they knew stuff was wonky with the maw but the thing they didn’t know about was denathrius having the mother of all stockpiles that should have been able to still sustain all realms for a long time

The last major unexplored figure of Warcraft lore is given a voice, and she is revealed to have accidentally sent the victims of a genocide to figurative Hell by accident.
So Elune is, despite being relatively distant and non-interventionist outside of a few exceptions, is a completely useless deity in arguably the most important intervention she does make. Which was to turn the contents of a city into anima soup.
Remember the old discussions about how Elune shouldn’t be fleshed out because they’d do as bad a job of handling that as they did everything else? Good times.
My take on this is that Elune didn’t send souls specifically to Ardenweald. The Winter Queen’s words make it seem like not just she called out for help across the cosmos. So sending souls to the Arbiter seems like to more sensible thing to do, because it’d help all realms, rather than just one. Not every night elf necessarily goes to Ardenweald, after all.

Again it’s still kind of weird. Far from me to deny us a reason (Actually I would like that, deny us a reason to go) to go to the Slands, but that these Covenants seems to be well… NPCs waiting on the Maw-walker to guide them into figuring out what’s the Anima drought all about, why isn’t the Arbiter doing her job (especially when the Kyrian are depositing souls to her constantly!) is just awful writing.
It’s even weirder when this supposed drought is Denathrius’s doing, I mean sure, the Venthyr are so great at it that they can have huge reserves of it and extract it for a long time from a few select individuals (Dem Ol’ reliables.) but it’s not like he was distributing that to the other covenants before the drought as far as I’m aware.
I know I’m definitely overthinking this, but if you keep poking holes, not even swiss cheese feels that hollow.
Also while I’m at it, and this applies to the rest of Shadowlands as a whole, but you find out that the Arbiter is broken literally 5 minutes into the Shadowlands.
You turn up at Oribos, one of the dudes is like “woah who’re you! Hey, wanna see our Arbiter? She’s broken!” and then you go see the Arbiter and he tells you that every soul is getting maw’d.
So like why didn’t the Winter Queen etc. not know that
did they not think to check with the Arbiter when they suddenly stopped getting souls? They’ve apparently got holotransmitters up to her platform if a later cinematic is any indication.

Oh yeah, there is no doubt about the fact that the story of the Shadowlands expansion is quite bad overall.

imagine having your entire race evacuate to darnassus meaning all the powerful druids and mages and priestesses are there only have your tree get nuked in 0.1 second by unexplained intercontinental catapults
and at no point did the mages think of ‘hey i can conjure ice! extinguish!’ or druids ‘hey i can wind! deflect the ammunition!’ or priestesses with moonlight also extinguish everything
why is everything dumb anyway
blizzard is force-canoning everyone to be dumb so their dumb storytelling can be accurate smh

And she prolly never will be fixed. Someone will shout “The Shadowlands is FREEEEE!” because every soul can now cubicle crawl their way into any realm as they want, whenever they want.

Actually the portals and those aether wyrm flying thiniges were shut down, by the Caretakers - or whats their name - to conserve the precious little anima they have and it was a HUGE deal, they reopened the gates/portals slowly one by one, but they had to, so during the story we could have uncover whats happened
They were NOT happy about it tho and it was basically an all-in on their part, last ditch effort to find answers/solution
At first Oribos was a ghost town, then as the story progressed and the gates remained open the deniznes started to apear
So the Winter Queen not knowing whats happened is… surprisingly logical, no one knew what was the cause of the anima draught, most of them belived its natural ebb and flow and the Caretakers remained silent not to cause panic and shut down the gates, sealing the realms basically
In Bastion the blue guy was god to honest surprised the gate opened and someone finally apeared
I guess not even the Kyrian knew whats happnes the souls after delivery of oribos… that was discovered later during the bastion story
While they do have holopads to call each other… every leader was… egoisitcal self centered a-hole, focusin only her/his realm so not surprised either they forgot to call each other
They are “family”… and god I’m glad I’m not in a day-to-day contact with MY family…
now now, we can’t have any characters other than anduin, anduin, anduin, and anduin, now can we?
