wow server located, probably its Netherlands, and kick in 0.1 every time with 0 ping.

This is bad. In cs and dota there are a lot of unobtainable items which cost thousands of dollars, because u can trade them. In wow u cannot trade old elite mogs, which is what blizzard did good

This is what should be done in s1 df with at least shuffle, beside ugliest tabard and title

The problem with this game is gameplay. Accidently bought sub, because thought some balance changes would make difference, specially mm hunter buffs, but it so pointless.
Every single spec in this game has awful design for pvp, everything is random. Lack of skillfull game mechanics. Near zero chances to outplay someone by ur personal skill.
You even dont need to increase rewards, just remove pve anime gameplay, make something similar to wod/legion, where u press single target skill and it does single target dmg.

And the most important, there were no specs which do x3 or x2 dmg comparing to others. Hello for devos, fury warriors and etc

People are too focused on rewards.

But that highlights:

Because the base PvP meta isn’t fun. They don’t play for fun, only for rewards.

Exactly. In BGs you die so fast that you can never show any kind of skill.

This post ironically feels AI generated, since a lot of the talking points are already in the game

Just remove the ability for botting, and have more people on pvp balance than just the janitor and the unpaid intern who was late for work

This shows you have no clue on what you’re talking about

thats a tldr of what i said man

Consider it a service.

It is AI generated. And it is very boring to read. I think it should be against the forum rules to create a topic by using AI.

What a nonsense. But maybe that’s because you are playing hunter, it definetely lack skillfull mechanics.

After years of playing I adapted to do the things I am not a huge fan of (arenas) and got pretty good at it too however I dont think 3v3 or arena are the problems, infact Im glad that the arena-centrism is barely even still a thing, and pvp shifted.
I find that WoW PvP is really unique and has something to offer that you cannot get anywhere else.
The problem for me and ill put this in a seperate sentence because theres nothing more that I hate about PvP than the crazy amount of buffs and debuffs and how its just impossible to track whats going on sometimes.
Another similar thing is the crazy amount of pets and minor pets. Its just clutter nobody asked for.
Why do I need to know that my targets gets 100% increased reputation with Dornagal for example ? or what Shirt they wear ?
I get it but there MUST be a way to control that , filter if you will.
There must be some sense to Knockbacks and abilities in general. Theres no reason Ursol Vortex to have an invisible DR and share it with Typhoon at the same time you got Mage or Hunter who just for the sake of example are also Draktyr and can use series of knockbacks without them really share a DR.
Like ???
Things need to be proportional from one class to another and make sense.
While I am at it I wonna add another element I dislike:
The way classes are handed out traits and abilities.
I get that its nice to have more comps to play but stop handing out immunities its super obnoxious. Give people a 3 sec 60% dmg reduction wall instead. Nobody should be able to immune- let alone twice (mages and rogues)
Another issue i have is - no rewards from other brackets than 3v3.
Why is that ?

It is absolutely impossible to play on standart ui in pvp. Blizzard was too lazy to improve their ui because they thought players do it for themselves with addons.

But what about new players who dont know and dont want to waste hours to find addons and customize their UI to be able to track anything? They are gonna just leave to another games, that have playable UI from the box.

I am always concerned about the new players, i got 10 under my wing for the past 5 months and i have to constantly aid them with knowledge they simply cannot easily get, especially not by simply playing the game.
Its like selling someone a car but the wheel is mising and you can only press the pedals.
One of them had issues with the dmg numbers poping out incredibly large, i had to search for a macro to adjust it, anothers personal display was dissapearing out of combat- so another macro, for the camera to ignore trees- another macro.
And now add to this addons, weakauras and ill add macros too though players should know how to macro.
Now lets move to the fact that a new player has to get through all of the bullying by Premade groups, LinkedIn simulator for arenas, getting rating shamed everytime they got an opinion against the anty-beginner design.
Not to mention that Leveling was supposed to be a learning experience and leveling being too fast doesnt make stuff better. Even me as a player who plays intently since TBC, leveling teaches me nothing about my new alt. Im always overwhelmed at level 80.
Its like sending a girl who rides ponnies to a horse race.
It would be far far far better if you needed to have 3x max levels in order to have XP to pile up so fast.
Or just design practicing rooms. With bots and simulations- it cannot be that hard.
A safe space to practice your arena macros, mechanics and set your addons in with moving dummies.

This all is really a big reason no one want to consider wow as a pvp game anymore.

Pvp here is not even that bad as everyone saying, but blizzard is just a bad company. And its getting worse under microsoft.

For me personally I I have played WOW since Classic until Cataclism and have now started TWW again after a long break. I only play PVP.
My wife had started with me - but has already lost the joy and has stopped again.
For me personally there are the following reasons why PVP is really no fun anymore and I’m thinking about quitting WOW again.

  1. In unrated PVP (normal BGs) I constantly encounter premades. I can’t get conquest points with twinks or as newbie… what’s the point?
  2. In rated PVP - especially as a healer - it’s toxic. I get insulted and bullied.
  3. There are way too many skills. When did that happen? In the past, you didn’t have 50 different active skills that you could/ had to use.
  4. You also need dozens of addons, which is apparently not enough.
  5. It seems to me that people cheat for all they’re worth. You step out of the arena gate and get stunned directly by the rouge. How does that work?
Kicks of some opponents happen instant. How does that work?

Maybe I took too long a break, but what happened to the game?

Almost in every pvp game community is toxic, but wow is on another level.

Its not even that many, pre legion all classes had a lot of spells.

There is only one key issue and that is:
Game cannot remain in state when we have only 2 viable healers, they alone cannot drive que times, they are root of all bad stuff in this game.
